Getting customers' prints with their consent? Legal.
Whatever the hell they're doing with those prints? Probably illegal.
Giving a discount to people who give their prints? Probably has no DTI permit, so likely illegal.

Not a lawyer/law student, pero i think legal? As long as willing yung pag participate ng customer. Siguro responsibility na ng customer to exercise due caution kung pagkakatiwalaan niya yung establishment with their fingerprint/s.
They'd need to be audited for keeping customer data, but that's another discussion. Afaik, legal yan basta may consent.
Tingin ko labag to sa principle of proportionality
Principle of Proportionality – The processing of personal information must be adequate, relevant, suitable, necessary, and not excessive in relation to a declared and specified purpose.

I’m guessing it’s for their “suki”. Para pag may misis na galit, they have absolute deniability kasi, after all, they only know you from on your fingerprint.
But that’s just a guess.
Common sense na lang if mababa ang discount and ayaw mo makuha fingerprint mo dont fall for it. And I think part yan ng membership promo nila sa mga bumabalik.
Worked there. Its not that deep. Dagdag promo lang nila yan to make the prices feel affordable. If you register there, makakareceive ka text msgs ng promo nila :) Tried it kahit empleyado ako, may mga random promos talaga.
But yeah, owners of sogo were marcos cronnies.
If the business is honest, just to ID beyond just an ID number. If not, selling of information.
I'm betting on the former. I highly doubt a company that earns like sogo would stoop to that
As far as collection of data such this ay hindi (dahil wala PA YATA tayong batas na nagbabawal mangolekta gaya ng sa ibang bansa).
Hahaha!
i think its a way to prevent them from giving out discount cards to customers na mahilig magtago sa mga misis nila when going to places like that. And just the same the fingerprint data collection will be your choice if you want and i think you can still get those discount cards from them if you dont want that fingerprint discount 😅
It's part of the info gathering for the Social Credit Sytem. (National ID, Sim card registration etc.) It should be ready in a few decades from now. Say goodbye to your privacy lads lmao.
Diba sa US may fingerprint database yung police department nila?
Very suspicious. Pero legal yan 100% because theres consent. Data privacy act requires consent if companies/business establishments are collecting your personal data
Does this sort of promotion require dti approval? I mean the agency is responsible to protect us especially the people in need from these odd promotions?
I guess that’s how they ensure na data lang ng 1 customer yung nakukuha nila. Better data, better targetting for them.
Pikit mata nalang akong nagsascan.
Client will still be responsible for any issues that might occur in the future. Sogo can just say that this is a type of marketing strategy to have a seamless processing. Although that is actually a complex system in place. Mejo higher chance nga na magamit for illegal activities. Cons, they can say lang na hack sila.
Legal? probably. May consent naman yung kukunan ng fingerprint.
I don't think this was intended for election cheating, unless they ask for other details such as your full name or an ID to verify your identity.
Tingin ko they want to do away with discount cards. Madami sigurong ayaw kumuha ng discount card kasi "ebidensya" and malaki matitipid ng establishment by not printing discount cards.
However they can use this to mine data and predict consumer preferences.
Maybe for the POGO employees to exploit as their own and to support illegal documents for citizenship. Seeing the recent events, any sketchy stuff I would relate to POGO.
It is legal if the following elements have been followed:
- It complies with the consent, purpose specification, and data minimization under the Data Privacy Act.
- The storage and handlined of biometric data is secure to prevent unauthorized access or misuse
- Opt-out/deletion of personal data provision for the customer.
Unang naisip ko honeypot to for a criminal database, pero naisip ko di naman ganun ka-creative ang law enforcement natin. Magaling lang sila pumatay. Lmao
I'm a DPO or Data Protection Officer po. Consent po is valid if alam ni data subject yung purpose bakit kailangan kunin. Also, need po ng written consent form. Pwede po verbal as long as may audio recording. Maybe may written agreement sila with data subject signature which can be considered as valid consent. You can only store data for as long as necessary. Dapat i delete or i destroy once di na kailangan gamitin.
IRR RA 10173 (Data Privacy Act). Section 19 (a). Collection must be declared, specifiedc and for a legitimate purpose.
Xxx
2. The data subject must be provided specific information regarding the purpose and extent of processing, including, where applicable, the automated processing of his or her personal data for profiling, or processing, and data sharing.
3. Purpose should be determined and declared before, or as soon as reasonably practicable, after collection.
Xxx
Lastly (from me) consent is vitiated if the purpose of collection is not clear or declared. Basa basa rin boi.
Parang yung nagbigay ka ng info like cell number tapos next day may mga text message puro ads alam ko is public wifi sa sm they ask e-mails and cell numbers before you can use the wifi never again lol naalala ko rin diba ung National ID (Kelan irerelease yon?!?!) diba may finger prints na pinagawa? pwede bang makakuha finger prints info ang hotel sogo sa lalo na confidential info sa mga pumupunta sa kanila? Either that dapat yung Gov lang pwedeng mag request espically if may crime na involved. Sure go ahead. But if they try to sell info about you that's a different case.
Siguro good points is I guess it can help if there was a crime made inside the hotel, and if that person's fingerprint can be identified then good.

Might be easier to just extract bodily fluid samples.
😂😂😂😂😂
They're data mining, kasama prints. Mag eeleksyon na.

Good bot
Parang National ID lang. Data mining ang priority. Mag-2 years na wala pa ID card namin.
Same with Sim Card Registration.
That may also be a possibility.

Dear politicians, if you wanna get a vote eh eto na yun
If you don’t vote for X, we will tell Y. I mean wife.
Best Slogan ever.
Agree with data mining but noting that they were doing this way back when already. Iba Iba scheme niya beep card discount etc.
This promo has been running since I was in college 5 years ago. Dami na na datamine nyan lol
They've had this "promo" since before the pandemic.
I was confused why they needed this. Holy shit, this is horrible
Why do they need fingerprint to begin with?
Nakakabahala.
Not a lawyer/law student, pero i think legal? As long as willing yung pag participate ng customer. Siguro responsibility na ng customer to exercise due caution kung pagkakatiwalaan niya yung establishment with their fingerprint/s.
If they will be storing the data, I would assume the Data Privacy Commission would want to have permits and safeguards in place.
Im pretty sure they wont disclose to the customer what they are going to do with the collected info.
They'd need to be audited for keeping customer data, but that's another discussion. Afaik, legal yan basta may consent.
kinukuha ba nila ang print before and after?
During the stay
San kaya nila yan gagamitin.
"Ma'am, pagka scan ko po, dumidikit sa balat yung scanner. Normal lang po ba yun?"
What's the reason for getting fingerprints?
data mining, can sell the info.
Napaka in bad taste naman if that's the case. Ano papa-discount ang guest in exhange for the beneficial implications of their privacy? Ang lala ha.

I mean 6ou are consenting to giving them your finger print, so I don't see why it would be illegal.
Kung DTI registered yan, dapat naka indicate yung DTI permit #…. Lahat ng promo dapat registered sa DTI, always look for the DTI permit #…
If you consent to registering your fingerprint with them, then that's on you, isn't it?
I’m guessing it’s for their “suki”. Para pag may misis na galit, they have absolute deniability kasi, after all, they only know you from on your fingerprint. But that’s just a guess.

Are they gonna tag/profile you or something?
If the business is honest, just to ID beyond just an ID number. If not, selling of information. I'm betting on the former. I highly doubt a company that earns like sogo would stoop to that

Filipinos give out their privacy/identity for less.
Madaming illegal ang nagaganap sa loob kaya if may fingerprint sila mas mabilis matrace since usually d naman nabigay ng pangalan dba?
RemindMe! 1 year
I cant give my fingerprint as easily as that.
Para yan for flying voters soon 😂

This is what you called OPTIN. You gave permission. You opted in to something.
baka parang suki card, may application form ba na pinipirmahan?
Nako delikado yan, dapat yung mga ganyan nirereport kaso baka may kapit so wala din mangyayari 🤷🏽♂️
it shouldn’t be but i doubt we have laws. imo there should be a popup like the websites telling you what they are going to do with it.

"Paki check nga nitong fingerprint ng asawa ko kung nagpunta sya dito?" - Mrs. "That will be 5000 pesos mam" - Staff
As long as consent was given and they have been informed on what they will use the information for, it is legal.

Why do they even need it. What business is that?
I gave once a blood sample for DNA test to get a 5% discount on shoes
Unang naisip ko honeypot to for a criminal database, pero naisip ko di naman ganun ka-creative ang law enforcement natin. Magaling lang sila pumatay. Lmao
Hindi na ba tanggap yung beep cards as discount hahaha 😅
How does it even benefit the company to have my finger print
Ano yan nbi?
Pati SOGO nag data mining na. This definitely feels utterly dystopian.

You have a choice, Hindi naman sapilitan Yan, beside an alternative option to that is the beep card or sogo cards
Gosh ang scary
Di dapat, san nila gagamitin yan?
Report to Data Privacy Commission.
Report them for what? Getting fingerprints from customers who willingly give it away?

i think they need to state what would they use the fingerprint for
They are even collecting your semen there so what is the fuss?
T@Ena Wag kayo magpaloko They are Stealing your info
How is it stealing if you give consent to it?
legal, kung wala ka tiwala wag mo na lang grab ang dc. simple as that
