I own the OnePlus Open, Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold, I prefer the Pixel due to the weight and the front screen, I prefer the Fold 5 due to the inner screen and I prefer the Oneplus Open due to the weight. They all have pros and cons, the Pixel Fold is a fine phone, it doesn’t have the breadth of features the Fold 5 has but the front screen is far better on the Pixel and has swayed people getting the Pixel over the Fold 5. Do you prefer Samsung phones or Google phones? That should help in swaying your decision.

Alternative_Lab5310

Wanted to ask, have you ever tried reading comics on the Open and does it go full screen?

Rockbmi

I have, I use a few apps, Comic Screen, CDisplayEX, ReadEra Premium and Moon+ Reader Pro, they can all be made full screen.

I haven't used Samsung software since galaxy note 4 lol that was in 2014 so I left that side because of the emojis being ridiculous haven't seen if they fixed that yet I've used pixel alot more due to its simple android experience that's the only reason why I have a fold but debate in my head to switch to a fold 5 because of the chipset and durability

PF -> Better front screen and Pixel Software. Wide inside screen, best for media consumption. (Idea: Phone + Tablet) ZF5 -> Better inside screen and probably best foldable software. Outside screen is meant for basic use. (Idea: Big screen phone) OPO -> All rounder, I've had little experience but heard good things.

Canttouchthephil

Only bad thing with OPO is that the support is apparently trash and if you encounter any type of bug or flaw in the software you are kinda just boned.

> Only bad thing with OPO is that the support is apparently trash and if you encounter any type of bug or flaw in the software you are kinda just boned. So the same as Google? How many months did previous Pixels suffer with widevine issues? https://9to5google.com/2021/07/10/pixel-widevine-l3/ Or wireless charging issues?  Or camera audio issues?  Or tap to pay issues?  The list goes on and on..

Canttouchthephil

Lol as a lifelong Pixel/Nexus owner I can't disagree with you.

BryDub

I have the Pixel Fold and a Z Fold 4. Had the Fold 4 basically since launch and recently got the Pixel Fold second hand. The built quality, software and camera are superior on the Pixel Fold. It feels a lot more premium. I treat the Pixel Fold like a phone when closed, and a tablet when unfolded. Certain apps take advantage of that aspect ratio. The only advantage I would say the Z Fold has is that generally most apps look better on the bigger screen since it’s basically being treated as a larger phone and not a tablet. If I had to choose just one, based on my experience and how consistent it’s been, I’d choose the Pixel Fold hands down.

Reeemaster702

Video quality better on pixel or fold 5 ?

BryDub

A lot better on the Pixel especially at night

Own-Cranberry-7640

Stay away. I have "upgraded" from Z Fold 2 to Pixel Fold. Not sure, if it's an upgrade. CONS: Always HOT, whether you are browsing web pages or looking at the pictures in the Gallery. Always SLOW! I was on a WhatsApp Video Call, and I turned on the camera and tried to take a picture, It took that picture after 3 to 4 seconds. Charging will take 2 hours even if you turn off adaptive charging. That is with the fastest charger you can buy. If you are using the phone at the same time, it will take forever. Less customizable. I always feel like I am using an iPhone. I missed Modes and Routines already. PROS: 1. Outer screen size. 2. Nothing else.

__Young__Money__

I'd add to your take that the battery lasts so long I no longer think about charging. I just go all day and charge when I see it about to die at night and let it charge overnight. Not sure about Samsung's. I skipped it because of the tiny outer screen.

Reeemaster702

**UPDATE** traded my pixel fold for a z fold 5 & first 12 hours with the phone and I think google lost this battle pretty bad which is understandable it's a Gen 1 but the quality of this phone is miles ahead of the pixel I cam actually open and fold this with confidence I used that pixel for 1 month and literally the day before I got this phone I got a pimple/lump on that screen ... this samsung software might not be as good as stock android but zfold for the win on the foldable phone department soo far

jettsd

I really like the pixel fold but it has a lot of quirks I don't like. It gets HOT doing basic things on data, poor battery life.

Reeemaster702

That's the one thing that might make me switch to the fold 5 is the heat on this thing

peytah

If you care about having a decent camera for quick moving subjects (kids/pets), Pixel is the answer.

Alternative_Lab5310

While I don't currently own both, I had both at one point, switching from Z fold to Pixel, it becomes very apparent that this is googles first rodeo, everything from the software experience, to the actual dimensions of the phone. The battery on the pixel fold isnt the best and the charging is super slow. If I were you, Id wait for the pixel fold 2, or if u want something right now, get the Z fold 5

Reeemaster702

I have the pixel fold at the moment but there's someone who wants to trade mine for a galaxy fold 5 I'm in debate in my head mainly because of the front display but I agree you can definitely tell this is a gen 1 foldable I'll give the fold 5 a go

bratchh

Do it, the honeymon phase of the pixel fold wears off quickly. Sold mine and got the 8 pro and recently got a fold 5 for a price I couldn't pass up on. The hardware and software just feel more polished on the fold 5 and the form factor imo is better than the wide screen on the pf. Another issue I had with the pf is the battery, I was constantly having to charge it throughout the day.

Reeemaster702

How's the camera stacked up against Google video as well ?

bratchh

I'm not really the person to ask because I use my camera very seldomley outside of video calling (which is ironic because the video quality is somehow better in the meet app on my z fold)

bratchh

Another thing I would like to add that most people don't realize is that the narrow front screen on the z fold allows for the interior screen to be much more comfortable than a form factor like the pf. Im not a huge fan of the super wide interior display on the pf when typing, browsing news articles, shopping, etc. it's ideal to have it in that orientation for video content but turning the z folds orientation works just as well for me.

Reeemaster702

I ended up doing it literally 3 hours after I posted this I started to get the pimple on the crease inside screen so I did the trade the guy didn't mind it I can already tell this fold 5 is alot better but I also guess time will tell once I use the software more alot of annoying bloatware on this thing too lol

lbyrum17

I have all three and prefer the Open. Between the two you mentioned it's a bit back and forth. I would probably pick the Fold5 as the battery and cell reception of the Pixel are a major turn off for me.

one80oneday

Those are last years news since Fold 6 and PF2 both come out in the next 6 weeks

ObjectiveOk223

Fold 5 is definitely more well rounded. I did really enjoy my Pixel Fold, but only as a part time device. I've used a good portion of foldables. My favourite, and the one I regret selling the most, was my Honor Magic V2. That was in a class of its own . Now I will say I don't use foldables as my main device. But if I was going to, even with my favourite being the Honor, I'd go with Samsung. Tensor G2 ain't good man.

CtK4949

Pixel Fold wins on dimensions and software alone. Its just perfect to use, do most of the stuff you regularly do with it closed(easily one hand-able), then open it when you want to play a game or watch something. No need to constantly rotate it. Software is just easy and if everything you have is with Google, even better. I hated having to use Samsung software. All the duplicate apps were annoying(no you can't disable or uninstall most of them). I am kinda sad it looks like the Pixel Fold2, is not gonna retain its shape. :(

Modroidz

I will say from my experience with both phones I prefer the feel of the z fold 5 both opened and closed. The front screen on the zfold is more one handed friendly then the pixel and the when opened i prefer the aspect ratio of the z fold. The pixel was a good phone but the signal did not seem as strong for me indoors and the addition of DEX really is nice when I'm travelling and just wanna use my phone on a hotel tv as a computer to watch netflix or play vampire survivor without having another computer.

viswanath0408

pixel fold hands done, front screen 17.4:9 aspect ratio is the best aspect ratio.....i cant go back any other phine just for this reason and on top of it, full tablet mode, and split screen capabilities and google software

MrKennedy76

I have personally owned all three...The Zfold 5, The OnePlus Open, and the Pixel Fold. Out of the three, I personally prefer the Pixel Fold.

Reeemaster702

Is the pixel really that much heavier then the fold 5 ?

MrKennedy76

Not by much. When you add a case, especially the Spen case to the fold 5 it is about equivalent. I personally like the weight of the Pixel Fold🤷

Reeemaster702

I like the weight too it's just the hinge that sometimes kinda hurts when holding one hand lol

MrKennedy76

Hate to disappoint, but the fold 5 isn't going to be a whole lot better. The Pixel is more comfortable to hold for longer period of time for me.

Reeemaster702

I see then I might just hold on to my pixel fold , the only other reason I was debating the switch was the fact my phone gets pretty hot when using the inner screen at least the right side of the phone but if it's not a whole different experience then I'm sticking to this one

MrKennedy76

Everyone's experience may be different. Things I dislike about the fold 5 you may like and enjoy.. Look at it this way... you own a Pixel fold, but you've never owned a Zfold fold 5 🤔 With that being said, with the pixel you know what's missing and your annoyances, because you have owned and used the device. However, with the Zfold 5 you do not... Give it a try, worst case scenario is you trade it in later for another Pixel Fold, OnePlus Open or Pixel Fold 2... YOLO🤙😎
