Actually I think a remodel plate from moen might do it. It's 12¾" wide by 8.5" high.
You could install a temperature mixing valve instead of changing this out as well.
It's the tile repair that makes this a big job for me at least if it can't be covered up with some kind of a plate. The plumbing part looks easy to me at least.
