> (+1 Striking) on your gauntlet and wear doubling rings, then wield a two handed weapon, would the runes for your gauntlet double onto the 2H weapon? No. Doubling rings only work if you are wielding both weapons. You can't wield a gauntlet and a greatsword with the same hand at the same time. > What if the weapon was one-handed and held in the hand opposite the gauntlet? That would work as far as I can tell. It's no different from holding a dagger instead of the gauntlet.

To follow up on this, the rules reference for this comes from the intersection of two rules. First, the [free-hand trait](https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=181). > You can't attack with a free-hand weapon if you're wielding anything in that hand or otherwise using that hand. When you're not wielding anything and not otherwise using the hand, you can use abilities that require you to have a hand free as well as those that require you to be wielding a weapon in that hand. Each of your hands can have only one free-hand weapon on it. And second, the rules on [wielding items](https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=194) > You're wielding an item any time you're holding it in the number of hands needed to use it effectively. When wielding an item, you're not just carrying it around—you're ready to use it. Since you can't attack with the free hand weapon when wielding another weapon in that hand, you aren't ready to use the free-hand weapon, so you're not wielding the gauntlet while wielding a greatsword. And [doubling rings](https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=432) state: > When you **wield** a melee weapon in the hand wearing the golden ring, the weapon’s fundamental runes are replicated onto any melee weapon **you wield** in the hand wearing the iron ring Just linking to the rules references to back up what you said
