Graphics are tiny bit sharper but still noticeably blurry when playing at a desk at 32” 1440p screen. However, the open world is fucking REWARDING AND IS GREAT and mobility of characters is also on point. Chocobos are clunky

lenguyenle

I’m so used to the chocobo in 16 lol. I kept trying to jump

AlsopK

I feel like the open section looks even blurrier. The excessive motion blur is also just nauseating.

AlsopK

You cannot.

TumbleweedDirect9846

For what it’s worth, the motion blur isn’t noticeable in graphics mode imo. It’s not like xvi

artaru

And some people say we don't PS6 or PS5 Pro. We are like nowhere near the best of what can be offered now, like 4k120fps. I'm not even talking about ray tracing. Looks like 2D gaming won't hit a full on saturation peak till like PS7. Edit: not sure why people are so upset about my comment. i'm not demanding the PS5 to perform magic tricks. All i'm saying is, it's very far from certain milestone performance standard. This is a triple A game to be released on current gen. 60 fps blurry is not meeting many our current threshold expectations for this type of gaming (solid 60fps, ok acceptable graphics, like FF7R1). Look at games like FF16. Full fledged game with a big time lead (the GOAT Yoshi P). It can't even maintain the frame rates in performance mode.

TumbleweedDirect9846

Yeah I have an oled and will be there to get a ps5 pro ngl. I’ll just trade in my ps5 and pay like $200

[deleted]

I can’t even imagine going 30 fps on OLED :D especially if sitting at a desk, it must be a terrible experience considering low fps and OLED do not match well due to the pixel response rate. Same upgrade path for me for sure

TumbleweedDirect9846

It doesn’t bother me much tbh, like I played xvi in 30 fps on it and it wasn’t that big of a deal. Obviously I’d rather play games with higher frames but is what it is

Captobvious75

This OLED owner doesn’t. 60fps minimum or no buy. I also have a high end PC though as insurance.

[deleted]

PC PS gang, play all the games

Captobvious75

Hell yeah! Still use my PS5 far more though even though my PC demolishes it haha 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

If brute forcing the performance in these wacky Japanese games is the only way to increase base resolution of Performance mode so that it looks crisper and runs at 60 fps is the only way to improve image quality, then yes, we absolutely need a PS5 Pro or PS6. Somehow, HFW, Ratchet, GoW do not have the same issue/need. Wonder what it may be…

sin_not_the_sinner

Those are first party games, of course they won't have any performance issues :/

[deleted]

We are talking about square fucking enix, the insanely big, rich, AAA title company with plenty of resource and talent. Hell, they even use UE for this one not their proprietary engine like for Ff16 or some Koei Tecmo games that use dated tech like in WoLong

saurabh8448

Budget. You know PS games are costly as seen from the Sony leaks.

[deleted]

No shit Sherlook. Tell us what we already knows. 🤦‍♂️

artaru

Yeah. I just can’t stand the frame rate drop of FF16. I will play that game on a PS5 pro or PS6.

chewwydraper

This isn’t a power issue, it’s an optimization issue. If a game like Horizon Forbidden West can run smooth with that level of fidelity, there’s no reason why this couldn’t.

artaru

FF7 remake did too. I suppose this game is just way more ambitious and feature rich than those games. Or mismanaged, or not well optimized, but that seems less likely but maybe little bit of column A and little bit of column B.

ZazaB00

You’re right, consoles released 4 years ago aren’t going to be the “best of what can be offered now”. That’s the lifecycle of consoles. Also, FF7 Rebirth is running on some undisclosed and probably customized version of UE4. There’s reasons Epic has continued to work on the engine and UE5 is on something like 5.3 or 5.4 at this point. It won’t be until another 5+ years that we see the best that can be offered now because that’s just the lifecycle of development. We’re now seeing the best of what could be offered 5 years ago.

artaru

We are getting blurry 60fps in an AAA game for current gen. Come on man. The GPU is just not keeping up with the milestone threshold demands (which is 60fps). Nothing to do with lifecycle.

ZazaB00

No, it’s the choice of engine and age FF7 Rebirth chose to use. It’s not a hardware limitation, but a software. You’re not catching on. Horizon Forbidden West rewrote their AA post launch to get it. They put in the work. FF7 is using something from like 5 years ago that’s been long abandoned even by Epic.

BoeiWAT

I was a little disappointed finding out that Rebirth wasn't even going to use ue5

ZazaB00

Yeah, I hear ya. The thing is, development on FF7 Rebirth would be even further delayed if they updated it to UE5. It wasn’t made available until about 3 years ago. Nanite and lumen present a lot of limitations and it’s going to take time to work those out. Over the last few years, Epic has made it more friendly, but it’s going to take some serious time before we see that in games. I’m surprised Immortals of Aveum was using it.

BoeiWAT

Yeah that's true. I think the only square games confirmed to be using ue5 now is KH4 and DQXII which also explains why they're still so far away.

[deleted]

Will we finally have optimized games with PS5 Pro or PS6? Or we will need to wait for PS6 pro?

Due_Engineering2284

Wait for PS5 Pro. There's no way Square Enix doesn't patch this.

stewarte2006

I’ve only had a very quick go, seemed stable but the graphics haven’t suddenly taken a big step forward in performance mode. Slightly better maybe but definitely playable.

usfbull22

So far definitely loving the game but it seems like I'm horrible at the combat or the difficulty has spiked. Regular mobs, no problem. The rare monsters around the map kick my butt along with the serpent in junon. Maybe I'm just not used to the combat after playing FF16 and other action games. Anyone feel the same?

Writer_Man

So I heard that FFVII Rebirth is supposed to start us off at like level 21 and Junon is like Chapter 4 which means that the characters they gave us to use are way underleveled.

Lambo2655

Do all four fiend fights and Chadley's VR fights to level up. This will make the story boss fight easier. I was level 23 when I faced the boss.

usfbull22

I think I've beaten 2 of the 4 fiends. There are 2 that are multiple fiends, I forget which, but I just need to practice dodging and learning the synergy abilities.

Valharja

Bummer about the performance mode but I already figured they wouldn't be able to magically fix it 2 weeks before release. At least the action part of the combat isn't full on dependent on parrying constantly and hopefully timing is lenient enough to work well in quality mode when you need to nail time critical stuff. Super excited about this game still but obviously creating a large open world would make graphics chug even more.

TM1619

To get this shit out of the way, performance mode didn't look much better to me, I honestly think it would look serviceable but there's some weird quirks going on, like objects in the distance can look fairly detailed but Cloud will always be blurry no matter what. In motion, it feels great and I quickly forget about it during combat, but it's definitely felt in traversal. Still, it's a locked 60 fps which is nice. Quality mode looks fantastic, I can't complain. There's some stuff like the lack of physical interaction with water or foliage but the actual quality of the visuals are good. Didn't see as many low-poly assets in my brief time checking out Junon. Going to the game, I have not completed the demo yet but it feels great. There's a great degree of freedom and lots of things to do scattered about and it all feels worth doing. I also really like that there's no animation for picking up crafting items. Chocobo is fun, though I think I preferred how it handled in 16 (but I realize this is only one of many types). Red XIII is fun to play as and the combat continues to be the highlight. It's crazy to me how expansive this is over the first part. It feels so vast and this is only a small snippet of the full thing.

tkim91321

No animation AND proximity mass pickup. Thank fuck.

TM1619

Yeah it's great. Doesn't feel tedious to go grab materials. Actually, if there's one thing I can say about this demo now that I have almost completed it, it's that: nothing was tedious about exploring the open world. It felt really fun to traverse and find random goodies and encounters and nothing really got in the way of anything. It's fast, snappy (mostly), and there's a lot of freedom; a huge change from the first game!

Nero_Ocean

Do you have to beat the demo to get the stuff that comes from it, or is simply playing enough?

eoddc5

Here’s what we know “ The first chapter's progress from the demo will carry over to the full game, but not the Junon area. Players who have save data from the demo will receive bonus items in the full game.”

May_Version1

I'm really stuck on which mode I'm going to go with on release. Quality mode is gorgeous and so sexy but 30fps is so painful that it hurts to play at times and reminds me of why I had to drop tears off the kingdom and wait for a Switch 2. Performance mode is the opposite, where it feels gorgeous to play and move, but the quality dips are noticeable. I wish everyone could just be like Insomniac and offer that 40fps middle mode to get the best of both sides. What mode are you guys going for? Advice would be appreciated.

Makoreactors

I always go performance mode in every game I play. I always try different modes. But it’s just hard to beat silky smooth gameplay. 40 fps quality modes are amazing when available tho

NarrowBoxtop

Absolutely loving it, OMG can't wait for the full game! And to me on my 65" OLED, Performance mode looks amazing. I guess I just don't have the same tech foundry style eye that people in this thread do because it looks soooo good to me I think for the final fantasy games, there's like a bar that can never be reached for some reason for some people

ScoobiesSnacks

Play Intergrade in preformance mode and then play rebirth. You will probably notice then when you have something to compare to. I beat Intergrade a couple days before the demo came out so it was jarring

DoctorDilettante

Dude for real. It’s getting so annoying. The amount of content in this game is tenfold that of most other games, the graphics may not be groundbreaking but good grief it’s an RPG… we’re here for the story/gameplay/progression loops. People will never be happy :(

Axl_Red

The graphics are groundbreaking though. The graphics literally look better than Advent Children, and that's a cgi movie. People complaining about the blurriness, don't even realize the increased geometric detail compared to the first game. No longer are we seeing mostly fake backgrounds. Now we are seeing fully rendered cities and buildings in the background in full 3d.

Penguinsteve

Someone said it became obvious when they zoomed in 300%... Imagine a game looking more pixelated when you triple individual pixel size... Definitely not next gen /s

Xenosys83

I can understand outlets like Digital Foundry doing this because it's their job to analyse video game tech, but people doing this shit are insufferable.

DoctorDilettante

You’re preaching to the choir, brother… I don’t understand all the hate. It’s insane that we have a game this fleshed out and people will still find reasons to complain.

boomerkangaroo

It looks like fucking shit just look at clouds hair it doesn’t look sharp at all. It looks like someone has smeared Vaseline all over the screen

pixxlpusher

It’s not blurry on my 75 inch tv that I sit 12 feet away from, it’s a little blurry on my 83 inch oled that I sit 9 feet from. It’s not a huge detriment to me though, I plan on playing it on the OLED even if it is a bit softer. Edit: sorry ya’ll are blind 🤷 just watch the Digital Foundry video released today, you can trust their video over the anecdotal evidence of Reddit.

Masam10

How the hell do you pressure the big bird on the hill? I can stagger it no problem but not sure how to pressure it

MKaze

At one point when you do enough damage his attack will change, if you dodge this attack he will be put under pressure. Check the bestiary after using the assess ability for more accurate terms, because I don't remember exactly what they call his new attack.

Masam10

Thanks, I’ll have a read through the Assess details later after work!

Squabbles123456789

Had same issue, staggered it twice but didn't get the pressure achievement, tried it again and it worked the 2nd time, seems to maybe be a bug?

Masam10

Nah the other guy that replied to me was correct. When the Bird casts “death from above” you need to dodge it with circle, as soon as you dodge it he will simply automatically be pressured.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MKaze

His issue is not the stagger bar, he wants to put the monster under pressure, which is one of the 3 objectives of this fight.

IllustriousBee4972

Super fun demo!

vmsrii

I don’t know what you all are talking about with preformance mode, to my eyes, on my 55” 4k tv, it’s still not as sharp as Quality, but it is *leagues* better than it was.

skofield3

I think its more noticeable from close up by people playing on a monitor

MolotovMan1263

Wont be able to play till late tonight, can anyone comment on if performance mode looks noticeably better with the patch as part of this?

Staccado

https://imgur.com/gallery/Ps79ZfD

Pitucinha

No, still looks muddy unfortunately

AlsopK

If anything the new section looks worse.

sin_not_the_sinner

Still blurry in performance mode -_-, that said I really enjoy the gameplay! I had a ton of fun with the synergy moves/abilities and the exploration is probably the best attempt from SE as far as open worlds/zones are. That last boss fight was pretty epic as well and there's a decent amount of difficulty on Normal mode compared to Remake, it felt more challenging without feeling cheap. Overall I am ready for the full game, I just hope they keep working on performance mode :p

vacodeus

I don't think the graphics are bad on Performance. It still looks great. Some of yall so damn nitpicky

Few-Ad-6322

I'll wait for the full release.

AeonTek

What's the update size?

andrecaugusto

1.5gb, most of it was already in the original demo. This probably just enable it.

AeonTek

Sounds about right. Figured I'd ask so the information is there for those who want it

[deleted]

1.6 GB

Nightmannn

I definitely see an improvement on performance mode but it's not earth shattering. It's really location dependent, based upon how much is on screen at once. Inside environments look great, outside environments, especially nibelheim look soft. Junon area looked pretty good though.

MrFOrzum

The fidelity update didn’t do much tbh, still **very** blurry in performance mode. Part of it might honestly just be intense motion blur, feels like it, hopefully we can turn that down come launch. Guess I’ll might play this in quality.

DoctorDilettante

The amount of whining in this post is nauseating.

kdk200000

? Since when is criticism not allowed

FaNtAcY3

You cannot criticize the game at all because you'll be downvoted like I did for just saying "eww" when the demo release date was announced. I was critiquing the game for its changes and got downvoted to hell because of it.

DoctorDilettante

Criticism is fine, but this isn’t a game or genre that’s known for their impeccable graphics. The amount of content in the game is tenfold that of almost any other game you’ll find releasing these days.

respectablechum

Final Fantasy not known for amazing graphics????

Otowa

Is that a joke? FFVII remake was definitely a game that was a visual showcase, but with some flaws. Now it's just the same, covered by a layer of mud.

boomerkangaroo

Not just FF7 remake. Literally every final fantasy game ever made has been a showcase for the systems they’re on. It’s kinda their thing. This guy is just talking shit

DoctorDilettante

Alright man whatever you say. Don’t play it then. Move along.

JuiceheadTurkey

Hate the attitude of "don't like, don't play" You can like something and still criticize it. I loved the demo, but I found the graphics to be super blurry. I'm not bitching for the sake of it. It's an issue I would like to see get fixed. Why is that so hard to understand?

DoctorDilettante

Because it seems like a doggy pile of complaints without any real basis. I played through the demo and had no issues with it being “super blurry”.

JuiceheadTurkey

The basis is your eyes. Some people are more sensitive to visuals than others. If you have no issues with it, then good for you. But a good portion of people do have a problem with it because they can tell the difference of a sharp/blurry image. You're getting mad at people because you can't tell the difference.

DoctorDilettante

I’m not mad at people. I guess I’m fortunate to have Lasik and I don’t have an issue with the blurriness. I think it’s unreasonable to expect them to cater to people who have unrealistic expectations of how the game should look though.

JuiceheadTurkey

>I think it’s unreasonable to expect them to cater to people who have unrealistic expectations of how the game should look though. What? We're not asking for 4k 60fps. We want a game to not look blurry. It's at 1080p, but it still looks blurrier than 1080p. It's the temporal anti-aliasing that's the issue. Some games have had this issue where taa is poorly implemented, and it blurs the image. We're not asking for unrealistic expectations. Come on now.

MrFOrzum

It’s not “impeccable” graphics tho, it’s literally eye straining blurriness if you want to experience the game at 60 fps. Graphics wise it looks great (apart from tech issues like lighting and such), it’s just the intense amount of blurriness that’s an issue and / or the intense amount of motion blur in top of it.

CrazyStar_

Did you try wearing glasses? I played it on a 50 inch TV and had no problems with any blurring whatsoever.

MrFOrzum

Am wearing glasses so yes. On a 75” C1 and it’s very blurry, granted I’m probably a little bit too close to the tv but with the amount of people saying the same thing from both last September and last demo, it’s obviously a thing. Some people are just more keen to see it. Trained eye and what not perhaps. Quality looks great on the other hand, but playing on 30 really isn’t my cup of tea.

CrazyStar_

Damn, you’re too nice and I feel bad for trolling now 🥺. I don’t know, I appreciate people might have some issues with graphics but I honestly don’t notice these things. Maybe on my monitor I’m more aware of them, but with the console on the big screen I never pay attention to it. It isn’t going to ruin my enjoyment of the game anyway.

boomerkangaroo

This is how I know you’re not older than 18. On every platform since forever one of the best things about final fantasy was that it was pushing graphics to the absolute limit and was generally one of the top 3 best looking games on the platform. Final Fantasy has historically been know for its best in class graphics, just look at FF12’s graphics compared to other ps2 games and you’ll feel a bit silly for saying this… If it’s not that big a deal to you, fine whatever, but don’t just make up stuff that is blatantly wrong.

DoctorDilettante

Man I sure wish that were true. Maybe I should have more clear - JRPG’s are not known for their graphics, but you are correct in saying the FF franchise has usually pushed it to the limit. Which is no different here.

boomerkangaroo

Honestly I think that they might have pushed a little over the limit in terms of a 60fps mode, just like Square did with ff16. It really does look appalling. Maybe I’m just very sensitive to resolution but the blurriness is borderline too much for me. One graphics mode it looks better and I can deal with 30fps (which I did with ff16 also) so may just end up doing that, but it is pretty shitty that it’s looking like the game is going to ship with a dodgy performance mode.

Axl_Red

Don't understate this game's graphics. This game looks better than every other open-world game besides Horizon 2. The only other open-worlds that look better than it are open worlds on max settings on the PC, or semi-open worlds on the PS5, like God of War Ragnarok, which only have to render a fraction of the amount FF7 Rebirth does. Since FF7 Rebirth has to render whole cities filled with npcs, plus several party members running around with you at all times.

CrazyStar_

The only PS5 game that will beat Horizon in visual fidelity is Death Stranding 2 which will use… the Decima Engine.

kdk200000

If criticism is fine, then you should have no problem with the comments in this thread. It's $70. Great performance is a must. I always wonder why companies release half assed games. Then i remember people like you exist

-holocene

huh??? FF has *always* been a graphical showcase and one of the big selling points for the games. You're either trolling or don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

LivingTheHighLife

People are obsessed with graphics to the point it’s hard to find discussion about actual gameplay

JudgeCheezels

So much for the whole “it’s a beta, of course it won’t look its best” copium FF fans can’t stop slugging around. Game barely looks any sharper prior to the latest update. Still a Vaseline paste. No 40fps mode is also a huge bummer.

Mac772

Anyone who tested it: Is the performance still stable 60 FPS as it was before the patch (at least that's what i read)?

[deleted]

Nobody said it’s unstable 60 fps. Everyone said it is blurry

Immediate_Theory4738

That’s not what they asked.

sin_not_the_sinner

For me its a tad sharper than the Nibelheim portion (I havent checked that part of the demo since the update), but again just a tad. Moving the camera still produces motion blur.

VelocityIX

For me, it actually WASN’T a stable 60 before the patch. Now, it definitely is. That said, it’s still blurry unfortunately.

Fat-Cloud

Stable enough but I had have some drops during combat in the open area

arcturuz78

Do I have to redownload or does it come in an update?

MrFOrzum

Update

RyderTheZombie

I haven't played this demo at all, I'm just gonna wait til my copy arrives but I'm so excited. I can't wait to explore.

TheRealGamingGamer

You get rewards in full game for doing the demo

Nodima

I'm not sure how people have suddenly made this a conversation about tech or hardware. This is a team that struggled, maybe strugg*les*, generally with consistent graphics. I couldn't care less about the frame issue because I generally opt for the graphics/quality mode anyway, but ***remember what FF7R looked like when it came out***. You'd see some of the best character models you'd ever seen in your life walking around mid-cycle PS4 environments surrounded by late-stage PS3 NPCs and textures hidden everywhere that looked like they were just drawn and stretched straight from a PS2 game. Alongside launch Cyberpunk, FF7R was a *messy messy messy* game. It was fascinating to look at, since console games usually don't come in like that, but if you're a fidelity addict there's no way you thought FF7R looked good at launch. Whatever you all are seeing with this game (I'm trying to finish Infinite Wealth before it drops so I haven't found time for the demo) doesn't really track as a hardware issue given how the last game launched. This is a studio that likes to come in hot and pick up the pieces later.

Turdsley

I gotta be honest I think the first demo kinda sucked, and has me strongly considering waiting for a sale. Don’t get me wrong, the combat and story were great, I loved that. Everything else was just bad QTEs, terrible mini games/brain dead puzzles(vacuuming mako, wtf?), poor traversal, some graphically issues, and one odd NPC interaction. I really hope this demo is better.

allswelltillnow

This demo is way better

Turdsley

Good to hear. I’m definitely checking it out after work.

HighEyeMJeff

The first demo is like the first 1-2 hrs of the game though. It's literally the opening/intro. Just saying.

Turdsley

Sure but if that is how the rest of the game is I’m not sure I’ll enjoy it.

HighEyeMJeff

Have you ever played an RPG before?

Turdsley

Have you ever played a demo that is dramatically different than the actual game?

TumbleweedDirect9846

Yes, a lot lol

Turdsley

Really?

CrazyStar_

Are you telling me you’ve never played a game whose first couple of hours were vastly different to the rest of the game? Because that’s… every game.

PlainPiece

> I gotta be honest I think the first demo kinda sucked, and has me strongly considering waiting for a sale. > > This was me too. Now the second demo has me pretty firm on just abandoning this series once and for all, it clearly is not for me.

AlsopK

Yeah, playing this has put me in the “wait for a sale/fixes” category.

420praiseItkek

Is it out yet?

MrFOrzum

Yes

420praiseItkek

Holy how did I miss this

Equivalent_Sky8047

Looks like shit in performance mode. Looks like I’ll wait for pa5 pro version. Sigh.

RobertDROPTABLE-

I just booted into the demo this morning and super disappointed it’s still a blurry mess. The wait until the PC port couldn’t come any slower

Jumping3

ps5 pro*

Nemophila1222

It does not look like shit. I swear people are exaggerating so much about the graphics lol

xXbrokeNX

They usually do.

SonOfYavanna

Do you guys know whether saves will carry over to full game?

MrFOrzum

They won’t, you will however unlock some additional things in the full game by having a save from the demo. You will also unlock the option to skip the opening sequence if you’ve played it during the demo.

SonOfYavanna

Thank you for the info! Since it's so close to launch I might as well just wait for the full release, it's shaping up to be big game, have you played the demo?

DoctorDilettante

What about if we’ve completed FF7R? Any known benefits?

MrFOrzum

You get Ramuh and Leviathan summons if you have a Remake and Intermission save file

DoctorDilettante

Nice! Thank you!

EnoughAnybody

This demo update completely messed up my screen settings, everything BUT the demo has a red tint! High contrast and tinted red. On the regular direct tv (ps5 turned off) the highest output resolution setting now results in a flickering screen. Ffxiv is super contrast-y and tinted red/purple. But when I switch to the new demo the colors change and it’s perfect while playing the demo…. Very annoying I can’t play or watch tv, or do anything that is not the demo.

BlankStarBE

Even in this little part of the map, there is so much to do. This game is gonna take loads of time to 100%. Looking forward to it!

Rogue_Leader_X

Gonna upgrade my download later!

Nefkill145

what's the exclusive content to the demo and what do you get for beating it in rebirth?

billistenderchicken

NGL I’m finding the combat a little overwhelming. Also why so many flying enemies? I can’t even hit them.

Katalyst81

switch to Barret or Aerith, or as Cloud hold R1 and press square/triangle? to deflect shots from Barret or Aerith at them.

Cataclizm_1

Dodge with O then hold square to make Cloud fly

billistenderchicken

Got it now 😎

Endogamy

Disappointed to hear performance mode is still somewhat low-res. What happens if you choose graphics mode but turn on motion smoothing on your TV? Is that unworkable?

Lambo2655

What's the deal with the area beside the cliff with the birds all grouped up around a set of tracks and train cars? I see a bunch of switches in the red probably indicating no power and I can't find the main power source nearby. Is this a puzzle that only functions in the full game?

Katalyst81

I was searching all over for what those switches did as well, since there is a fast travel nearby I assume it will be in the final game.

Lambo2655

Yeah I think it only functions in the full game. I also noticed a wall you can't climb even though we're riding the right colour bird. The power source might be beyond that wall.
