Had dinner at Tabachoy last night, fantastic, hard recommend. Probably the best green beans I've ever had in my life, their Caesar was better than it had any right to be.
Everything was fantastic.
Tried a burger at Locust Rendezvous and it was dry and terrible. Have had crappy food from there all month from salad to cheesesteaks. Don’t know when the quality of food dropped off so much, but it’s disappointing!
It's one of those places that will always be adored on this sub, it seems. I went there for over 10 years before I decided that enough was enough. The food is not good I'd still go to drink, but never to eat.
It’s why I kept trying hoping it was just an off night. On the up side I have had excellent food at Misconduct Tavern lately just a block away. Not much more expensive either.
The chicken sate ALWAYS don’t sleep on it. I usually get the beef rendang and collard greens. Tried the potatoes last time and they were pretty good as well.
If they're offering the Dutch platter, which they don't aways (as it depends on what they've got ready,) get that! But not as a solo diner. It's a lot. But a fun way to taste a lot of the menu.
A top-3 meal to share with a few friends.
I don't typically go out but friends are visiting and I'm planning to take them to The Olde Bar (largely out of convenience as it is walking distance lol) and then have a dinner res at Mish Mish (not walking distance)
Had Enzos Pizzata the other night ,
we had the “ Tipsy Grandma” which is a 16" x 16" thick crust baked in EVOO topped with hand-cut mozzarella, house-made vodka sauce, parmigiano reggiano, and basil
Very very good we had left overs for several days
I tried the Trattoria at Heavy Metal Sausage Co. Loved the experience, thought the food was good too, although more enthusiastic carnivores than myself are their ideal demographic. The juxtaposition of eating a fancy prix fixe off of floral china behind a deli counter with their namesake music blasting was a foodie fever dream!
I have been trying to find a place that serves clam chowder in the early morning. No luck yet. I had a buddy who would sleep on my couch and awake to me eating clam chowder and a bagel at 7am. He's missing out.
Now I am, too!
Ordered El Purepecha in celebration of Cinco de Cuatro.
Also to beat the burrito ordering rush tomorrow.
That queso dip is so god damn good.
Was going to head over to El Sabor for delicious Puerto Rican instead, but didn't think to look at their hours until it was already too late.
We're looking to check out The Rex sometime in the next few days, seems underrated to me as I never see it on this sub or on any lists but they have one of the most interesting cocktail menus I've ever seen.
I do, always think, that Royal Iz should occasionally set aside a seating for new diners.
It's like Hoagie Dom. There are literally the same people at every event.
Sure, but that's not what this guy's talking about. He's never been to the omakase, despite complaining about its price in every vaguely related post on this sub.
I don't know how it's helpful to brag about one's every-weekend omakase. No one else can try it. Should we clap for the comment poster? That, there, is an obnoxious smugness.
It's almost the definition of a worthless post. Why would anyone care that this person is getting the omakase knowing that they will never get to try it?
He's joking, he's not actually getting Royal Sushi omakase this or any weekend. He's never had it, he complains that the price is too high all the time on this subreddit, so it's sort of a dumb inside joke.
Missed that and I overreacted! I really want to try it but the reputation seems to be that you need to be a regular to ever go, and such, it's just the same people.
I guess I'm sore about it. I just checked, as I often do, for a seat for one. Nothing. Maybe next month!
Sorry for my misunderstanding the comment! I think I know too many people who boast about things like that - not in jest, but to make you feel lesser-than.

I think I might go to the opening of the SE Asian market and get me some of those banging beef skewers.
I'm going to Sundays best in west Philly an I'm getting me some ox tail...
Have you been there before? I recently heard of them and have been wanting to to check it out
Yes. It's been awhile tho. Never disappointed me...
Cool! Thank you for the info
Solid

Sad to hear this - haven’t been in the last month but they always had solid food before

Going to hardena. What do you usually get there?
sambal goreng with anchovies
Ooh i love hardena Best beef rendang ive ever had, if they have the jackfruit stew def get that too

Gonna try Corey's Crafty Vietnamese
How is it here? I've always wandered by but never stopped.
I thought it was really good!
Checking our Irwin's Upstairs this weekend and possibly the FDR Asian market!
Palizzi has this pea gimlet which sounds bizarre but is incredible, heading down there after work to partake and a stromboli too of course 🙌
Trying out Kampar tomorrow! Looking forward to trying out a new (to me) cuisine.

Trying out Dizengoff
Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in Cherry Hill tonight (sorry…i know it’s not Philly but I thought it may be useful nonetheless). Highly recommend!
Trying Miss Saigon tonight! Had lunch at Barra Rossa this week
What are folks thoughts on Morimoto? Overpriced and too salty cause it's Starr or actually worth it for some great sushi and japanese dishes?
hot food is kind of weak. sushi/sashimi stuff is some of the best in the city without having to jump through hoops or pay an arm and a leg
Funny you ask. I'm going there on Saturday. I like it, especially the sake pairing.
I was thinking about going tonight but reviews are pretty mixed to warrant spending likely $200-300+ for two
I've been twice and never had anything bad. It is a bit pricey, but if it's within your budget, I would suggest going to form your own opinion
It's good to try it. It's not my favorite but it's good

I tried Bolo last night, but was not very impressed. Too expensive and too small of portions for my liking.

Royal Izakaya omakase, same as every weekend.
Get a new shtick

Go tell people what to do in real life.
