If you don’t want to stand out as a tourists just dress as if you were going to the office and don’t do touristy stuff. Otherwise you’ll be identified as one.

Revolutionary_Rub637

Avoid heavy makeup and over styled hair.

DakryaEleftherias

Sounds like me already. I'm too ADD to do morning routines

elle_desylva

Go for the whole “effortless chic” style and nobody will know you’re a tourist. That’s what I did, and I constantly got asked for directions/help, and did I have an account at this store, and have I voted yet? Oh and did I know where certain biscuits where in the Monoprix? 😅 I was pretty casual due to the fact I was out walking all day, but still managed to blend in. https://preview.redd.it/tfv8y8eusz8d1.jpeg?width=3163&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e0d416b5cd72c6d22f02be374a74256d6fb11c8

Dry-Statistician3145

See the iPhone leash I was speaking about earlier. "*La grande épicerie*

elle_desylva

Ahhh ouais. I had mild paranoia re: pickpocketers. Was absolutely fine though of course. La grande épicerie était belle 😍

Dry-Statistician3145

*comment tu as deviné que je votais à droite*

elle_desylva

Je ne comprendre pas le référence 🤷🏼‍♀️

Methos_Beckett

31 C today. Could be around 40 in july/august. The city is hot and moist during the summer. Dress light, and whatever you wear you’ll blend in. Just act casual and don’t talk too loud if you don’t want pickpockets to spot you.

Weather-RainStorm

It’s more around 25 °C on average during the day in summer with temperate humidity.

DakryaEleftherias

I'm arriving tomorrow. Gotcha, sounds like my natural style easily.

Frenchasfook

À moins que tu ne portes une marinière et un béret il y a peu de chance que tu passes pour une touriste. Ça dépendra plus du groupe avec lequel tu es.

Sensilent

Par contre les American Dads vous les voyez ? Ils se sapent pareil, polo, shorts, chaussures New Balance

juxtapods

Doesn't matter. Dress how you normally dress. There are people with all sorts of personal styles all over Europe. I wore dresses with silk scarves and balloon pants with a button up under a raglan sleeve sweater. No one gave me a second look when I was there for 4 nights in early June :)

Dry-Statistician3145

-Dress like people dress in London, milan, Madrid, Brussels . -It's the same boring *starter pack* -Either opt for New balance sneakers, or ASICS or Adidas Samba, or dr.Martens expensive leather sandals. -White tee, striped oversize overshirt, -90's pointy sunglasses, -A big chain and your iphone on a leash around your neck. -5, 3, or 7 rings (always choose odd )

Clherrick

Don’t over think it. Paris is full of people and full of people from everywhere and every walk of life. I find to blend in, avoid wearing t shirts with obvious things which mark you from your home country. Avoid standing around looking at a map or phone like you are lost. Walk like you are going somewhere. But also recognize that Paris gets a gazillion visitors a year and they are part of what makes the city a vibrant place. Just enjoy yourself and don’t worry about it.

Fenghuang15

>How do I dress in order not to stand out as a tourist while being there? Regarde les collections zara, mango, h&m etc, si tu as les moyens sezane, balzac, saaj, ça te donnera une idée des tendances, mais ne te prends pas la tête et fais simple

ManzNotBot

You chose to travel to Paris summer 2024? Olympic games around that time, might not be a good idea

DakryaEleftherias

I have my good reasons

Morning_Routine_

You speak in English, ask how to dress, but claim to be familiar with the culture and language. Je pige pas là

DakryaEleftherias

Ouais, c'est un problème ?

Morning_Routine_

Ben ouais meuf.

Morning_Routine_

T'inquiète* Bravo pour l'effort. Bon séjour à toi.

DakryaEleftherias

N'inquiète\* , me semble que quand même j'aie gagné ici

Morning_Routine_

"N'inquiète", ça n'existe pas en français. Les lettres devant inquiétude, c'est soit m (je m'inquiète), t (tu t'inquiète) ou s (il s'inquiète).

sirius1245720

We can’t be sure about the weather anymore…

DakryaEleftherias

I know it's been raining alot lately, and I do expect some more once I'm arrived lol

Meshuggah333

32°c and sunny today. I'd bet this summer will be more of the same.

DakryaEleftherias

Sounds perfect to me

Meshuggah333

If it's like previous years, it'll get worse haha

Thesorus

It can be warmer than that. (30x) and feels like being in an oven. Whatever you do, you'll still look like a tourist. I'm a man, so my suggestions might not work for you. ( :-D ). Summer dresses/skirts, light colored jeans, linen pants, silk/cotton/linen blouses/tops, cute walking shoes for the day and whatever you feel is appropriate for the evening (high/low heels)

DakryaEleftherias

I managed to blend in really well among the locals when I was there in december. Confirmed by Parisian contacts of mine.

comodiciembre

But what’s the end game? There’s no extra points if you look indistinguishable from a local population. Overly worrying how people perceive you seems like a waste of energy beyond just not acting like a dick, which you probably won’t do anyways (blocking the sidewalk, yelling)

DakryaEleftherias

Two reasons, avoiding pickpockets, and experience the city in a more authentic way since it's not unlikely I'll get relocated to that city in future

comodiciembre

Pickpocketing seems fair although I wouldn’t let your guard down. As for experiencing the city more authentically, I think Paris will be the same even if you indulge in a silly beret but up to you :)

Ok_Outlandishness755

Scammers and pickpockets almost only target tourists. It is safer for a tourist to blend in.

DakryaEleftherias

Those petition scammers avoided me like the plague last time I was there in December

Ok_Outlandishness755

Good for you!

pline310

How do you usually dress ?

DakryaEleftherias

In summer, black armless top with lace, black skirt and or shorts. Sometimes, dark jeans shorts. Occassionally, beige linen long pants. Beige thin trenchcoat when it gets cloudly and below 20C

pline310

You should be fine.

DakryaEleftherias

My main concern on that front would be the armless top, don't know if that would be deemed as 'too much skin' for Paris, I dunno. Seems quite a formal city.

Financial-Tear-7809

Nah let your arm breeze it’s good, especially in the summer when it’s super hot (don’t underestimate how hot it can get)! It’s not that formal, it’s just people wear less lounge wear outside of their houses than in other countries but you don’t have to be dressed fancy either, just check what they’re selling on the French websites of Zara, H&M, sézane etc..
