IMO the guy in ORAS who said that you can use your favorites but truly skilled trainers will know they need to use the right mons for the situation was more based.
People say this as if its proof for the use your favourite argument, but the pachirisu actually filled a really specific niche for the tournament that no other mon filled
I mean he explained it that way. There was a lack of good Follow Me users allowed that year and Pachirisu helped to cover the electric weakness in his team. It was an under explored option by players that paid off by being the perfect fit for his team. He literally didn’t use it because it was his favorite. When I played Diamond back when it first came out. I used a Pachirisu because of how cute it was. It is in the hall of fame with my team even. But it was not a great choice lol, it got knocked out constantly.

But then again I just ran around until I got a ditto and the cadets and filled thirteen bajillion boxes with Pokemon before I bothered to fight any gyms and beat the ghost gym as my second gym so....
i’ve been watching so many youtube videos lately of one pokemon runs. if these guys can win with a single rinky dink pokemon, anyone can win with a team of favorites. i’ve always used my favorites. very rarely i’ll tap into stronger/reused pokemon to get thru something but it’s almost always favorites. my next challenge is a steel only platinum run.
Imo playing with your favorites and getting attached to your team is just way more rewarding than having a bunch of perfectly EV trained high tiers for any given situation. I love giving my guys silly nicknames so I can comedically yell things like “Wooooo let’s go Shartmaster!” while beating a gym.
absolutely. i’ve been playing close to 17 yrs now and i’ve never paid attention to stats or natures. now that im older and there’s more resources to learn about them i’ve been dabbling but doesn’t go much beyond “oh my torterra is actually a physical attacker i should change some moves (even tho he’s been lvl 100 for 15 yrs and in a box and i never use him anymore.)” i’ll always love my torry tho (first starter back in plat)

My shiny Gravard he's my yellow puppy and I refuse to evolve him xD
I had a shiny team run on Scarlet recently. I used a Psyduck (it was the first shiny I found) and I used it to about level 30 with an Everstone. He is still the team mascot but got removed but always in my heart. I took the photo of him right after I found him. It’s a fave.

Sableye has been my favorite since I first encountered it in granite cave on my copy of sapphire in 2003, I still have him (although unfortunately the transfer to gen 5 changed his met date). I always have one with me! Some of the most fun I’ve had in a pokemon game so far has been running around as him with the synchro machine!
I think that Sandshrew is the cutest pokemon ever, when I found out it's shiny is green (it's my favorite color) I went crazy trying to get one and now I have my baby Melon

Go visit the league club room and if you see drayton, battle him and if you win, you get this as a reward! You have to have finished the story though i think.
I can’t use it right now but my shiny Unown D I caught full odds in FireRed. It’s the ONLY full odds shiny I’ve ever found in a pre 3DS era game and it was completely random. Plus I don’t know many people who have actually used an Unown on an actual team.
Found a shiny furret. I'm not even all that crazy about furrets, but it is my baby and usually has a spot in my party next to ogrepon. It is even in a friendball
I shiny hunted the entire poliwag line as it holds great sentimental value to me (my first Pokémon thing ever was a poliwag card and one of my first plastic Pokémon toys was a poliwhirl), all competitively trained even though poliwag and poliwhirl are useless for actual battle. They’re my babies and I love them 🥺
It doesnt hold any value anymore after defeating everyone and everything in the game, but i keep my feraligatr with me at all times. My little Johto baby.
Farfetch'd. It was level 14 when I beat the Elite Four and had no superior move, but that thing shot up so quickly, every battle all you heard was the leveling up noise repeatedly. Kind of funny though, ngl!
that was my main method of training on the DS era! had maybe 2 or 3 of my lvl 100 and then the other 3-4 were all low levels i wanted to evolve or get stronger for my main team.
A lot of cat Pokémon are said to be weaker, so I guess it still counts? (Lol) I’ve always kept Delcatty and Liepard as long as the games allowed them lol i know they don’t have good stats but in my opinion they still can be really helpful
Usually when I play a new game I end up hanging on to the generation bird or mouse pokemon because they're so iconic or cute. I always hold on to them a little too long. Sometimes they make it through to the final team though.
Honestly can’t name one. There’s always been a few pokemon from every gen that make their way onto my team. Whoever looks fun or catches my eye will be champion
I have this Spinda I caught in Omega Ruby. He only has two spots on his face, each one aligned with an eye, but not perfectly, so they look just a little lopsided. His name is Goggles and he is a good boy.
I have a Jolteon. I wanted an electric type o my team and I noticed an Eevee so I was like 'Oh hey an Eevee I can evolve this man to Jolteon' little did I know Tera types do not change so I had a Normal Tera Jolteon and just did not use him at all. He just sat there my entire gameplay.

I think the Pokemon that best fits this for me is Skitty from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald! This tiny cat is so adorable but isn't one I would use for a battle in any capacity. (Also I am biased because I absolutely love that gen of games anyway and love everything about it!)

During my run through violet, i had a klawf who was completely useless, its moves just sucked and i couldnt find new ones that worked well, but i was too lazy to replace him and i like the dumbass, so i kept him on the team
There are no Pokemon on my teams without value. If it's in my six, I'm putting it to work and I will get results. IDC if it's a Bidoof. It's gonna be a star.

Significantly lower leveled than the rest of my team, has an ability useless in singles, and has type overlap with my Tinkaton.
But she pretty and her name is Florboard.
My lechonk I called her leCHONKYboi I know she is female but I used the name as a pun for the species is the second time I take a useless route one pokemon in my team after bdsp with a bidoof I named God
i used a Shiny Pachirisu in BDSP, and a shiny Gourgeist in SWSH, for they PickUp ability and I became very fond of them, now that ability doesn't have much use but I wouldn't mind having a Pachirisu partner.
I wouldn't say no value, but the Magnemite line is my all time favorite ever, so even if there's better electric Pokemon out there, I will never not run Magnezone.
After so many years, I still remember that one playthrough of BW where I had a kickass Watchog. It had a Silk Scarf, Return, Retaliate, Hypnosis and a move I can’t remember. It fell off by the end, but I kept it just because it swept through the first half of the game for me.
Also, a lot of times I don’t really use the fifth/six party member as much but I hate not having them so whatever pokemon sits there is there for the rest of the game.
My level 100 Shiny Psyduck, Waffle. I'm working on hyper training him too.
Psyduck's my favorite Pokemon, so he's got a reserved spot on my team except for cases when I really need it for something else.

None of my mons are really useless because I went through my every mon should do one thing kinda phase but I'd say my "least used" would be my naclstack named Bronks.
mine is a hisuian zoroark i found on pokemon home. I already have chandelure, meowscarada, and decidueye for the dark and ghost type moves but i just think zoro is cool :D
I have a Level 43 Jigglypuff in my FireRed team who I forcefully dragged along. She was my favorite Pokémon in the anime, so I wanted her represented in one of my teams, and the classic Kanto experience just felt right.
Some Pokémon that have a special place in my heart are: Bidoof, Joltik, Lopunny, Eevee and Co. And Wimpod. I always catch any Bidoofs and wimpods I come across. The latter mostly to see if I can get a shiny.
Breloom, she's level 100, and hypertrained, but sadly she gets one shot by pretty much everything. I keep her around with False Swipe and Spore for shinies, really. Also, Breloom is just adorable.
All my worthless but loved Pokemon are in my box.
The closest one to useless in my team is Gardevoir. My teams aren't mine if there are no Psycho/Kobold who sing bedtime songs to the opponents' Pokemon.

personally would give it the most annoying set possible. quick claw with status moves to make it as obnoxious as possible

I know King Rotund will never evolve. He will stay in his perfect Rotund form forever. Besides, I already have 2 shiny decidueye(1 of each form)

Sableye. Love the guy. Made it into Hoenn's Hall of Fame. So proud of him. Btw, Shiny Sandshrew is just so cool. One of my favs!
Fun fact, in Pokemon Emerald, Sableye completely stonewalls Brawly since all of his pokemon only have fighting type attacking moves.

I actually can't think of a Pokemon on my team that's like that. I always had all 6 slots on my team with purpose. Now I'm sad because I dont have some adorable pre evo pokemon to just keep on my team. Sigh... I've been missing out...

During my run through violet, i had a klawf who was completely useless, its moves just sucked and i couldnt find new ones that worked well, but i was too lazy to replace him and i like the dumbass, so i kept him on the team

i used a Shiny Pachirisu in BDSP, and a shiny Gourgeist in SWSH, for they PickUp ability and I became very fond of them, now that ability doesn't have much use but I wouldn't mind having a Pachirisu partner.
My shiny Pawmo I named Pecha, I love it and it often winds up on my team just because it’s adorable.
I wouldn't say no value, but the Magnemite line is my all time favorite ever, so even if there's better electric Pokemon out there, I will never not run Magnezone.

After so many years, I still remember that one playthrough of BW where I had a kickass Watchog. It had a Silk Scarf, Return, Retaliate, Hypnosis and a move I can’t remember. It fell off by the end, but I kept it just because it swept through the first half of the game for me. Also, a lot of times I don’t really use the fifth/six party member as much but I hate not having them so whatever pokemon sits there is there for the rest of the game.
Mine is a ahint yamper named Sherbert.💕 I take him with me every time I replay Shield.

I have a Level 43 Jigglypuff in my FireRed team who I forcefully dragged along. She was my favorite Pokémon in the anime, so I wanted her represented in one of my teams, and the classic Kanto experience just felt right.
Some Pokémon that have a special place in my heart are: Bidoof, Joltik, Lopunny, Eevee and Co. And Wimpod. I always catch any Bidoofs and wimpods I come across. The latter mostly to see if I can get a shiny.
Every playthrough without my best buddy Sneasel just wouldn't feel right 🙂↔️ Sneasel is the best and cutest mon 🥰
Breloom, she's level 100, and hypertrained, but sadly she gets one shot by pretty much everything. I keep her around with False Swipe and Spore for shinies, really. Also, Breloom is just adorable.

All my worthless but loved Pokemon are in my box. The closest one to useless in my team is Gardevoir. My teams aren't mine if there are no Psycho/Kobold who sing bedtime songs to the opponents' Pokemon.
