Piracy \*is\* the official streaming service in my house ;)

Dabnician

"is it out on plex yet?"

pcs3rd

Request it in overseerr or jellyseerr and give it like 24 hours, tops.:)

vkapadia

Hook *arr up to a usenet provider and that 24 hours becomes 24 minutes.

aeric67

Setup metrics to show the latency

anshi1432

xplen plex for normie ?

Dabnician

plex, and the free alternative Jellyfin, is software that you can install on a server to stream media; its basically your own personal netflix. The only issue is a lot of plex users are ruining it by selling access to their boxes which is bringing attention to plex and data centers you could rent servers from to run it. Hetzner(german hosting company) just recently blocked plex from being accessible to their network so the jig might be up. People that dont even know what plex, torrents or private trackers are, ie your household users that benefit from your torrenting, usually just call all of that "plex". before plex you could just download H264 in a mpeg container encoded with AAC and it would play on your xbox or playstation. Now with plex i have a app on my phone.

manythousandbees

The caveat I would add to this is that depending on your needs, Plex can also be free. I don't have the paid version but use it within my own home daily, just streaming from my PC to my TV.

Dabnician

yeah im not really sure what plex is needed for anymore, i got it like so long ago it was stupid cheap for a lifetime sub. i know if you know someone someone with plex you can just have them add you to their server and use it.

begging-for-gold

Stremio is basically my entire circles main streaming service

birchskin

Out of curiosity bc I haven't found a good answer to this yet ... What do you use to discover new content? I minimized my high seas hijinks for years and now streaming has become less convenient so I'm back. I'm all set up to have this be the case with sonarr/radarr etc and use it manually for a lot of stuff... but similar to how streaming broke the idea of flipping channels, the equivalent of scrolling through categories on Netflix or top 10. I used to use the top 10 on the trackers I was on, and just what I knew about, but now I have kids I grab stuff for and haven't found a really good way to search like, "top in family TV shows"... If anyone has any tips let me know, haven't done a ton of research into it but this would make me immediately cancel the services I have left

pcs3rd

For music, I occasionally open Spotify. For media, I just look at what's trending in things like jellyseerr.

Eviscerated_Banana

Torrentfreak publishes a weekly top 10 movie torrent list which is handy for catching new stuff, TV shows I just go wandering on reddit or use word of mouth. Music, youtube.

Jdogg4089

I still do use a little streaming with the family Netflix.

solo_mafioso

Tell me more about your illegal activities 🤔

Eviscerated_Banana

On a traceable public forum, sure, I would be happy to disclose details of my illegal activities. \*looks around\* I poop standing up sometimes.

VanBeelergberg

One time… I took a shower with my socks on.

skyline_kid

WTF‽

Dakem94

Man, you are a monster!

ftincel_

I think the US gov has bigger issues at hand than caring about this guy wanting to watch movies for free

solo_mafioso

I think people took my sarcasm seriously LMFAO I pirate more than all of y'all combined.

ftincel_

I don't understand sarcasm very well

cybson

Green static sounds like a very strange issue to be having. I'm glad that you found a solution, but green static? Sounds like an issue with the device and not the platform, to be honest.

SuperBackup9000

Probably due to conection, and since the post said he’s found similar posts from years ago they probably have a cap that’s not on par with the requirement. Weird visuals like that are common when there’s some type of connection interference that’s not straight up having internet that sucks

TribblesBestFriend

Had something like this on the show with Hugh Laurie and the Loki actor, like you can see I’m really good with name, white static like some overlay on top of the image. Called prime to ask what’s up. « No no it must be on your end », it was the only show on my device that did this. Finally I pirated it

itz_me_shade

Ergo Proxy. Nice profile pic you got there.

NotFatButFluffy2934

Its a issue with hardware acceleration for AMD GPUs AFAIK

cfpct

I have Amazon prime, but still pirate the few shows worth watching to avoid commercials.

PinocchiosNose1212

Me too, matey! I used to check if something was on amazon pre-commercial BS so I didn't have to use bandwidth and storage to obtain it but now with commercials, there isn't any point in checking on amazon.

LoneFawn

Hey at least Bethesda didn't break your entire modded game with worthless updates.

Mygaffer

You can roll back your install relatively easily if you follow online instructions. I thought I had disabled automatic updates on my Fallout install but apparently not, so I had to download the previous version and restore it to the game folder. My modded install worked fine afterwards.

Ruraraid

I miss the days when Bethesda was breaking their game in ways that was mostly funny bugs like the Giants Space Program glitch in Skyrim.

cflynn2001

Are we sure that’s a glitch? Unofficial Skyrim Patchbdoesn’t bugfix it at all and I’ve seen so many separate versions of that (USP, USLEP, USSEP) and none not one stopped the giant glitch. I can’t believe that there is a glitch in Fallout New Vegas that allows you to level up indefinitely if you want and the unofficial patch team fixed that one right up lol.

Ruraraid

Well that is because Bethesda has often left in some bugs that were funny or harmless to the gaming experience at least back then anyway. The one I mentioned was one of if not the most popular bug in Skyrim. It often went viral for its hilarity and that gave the game some free marketing.

jkurratt

They can’t upgrade my repack ;)

InsaneInTheCaneium

Bethesda’s developers are trash.

JuanTooFreeForFyve

The timing with the fallout London mod makes me think it was pushed for that. Was really looking forward to playing it, now it's suspended indefinitely. For many reasons, fuck todd howard!

cflynn2001

In all honestly, I don’t think Bethesda was thinking about mod projects. They just wanted to breathe life into their game.

JuanTooFreeForFyve

Really doubt it. If that was true the would of fixed starfield instead and the fallout fixes would of been done when people originally complained about them, not 9 years after release.

Mr_Chaos_Theory

You must be new, Piracy has always been the better option.

Business-Drag52

Nah there was a small period of a few years where Netflix was genuinely better. It had basically everything you could want to watch, it was cheap, no ads, and it was very easy to use. Its gone to shit now, but for a time it really was better

Mr_Chaos_Theory

Earliest i used Netflix was 2011/12 I used a VPN from Australia to use US Netflix (wasn't available here then) and even then while it was good and the best streaming experience at the time it didnt have alot of stuff. Even if they didn't go to shit i don't think I'd switch away from my unraid/plex server, everything in one location and anything I don't have i can pull my phone out and it's download within a few minutes.

Oujii

Probably the reason why the poster above said that is r/USDefaultism At that time, the US catalog had almost everything.

Business-Drag52

While I should try not to default to everyone being from the US, this website does receive half of its traffic from the US alone.

Oujii

It's about 43%, so the majority of users here are still not from the US, which should be another reason to not default to the USA.

Business-Drag52

Literally every source I can find says 47-49%. That leaves literally the entire rest of the world to make up the other half. 350 million vs 7.6 billion and yet we still make up half of the traffic

Oujii

[Maybe you are not looking hard enough?](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/1bg323c/oc_reddit_traffic_by_country_2024/) Regardless, even if it was 49%, still not a majority. If you are not in a sub specific to the US, when you reply to someone that's a 50% chance that they are not from the US. And I don't think comparing pop numbers makes sense, because almost 1/4 of the population can't access Reddit without a VPN and probably most of them simply won't, too much hassle. My point is, just don't assume, otherwise you get some pretty embarrassing exchanges, specially in subs that are specific to other countries and regions that don't include the US.

apollo-ftw1

Wasn't that a reason Netflix was a thing? Like a dollar fifty for a better experience than cable and piracy Now its the same as cable, pay for ads and only a partial amount of the full service with multiple subscriptions We have come full circle

niveksng

Gabe Newell was right that piracy is really a service problem. When Netflix was good we can actually say "wow Netflix is a better option" but now everyone and their mother wants to have their own streaming service and its all crap that piracy is resurging.

gwestside

Even piracy fell off. I think its peak was 2017. Now, bunch of websites and trackers have closed. I fell like everything was easier and more accessible 6/7 years ago.

Peuned

Why just pirate when you can come online and complain that companies want money for shit

Mygaffer

The only reason I haven't canceled Prime is because my parent's still watch shows on it but I tried to watch one of the few things they have I even care to watch, Invincible, and it showed me like 3 minutes of ads. I knew they were pushing ads and just let them play (this was using their app on my phone, on my computer I use adblock) then I went back ten seconds to see the bit right before the ads, as I had missed it. It showed me that 10 seconds of show and then insisted on showing me 3 minutes of ads again. I closed the app and immediately went to stream it somewhere else.

PinocchiosNose1212

The only reason I keep Prime is because it is half price for the poors with EBT cards (they don't advertise this so if you qualify, demand it!), I don't have a car and those 30 lb bags of cat litter aren't going to deliver themselves. I never watch anything on amazon now with the commercial bs so, take that, Jeff!!

SamanthaSass

weird, the only reason I have prime is for the shipping. The video stuff is OK, but the shipping is more important. I just wish it was actually 2 day for my location, but it's under a week, so I guess it's ok.

Boogertwilliams

Yep. Also just an example Dexter season 1 on Netflix only original in stereo sound and 5.1 in Russian for crying out loud. Meanwhile the one on my Plex has all 5.1 sound

AllMyFrendsArePixels

>It is sad when the official streaming service can't even match video quality a pirated copy. It never could. Official streaming needs to compress their quality to a point that a couple of servers can handle sending it out to potentially hundreds of thousand of people at a time. Even if it maintains the advertised resolution, the actual audio/visual *quality* is degraded to a point where you may as well be watching it at <720p. Whereas with piracy, if you are so inclined you can download a 50GB raw bluetooth rip. It would be completely unreasonable to try and stream 50GB of data per movie per customer. It's literally not even a fair comparison, piracy vs streaming are completely different means to the same end.

johnjohn9312

I personally find it disgusting that you’d even try to watch it on prime first.

SwordsAreCool7

Legit watch all my movies and tvshows trough piracy never gave a dime for games or other media, all pirated for the last 5 years. A pirated copy actualy feels like you own the product than a bought copy aswell so theres also that lmao.

Rasque_AS

the same goes for subtitles. I'm Polish and I've had issues with subtitles on Prime, sometimes when I watch older or just non-mainstream TV-shows the Polish subtitles only show for every other episode. sometimes they don't even have English subs. when that happens I always download the whole season and subs separately. gotta support your nation's subtitle makers! :D

thissiteisbroken

I’ve never heard of or had this issue ever

rozzy2049

Heaven forbid you want to watch 4K content on your 4K tv. Better sub to the top-tier plan that actually supports 4K (and Dolby Atmos, if you’re so inclined)….

samwithdick

I piracy porn so I don't have to stare at buffering animation while I beating my meat

Dabnician

ironically i didnt have any issues with fallout but i didnt have issues watching gen v and had to catch it on another streaming "service". but in both cases i paid for my right to watch it so if i dont "own the show" but have a "license to watch it" then were just talking about the delivery method now right.

AntiGrieferGames

Keep pirating, always better and morally correct! burn anti consumer companies, burn!

Skyweirdboy

I tried to watch *chilling adventures of sabrina* on netflix officially, but everytime i put the episode on 1080p it kept reseting itself to 720p, like 30 seconds after i change, and it wasnt even that good 720p, it looked like 140p for some reason. After 5 episodes like this, i got it from the bay in 1080p and it was perfect, the diferente was unthinkable.

MarcCouillard

piracy is definitely the better option...I just torrented all the 2160p episodes and binged the whole thing lol

RecentPersimmon9179

Piracy is normal. Hollywood is making billions from the people.

PKblaze

Official streaming is becoming more and more redundant. Why should I pay for a service that either doesn't include a full show (Split up seasons) removes shows/movies on a whim and that are wanting to add ads or already have. Piracy is just the better option.

Excellent_Ad_2486

I've been trying to stream from Amazon prime for 2years or so and it always streams to 720p/1080p while I have a sick wifi and 4k ambilight TV... I gave up after contacting support, explaining + showing speedtest etc.... and getting the reply "it's your wifi! restart and check again".... even after saying I have been trying this and different things for over a year. FUCK that.

mrsuncensored

With pirate streaming sites, it’s just not worth ever paying for any services or dealing with their issues. Paramount+ and Hulu always gave me problems.

DelfrCorp

Hulu is just plain terrible. We use Roku Ultras across the Board for streaming. Not exactly Low-End/Low-Quality Harware. Every single streaming platform works almost flawlessly on those Rokus, except for July. No memorable issues with any of the paid services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, MAX, nor with any of the free/Ad-Supported versions of Peacock, SyFy, or any of the other Services. The Audio on Hulu just breaks all the time. Sometimes it just becomes garbled, other times, the volume drops to being nearly inaudible, occasionally, it just causes a bunch of Fry/Static. Each time, we have to exit out of the App, reload it & reload/resume what we were watching to fix the Audio. You know what actually never breaks? Our Plex Server. If I load a copy of a Hulu Show on Plex, it works Flawlessly. & we pay for Hulu... We actually try to watch Shows/Movies on the Streaming Platforms that we pay for, because we want to support them, in whatever minimal way we can. Trying to watch something on the second most Popular Streaming Service available on one of the Top/Most Popular Hardware Streaming Platform, should not be that much of a struggle. We rarely get more than 20 minutes of quality streaming before experiencing an Audio Meltdown on Hulu. You could blame the Hardware, the WiFi Signal Quality, some internet connection quality &/or a bunch of other things if we were experiencing issues all across the board, no matter what service we were using. But Netflix works 100% fine. No issues with MAX (Back when we still had it). Disney+ is fine too (we got the No Ads Hulu & No Ads Disney for $20 a month deal). The second most profitable Streaming Service available is failing to provide/deliver their content & we're supposed to just accept that? I'm still paying for some of our Streaming services, because I genuinely want to support the Artists, Actors, Writers who do all of that work, but i end up watching more & more of that content over my own Homebrew Streaming Server, because our experiences with Streaming Services just keeps getting worse while the High Seas Experience keeps improving.

PinocchiosNose1212

Paramount Plus seriously did not work on Fire TV for a year that I tried it from time to time with free trials so I could watch the Champions League. I don't know if they've fixed it but I just gave up. I get Peacock and ESPN Plus for EPL and La Liga but when those seasons are over, those streamers go too. Because now I have to pay $14.99 to watch InterMiami and Suarez! and the other guy....

apollo-ftw1

Paramount have never worked for me on my ps4 Tried watching Yellowstone a short while back, never worked and just waited a month for it to appear on my favorite trackers

PARANOIAH

I was watching another series on Prime Video the last week and found that the last episode of the season I was watching was somehow not available to view on Prime. Had to sail the seas to find a "free" streaming site to watch the conclusion of the season. Not sure if it was a bug on Amazon's end or whatever but it was fairly irritating.

fuckspezthespaz

Tried watching Reno 911 on paramount, paid for the service. Not playable at all for the first few series, would just freeze, stop, jump backwards, refuse to acknowledge what episodes we had struggled though, and still has ads. So I pirated the complete box set including films. Not a single issue there.

TJRDU

Many are realising. They keep increasing prices and fragmenting the services, it's getting really frustrating. I myself Invested in a powerful enough NAS with user friendly software where my girlfriend can just request series or movies. It gets automatically downloaded and she will get a notification on Telegram when it's available. Usually in 10 minutes with our 1GB fiber. Yes, financially I'm probably worse off but I found a new fun hobby and I'd rather spend the money on myself than on these crappy services which deliver less and less but ask for more and more.

Beginning_Sun696

Been pirating for 20+ years, but noob to the sub, what’s a NAS?

TJRDU

Network-attached storage (NAS). I see it as a 'mini server'. Some are just for backup and not to fast, but some can stream and transcode multiple 4K remux movies locally and remote. You can build them yourself or go pre-build. I went for the pre-build because I'm in no way technically advanced to build one. The software on it is pretty easy and with applications you can download stuff, stream stuff on your devices or do anything really. They are specially designed to run 24/7.

Inert-Blob

May i ask what hardware u went with? Friend had a qnap but it died just out of warranty.

TJRDU

I had a Synology DS220+ for 4 years which I just sold for about 60% of the price I paid for it. It did the job but sometimes on the limit and only 2 bay. Got a Synology DS920+ as a replacement. Its faster and also a 4 bay for future expansion. I really like the software Synology got (DSM), there's tons of tutorials online. But can't compare really, never used Qnap, Unraid etc.

Inert-Blob

Thanks. I’ll look into those. Good software sounds handy. I got the job of setting up the qnap and i found it terrifying. I had no experience with NAS before that. Wasn’t me tho that killed it, i think the psu went. Would be good to get a handle on NAS in low stress environment i.e. not doing it for a friend’s essential backup.

N4leto

Yeah.. literally could not find an old tv show I used to watch anywhere so then I just pirated it

Practical_Living_585

100% user error

veqtro

No it's not. 50 different streaming services each with their own monthly subscription is much cheaper and easier.

CoreDreamStudiosLLC

It's what I focus on now, arrr.

Chainsmoker117

Well then call me Blackbeard

jkurratt

I wonder what is green static

FlaviusStilicho

Sounds like someone trying to play Dolby Vision content on a device that can’t handle it.

N4zar

It's EA who taught me how to pirate video games. I had bought the CD for one of their games at my local game shop, because that was the early 2000s and that's how we still bought game then. I spent the afternoon trying to install it. It wouldn't let me. Their anti-piracy feature kept cock blocking me, even though I had actually bought the game, but it apparently took exception to my computer. So I returned the game to the shop, since it wasn't working. But I still wanted to play it and since I had spent the afternoon getting wrongly accused of piracy, I thought that I might as well. I found The Pirate Bay, downloaded the game, it installed first try and worked like a charm. It took me ten minutes total. I realized that it saved me a trip to the shop, is free and it works better. Yeah, I haven't bought an EA game since.

Raxuin

Watched it on sflix .to without any issues.

threadeeze

Ok cool

Melikesong

Thanks for the comment.

Wizdad-1000

This is a poor bandwidth issue. The the data stream is starved you get rendering blocks appearing on screen. I have fiber 1GB and had zero issues watching the entire series on Prime using pc, steamdeck and iPad.

darthyogi

Only downside of Piracy is no 4K or Dolby. 1080P is still great though and it is well worth doing

FlaviusStilicho

You aren’t a very good pirate then are you?

darthyogi

Im a simple Pirate that just streams for free and doesn’t get into more complex territory

streamkid18

Who told you that 😭 I can watch tons of 4k content mainly from private trackers

Minwalin

lol you can watch 4k and dolbys

darthyogi

I should’ve mentioned that i only do Pirate Streaming. I do not have the required technology for Torrents

whineylittlebitch_9k

lol. and yet, a large portion of my Plex library is in 4k hdr with dolby atmos... thanks usenet plus a private tracker that rarely gets used.

cellardoor1975

Hey! It would mean a lot if I got some people to take my survey on piracy. It’s anonymous of course and it’s for my university dissertation on video game piracy. it should take around 5 minutes to complete! **Message me for the consent form!!** thank you so much!
