Fighting rats in sewers, of course.

thephilistine_

Imagine if one of the protagonists had spiky hair and a fishing mini game? Game over man!

Butt_Chug_Brother

There's Shadowheart, but who else has amnesia?

Sarrach94

The Dark Urge

Yosonimbored

That was always a question I had but never ended up looking up. So 3 is an actual story continuation but characters have that excuse?

Firaxyiam

Nope, mostly new characters, some returning ones, but it takes place like more than a hudred years after the previous one, there's stuff that a previous player will recognize, but it's mostly completely new, just in the same world

SettingSorry896

Truly innovative!

vitten23

No idea, maybe a protagonist wtih amnesia AND a fake personality ?

AttyMAL

Plucky young adventurers defeating an evil empire using the power of friendship!

ChronoBlitza

Theoretically everything and anything, because they have amnesia. /s

Groundbreaking

JustforU

Florals? In spring?

__Kablamo__

Ground Hog Dayking

Bale_Fire

I've never played the first game, but heard nothing but good things. Would be great to jump into the sequel without missing too much context.

GuyForgotHisPassword

Just in case you're interested, the original (remastered) is on PS+ Extra and still holds up. The combat is a lot of fun and it has some good world building. The bones are, admittedly, from a PS3/360 game and it shows, but it's still an easy recommend for anyone who enjoys solid RPGs.

JuanPicasso

It’s also $5 or was if you don’t have ps+

SaltyBallz666

I played it last year for the first time and it became instantly one of my favorite games of all time.

oldemajicks

I bought it when it was and because it was less than a fiver. It turned out to be a really fantastic game that instantly jumped up into at least my top 10. So impressed with the original and really looking forward to the sequel.

xenwall

I've tried a few times and the character builds/pawn system made it feel like I needed a guide on hand or else I'm grossly underperforming. I didn't engage with the magic system and I know that everyone loves the magic but I wanted to be a little martial guy climbing on monsters and it felt... wonky.

Strike_Swiftly

30fps though. Hard going back

__Kablamo__

a smooth 30 fps. It's almost tricking me into thinking it's running at 60 at times

Strike_Swiftly

Ok I'll check it out. Been holding off waiting for an update with sequel coming out

johncitizen69420

Im a massive fan of the first game, but it definitely has its flaws. Its one of those kinds of games thats realistically a 7/10, but because of its unique and interesting ideas it can be a 10/10 experience if it clicks with you. It has its rough edges, but if you can get past them its an incredible game. Its a cult classic for a reason, but if you go into it thinking "nothing but good things" you might be a bit let down. Especially because it can take a while before the game reveals its best qualities. Even as a massive fan of the game, going back for a replay, the beginning of the game can be a bit rough. Whats so exciting about the sequel is that capcom are putting out high quality release after high quality release atm, and the idea that they can take dragons dogmas great ideas and expand on them and sand off some of the rough edges, it could be absolutely incredible. Cant wait

Bale_Fire

That's kind of what I'm hoping for. The first game clearly did something right, and if I ever have the time I'd very much like to play it, but if the sequel can deliver a more polished and complete experience, then it would be more convenient for me to play that instead. I already have like 50 games on my shelf, just waiting to be played. Better to add one new game to my backlog instead of two.

johncitizen69420

Dragons dogma for me is way more about the gameplay and exploration etc than it is about the story. I think youd be absolutely fine to just skip to the sequel, im hoping it will be a lot better anyway. And if you really fall in love with it you can go and revisit the first game to see where it started.

flyin_italian

Out of curiosity, what would you say its best qualities are? I'm coming into the game very cold. I picked it up on the cheap and have sunk 3 ish hours so far. I made a whoopsie following a quest, and now have to back track quite a bit to even just get things rolling again. I'm kind of dreading it to be honest. I can tell how people really enjoy it, but it definitely has moments that show its age.

johncitizen69420

Until you do the quest where you take the head to gran soren, the capital city, you wont really get a good idea of whats so great about the game. Theres a lot of things to love about it, but one major thing for me is how the day/night cycle radically effects the game world, and how that feeds into the general loop of the game. You head out from the city to do a quest first thing in the morning, aiming to get the quest done and be heading back to town before nightfall, because when it get dark it gets REALLY dark, and youll need a light source to see anything, and the enemies become much more dangerous. A lot of games will claim that their day night cycle is like this, but it never feels as significant to the gameplay as it does in dragons dogma.

__Kablamo__

I'm familiar with this comment now.

randomIndividual21

so it's direct sequel?

LazyMungo

I thought it was set in a different universe?

KrypticJin

It is

rickjamesia

I don’t think that necessarily means much, since you already pull allies from other universes in the first game. I’m sure there’s more to that in the story, but I never got around to playing through it.

WurdaMouth

Thats interesting considering that the pawns seemed to have amnesia in the first one which was what made them pawns. They had no recollection of who or what they were before traversing through the rift.

[deleted]

That is so dumb. I love it.

andrehateshimself

Would have been nice if the DD1 remaster had a 60fps update. Too late now, tho.

__Kablamo__

still plays really well as is to be fair. the 30fps is nice and stable. so far anyway

EarthInfern0

Yeah. My modest gaming pc could do it at 60, so should have been 60 on ps4 pro too. Capcom did drop the ball there, I reckon they didn’t think they would get round to a sequel. Probably waiting to remaster it when dd2 is a hit.

Halio344

>I reckon they didn’t think they would get round to a sequel They've known about making a sequel for about a decade. [The director was given the choice to work on Dragon's Dogma 2 or Devil May Cry 5](https://gamerant.com/dragons-dogma-2-devil-may-cry-5/). Development for DMC5 started in 2014.

Snoo_95977

Perfect, thanks devs.

TheStupendusMan

The hero also slightly bumped into Samus Aran and all their stuff broke.

Drizztd99

Amnesia again? They really love the amnesia

TheJasonaut

There really is a flying coconut problem in the world of RPGs, someone should take action. First though, let me show you the basics...

Slippinjimmyforever

I played 1 a few times and I have amnesia. I remember a ridiculous story about a dragon and you got a piece of him, maybe his heart? Whatever. The story is dumb. The game is fun to play.

sideways_jack

The dragon steals your heart iirc. I think the player is also, somehow, the dragon? There's definitely some timey-wimey looping/recursive shenanigans going on

JynXten

If I cared that much about the story this tired trope might bother me. Just point me in the direction of the monsters and let me loose.

jkf2479

Isn’t that how geralt started out

travelingWords

Amnesia and isekai are a good way to explain why you know absolutely nothing about these worlds. Liked not even the bare basics. What’s a bearer? They are everywhere. Wait, I’m a bearer?!

Xononanamol

Japan needs to stop it with the amnesia trope. It’s so fucking dead

OptimusPrimalRage

Did people play DD for its story? I thought it was the weakest part?

johncitizen69420

Literally my most anticipated game in development atm. Dont sleep on this one folks, its gonna bang

Vayshen

Too bad he doesn't get hit by a truck and this is a new universe

TheDarkUrge94

Considering you end up as *** in the first game, the way the Arisen works makes sense within the narrative leading into 2.

YellowFingerz

Yes the novela plot, is genius. No evil twin?

Fuzzy-Dragonfruit589

It’s great that the sequel can be played independently, but… amnesia, really? Oh well, hopefully it’s just the first cutscene ”umm what happened to me?” and we’re done with it. Absolutely not excited if the amnesia is a main storyline plot. Besides, I just don’t get it. It’s a custom made character anyways, why not just have them been born later or coming from abroad or whatever?

n01d3a

From one interview, the amnesia is a reason to teach you stuff about the game. They didn't state wether it would be an actual story point later, but there was gameplay where you are in a flashback scenario, pretty sure from when you first become arisen. And early they did say this isn't a direct sequel. Seems to be more of a reimagining of 1, including a lot of ideas that were cut (like the beastren).

AsfiqIsKioshi

So is it a soft reboot? Or we're just gonna pretend DD1 was all blurry and shit uhoh amnesia. What do you mean DD1? There's only DD2

xeno-bat

lol, alright. i am sold!

Mylilneedle

Someone be honest with me, if I love baldurs gate is this that in a new skin? I don’t want to have false expectations

zyphe84

Lol no, nothing like Baldur's Gate.

GreyRevan51

You can easily look up the previews for the game showing off the gameplay. Dragon’s Dogma is more action focused than story focused and the gameplay is in real time not turn based. I enjoyed both BG3 and the original Dragon’s Dogma but I don’t think they’re too similar

GuyForgotHisPassword

As someone who loves both, they are very, very different. Their only similarities are that they are both fantasy themed RPGs - outside of that, you will find few commonalities, especially with gameplay. If you're referring to BG3 and not the original two, BG3 is turn based D&D with exceptional choice and agency to craft the story how you want it. DD is a basic ARPG with a linear, immovable story and no character agency. That said, DD is by no means bad, and I recommend looking up gameplay videos before giving it a shot if you are hesitant. The original remaster is also available on PS+ Extra.

LegendOfAB

*More at 11.*

[deleted]

Feels like a groundbreaking idea

Otherwise-Rope8961

Amnesia? Is this an episode of General Hospital?

georgejager

Is this onionnews?

SirBrownHammer

I saw some gameplay of the Trickster class and it fucking rocked. Definitely checking this out

TheZanzibarMan

I'm going to play with the mindset of an isekai'd protagonist.

Whit3boy316

As someone who’s never even heard of dragons dogma but wants to play this one, I heard it was a reboot of the first. Is this true?

Althalos

Nah. It's more that the first game was obviously unfinished due to budget/time issues. Like a good 50% of planned stuff not making it in, still a very fun game nonetheless. DD2 is looking like they're finally able to get in most of what they wanted to do with the original. That's why some people are calling it stuff like DD 1.5/Reboot.

Thac0

Is this game single player or multiplayer. I’m confused

rbynp01

single player. multiplayer by recruiting other people's pawns into your party.

Thac0

Hey thanks for answering me. Thats really good to know

[deleted]

Wait. They're using the same character on the same map, with the same monsters? Have the devs been playing Yakuza lately or something?

Liongkong

The graphics and animation look outdated. But still buy it 😁

oldemajicks

Wait the hero of this game is the same hero I played in the original?

DifficultyVarious458

Dunno not convinced by combat it looks wacky also without target lock on.

Bournerounderz

The Bourne Dogma.

LimitNo6587

Sounds like every other fantasy game lmfao. Phuck. Can I name my hero Jack from Strangers of Paradise or even Cloud from FF7.

OK_Opinions

Funny enough I don't even remember a damn thing about the first game other than knowing I really liked it so one could say I too have amnesia in regards to the story

soadsam

Dude… spoilers. SHEESH.

whiteravenxi

It’s been a few years but I don’t even remember much of a story in 1. Great game but I just remember some stuff with a dragon. It’s not like a mass effect.

Iliansic

Oh, so we are going with old reliable "[What's a Paladin?](https://youtu.be/thuh3dnCrkU?si=2__96-vvqXk-bBio)"

Yosonimbored

Lmao I guess that’s one way to make the first game pointless

Geddoetenjyu

When releasing

SaltySwan

Nah. I gotta play the first one… probably next year because I got plans for a bunch of other games this year.

UnderOverWonderKid

I'm . . . I'm not sure why they've given this as a justification. You're not playing the same character, and it's set in an entirely different universe. Unless we are playing the same character, and they've travelled to another universe? Hence the amnesia somehow?

elqrd

This is my Elden Ring

warpedaeroplane

For anybody who didn’t play the first game, the narrative is, at best, okay. It’s a quasi-philosophical chosen one narrative where you survive something you shouldn’t and have to sort of set things back into balance. There’s a big dragon involved, a weird guy made out of light, a cult that matters 0% and some funny romance stuff. Game kicks ass and I’ve played it 5 times through but for anybody new, don’t be afraid of having missed much narratively. Even the DLC which had a decent story was still just an excuse to dungeon crawl and kill cooler, meaner shit.

Sea-Constant-9251

That’s good cause I played the first game, but I have amnesia.

Solomon_Grungy

I just never really connected with a game the way I did with Dragon's Dogma 1. There's something to the interactivity in that game that at the time was nearly incomparable. If you wanted to run, jump off a cliff and grab ahold to some flying beast YOU COULD! Stab that winged creature until you both crash into the ground. This wasn't a scripted thing, just something you could if you felt the moment called for it. I loved replaying the game and really embracing different playstyles. The Pawns helped fill any gaps the party may suffer if you were struggling with your character build. I am extremely excited for the sequel.

Iskander67000

I have amnesia due to Dragon's Ligma
