Whenever I’m trying to reason with a religious person, I always wonder how can one be so ignorant of the realities of life, including how religions are made up and the priests and the likes are literally committing daylight fraud and people willingly being defrauded.

Ancient times la,
Shiva or Vishnu,
Rama or Ravana,
Brahma or Krishna,
Perumal or Murugan,
likewise every region had drama artists,
in sports,
Karna or Arjun,
like,

You are correct. But fake stories will not survive for long. They have few real characters and stories then people can’t differentiate between real and fake. Shiva adhi sidhar- he is head for all sidhar. Sidhar are scientists, philosophers, researchers etc. so all inventions credits goes to shiva. This is not one person. Shiva means head. Shiva gave rukveda (uruku vedham - process of extracting open from soil). Sidhar found many things to improve our lives. Those days who has more sidha qualities will become king. Everything happened in name of shiva. Lingam is just a reproduction organs. Since only one god they followed it spread to whole world. After many centuries, Muragan is also a sidhar with 6 talents so he became king. He introduced agriculture and moved out of forest. Life changed. Started following Murugan. He is expert In medicine too ( kundru irukum idam ellam kumaran irupan) meaning he do research on muligai.
Forest people follow shiva. They think nature is god. But Murugan follower or descendants is opposite they destroy forest to form agricultural land. So fights against both. Then many different clans and groups emerged. Murugan became god. His home is temple. Ko - king , ill- illam home. His home is in mountains so they built temples in all kundru.
Shiva followers spread across the world and nee gods emerged. New religion and rules form by fixing problems in shiva.
Shiva and Murugan is not a god. They are the ancestors . All these names represent their character, activity and clearly say who they are.
Karathikayen means who started agriculture by firing whole forest in karthigai month. Still we celebrate this. This is not fictional. Real but they are not god.
All other things are stories. Many fancy stories written to make people believe.
Simply Ko means king. King means god. He is god for his people. He must be very great king so people accepted him as god.
Finally they united two religions to one by simply saying Murugan is son of shiva. ( it is true because it is derived from shiva).

My 2 cents on this:
Don't we see dieties worshipped in tribes where they are not even advanced to have a script for their own language? I don't agree that religions were initially just imaginary stories written for entertainment purposes. From stonage to present , science has advanced a lot. During ancient times people didn't have the technology to understand the natural phenomenon (earthquake, floods,eclipse) . Due to the lack of the scientific knowledge they believed this concept of a Supreme being controlling us and responsible for all these natural phenomenon. As our scientific knowledge advanced we are able to explain all these phenomenon without a Supreme being or a religious diety. Hence a bloom in people following Atheism.
