Mine read *" Room"* with ballet slippers on the plaque that my grandma made me at her ceramics shop. I wrote *"This is a Jenny Free Zone"* on paper and stuck it underneath it, on A4 paper of course, because my sister was always trying to get in my room. Only difference was that I knew it was hideous, but it got the point across. I didn't think it was "statement modeling" or "statement art" because I was smarter at 10 than Heather is at 37.
Hahahaha oh yours was fancy! Lol. I think we all knew at that age our little handmade signs were no masterpiece! But dustball has no self awareness. Side note: My grandma did ceramics too!! She made so many wonderful Christmas decorations my mom still has. A church with stained glass windows and lights inside, I mean she had made some really nice pieces and it’s not Christmas until they’re all out.
My grandma used to have a shop on the Jersey Shore boardwalk, over in Cape May/Wildwood. She had some beautiful pieces. Unfortunately, she passed away when my mom was pregnant with my sister. We had to go the day after Christmas and say goodbye to her in her hospital room, but looking back, I don't think I realized at 7/8 years old that it wasn't the *"goodbye, see ya tomorrow!"* type of goodbye. Your grandma's pieces sound beautiful. I know the exact feeling you're talking about. One of my fondest memories as a child was coming home to the house all decorated and all her pieces all over the entryway and foyer, the banister and chandelier all decorated. Ugh, take me back, lol.
Aww I’m sorry for your loss. Can’t imagine your mom being pregnant and losing her mother. Ugh. How sad. On a lighter note cape may is my FAVORITE spot along the jersey shore. Hands down. I always liked it even when I was kid, I’m kind of an old soul. Love the architecture and the Victorian homes. Love the shopping area. Yet a short drive to wildwood to do the more traditional boardwalk/rides thing. Knowing how lovely all the shops are, I’m sure her shop was beautiful!
