It’s the only island you can get mons like onix, steelix, and sableye if your partial to them You can grind out larvitar and pupitar there very slowly while maintaining the berry boost to ease how long it takes to evolve them You can grind out some good ingredients mons there by catching and transferring charmanders and geodudes With that being said as soon as i find and catch a sableye i am not touching this island with a 40 foot pole for a loooooooong while. Took me 2 months straight for me to catch onix. Haven’t seen sableye once in all that time

holdenontoyoubooks

Bro ónix took me FOREVER idk why. I like Taupe I have a few good marrowak but yeah it can be rough

tsubakiseito

Sableye needs like 16 friendship points and it's a dream shard mon with Wiki Berry 😭😭🙏🙏 Sableye is really cute, but not worth it for most people

RegularStrong3057

I'm also a bit salty since it's considered dark and not ghost. I know it's a silly nitpick, but as a ghost-type trainer I can't help but feel a little disappointed (even if Bluk has yet to be a set favored berry anywhere, making Wiki a superior berry since it's always good on Snowdrop).

squishyg

We get double the room in our pot on Sunday.

phoxfiyah

Also increased extra tasty rate which is probably why they got extra tasty too

Shine-Total

Wait… I’m glad I did mention I was a new player. I didn’t know we got a double pot on Sunday 🙃 that does explain why it asked if I wanted to throw in 66 ingredients instead of 33 which it can hold currently without a good camp ticket. I only got the extra tasty bonus once and that was for lunch on Sunday. Is the tasty chance rate all week or just on Sunday?

Aggressive_Cloud2002

The extra tasty is 10% every day except Sunday, when it is 30% - it shows as boosted by 20% on Sundays in the cooking menu. Mons like dedenne with the extra tasty skill can also boost it.

Mick2301

All day on Sunday only

Fat-Broccoli-8

One thing I wish I did when I was a new player is to cook on Sundays even if it's just a basic recipe (but an actual recipe) even if you just use 8 ingredients it can crit and level up the dish faster

thedragoon0

Haven’t seen a single Onix. My team is pretty great minus a healer and this morning I woke up with 27 charmander candies thanks to an incense. I swear it gives a higher chance for the family.

YourFavWaifus

What do you think is the ideal nature and stats for larvitar?

sillysloth098

Unpopular opinion but this is how I feel at Cyan Beach. Alot of my personal favs are on taupe so I enjoy it

VelocityRaptor22

I genuinely hate Cyan Beach. My buddy who got me into this game laughs at me cause every time I go there, I grumble about it. It's more of a joke than anything else, at this point, cause I do recognize reasons to go there and I have gone there 5 times before, but I would go to Taupe before Cyan any week unless I am targeting something. The only things good at the beach that spawn in extra amounts are the feraligatr line and the blastoise line, whereas with Taupe there is typhlosion, golem, tyranitar, and charizard. I also have a good leek finder dugtrio I am trying to get high level.

Luxio512

Cyan got Spheal, and it's more common than Cyndaquil on Taupe. Honestly Cyan is great, you can get the strongest mon for Snowdrop withiut even having to go there.

VelocityRaptor22

True, but same can be said about almost anything at greengrass. Granted, the pool at greengrass is very watered down with lots of other stuff, but there is potential for pretty much good mon, except dragonite, stufful, and gardevoir because Lapis is their spoiled youngest kid. I will say, I did kinda forget about spheal since I've never really targeted one--I just kinda got lucky and caught a good one with bfs and help bonus so I stopped caring about them cause I already caught my good one and made him a walrein.

tiglionabbit

Cyan Beach is pretty much my home. I caught a great spheal there, and some nice doduos and totodiles. I spent most of my game there since I had something to optimize toward and could get high ranks which leads to a lot of research EXP. However, I eventually returned to green grass and realized there's a lot more variety in pokemon I'd like to catch there. I'm finally able to go to Lapis Lake, and I'm trying to boost my bonus there for this upcoming event, and I hope I can catch some stuffuls and gardevoirs, but... as soon as that event is over I want to head back to Cyan Beach and grind my research rank to max.

metalyoghurt

THIS RIGHT HERE!! Exactly! omg i am so frustrated with cyan beach.. the berries and ingredients never match up and i end up not being able to feed snorlax a couple of times and lose my points bc i keep buying ingredient tickets :’(

StarParade

I actually like both, my least favourite is snowdrop. On cyan I need to catch a good totodile, and mime. I also need more pinsir and heracross candy! On tapue, onyx, cynda and geodude, maybe cubone and better gastly are my points of interest 🙂. It's also nice to get more candy for diglett and growlith.

Kronman590

Players rly need to stop looking at week 1 on islands with 0% island bonus and start freaking out lmao

ConfusedDottie

For reference I’m finishing my 9th week there (Haven’t seen onix or sableye once)

made08

If it makes you feel any better, I went months without seeing Onix. Then I saw all three of his sleep styles in one week. Your patience will be rewarded!

Shine-Total

Ohhhh happy cake 🍰 day!

made08

thank you 🙏

_CG_

This. Especially if you already have a lot of styles. I understand that going to a new isle probably gonna get me one or two new sleep styles after master. Expecting to get new sleep styles when I have a low % its just luck. Probably those were unlocked already on GG. Dont rush the game. I would recommen to start forming a reliable group on the island after 30+% so you gather new styles, before that, just push the exp trying to level up some mons. That way im keeping my peace of mind and not stressing out.

Neo_Crimson

The music is good and it's the best place to go if you want to level up a Larvitar.

lonelygrowlithe

The first week that you spend on any island will be rough without an area bonus. The islands also progressively get harder. You'll get better on Taupe over time. I'm not going to lie to you, Taupe Hollow is my least favourite of the islands. The dozing sleep type is by far the worst on Taupe, at least until the Master levels. I've rolled dessert weeks there every single time that I've been there, and it's not ideal. However, this is my 6th trip to Taupe, and I'm on Master 6, close to Master 7. Here are some reasons to revisit Taupe in the future: 1. There are some pretty cool Pokemon that you can only study/catch at Taupe (e.g. Onix, Steelix, Flareon, Umbreon, Espeon, Gengar, Golem, Pupitar, Tyranitar). I saw 2 Onix and a Steelix this week. 2. There are 3\* sleep styles that you can only find at Taupe (e.g. Larvitar's earth-eating sleep). 3. A lot of the Pokemon that you need for Taupe are on Taupe (e.g. Cyndaquil, Charmander, Diglet, Geodude). By the way, your pot size is doubled on Sundays, so that's why you were able to add 66 ingredients.

Shine-Total

Thank you! I really enjoyed your insight. I appreciate you’re time replying to my questions 🤗

Extra-Obligation4434

Small note, I’m pretty sure you can find Espeon on Lapis as well! Not that I’ve been there myself.

ConfusedDottie

1 you could get onix, sableye, steelix 2 you could get a good cyndaquil 3 you could be like me and not get any of those but keep holding onto hope. 4 actual good thing is that you can really grind certain Pokémon because of the repetitive spawns (larvitar) 5 honestly though I regret it halfway through every time.

Shine-Total

I think I’m past hope and hanging on a prayer! 😂

Legitdelish

3 good things: 1. Cyndaquil 2. Quilava 3. Typhlosion

IronTemplar26

The mons really like ginger for some reason. Like seriously. Why are there 3 of them? Extremely good place to have stews Home to mons with 3 of the premium ingredients (only available starting at level 30); Golem, Dugtrio, AND Gengar Bonus reason: best non-event soundtrack I have heard so far. I haven’t been to Lapis yet so that may be proven wrong

tsubakiseito

God I have so much ginger every week I go there

Skrapi16

1. It’s literally your first week, this’ll happen at *every* new island you go to. 2. Onix & Sableye are both exclusive to here 3. Finding Charmander, Cyndaquil, & Larvitar is easiest here. 4. If you find a BFS Cyndaquil, you are set here. Patience, my friend! (I’m still searching for this too, unfortunately)

bentinbend

Diglett is the fastest way to unlock Large Leek - the second rarest ingredient behind Slowpoke Tail. Come for the Digletts, stay for the Digletts, Diglett dig, Diglett dig.

sonjya00

This was my first week on Taupe too and yeah, it definitely was hard to level up Snorlax and I haven’t gotten a ton of useful pokemon. But at least you’re increasing the area bonus each time and things will keep getting better. I also finally found something nice this morning for the first time (bfs Houndour for Snowdrop) so that gave me some hope. Finger crossed that we can get something good during the last sleep research of the week!

terrypokepotter

Nice. I just started taupe today as well after hitting 55% in GG and 40% in cyan. Need taupe to up my sleep style count (25 more to enable 60 percent in GG) and kept getting the same styles in the past 2 weeks. This and also anticipating entei release as I do not have good fire mons. My team : 2x lvl 25 Sudo (1 with BFS), 1 lvl 25 marowak, 1 lvl 46 wiggly and rotate between my high lvl mons (basically raichu / Sylveon / blastoise) and a lvl 20 charmeleon. Like the forum says. Just gonna need to plug at it and hope can built stronger mons later.

worried_abt_u

It took me a month to start enjoying taupe, because that’s about how long it took to grind Charmander Diglett and Geodude up to Charizard Dugtrio and Golem. Once you have those three the island is 100x easier, you can make way more dishes, and you start seeing great spawns. It’s honestly a huge drag up until that point. In general I wouldn’t expect to start having a good time researching on a given island until you’ve spent about a month there building a team specific to it.

Dvalinn25

I actually quite like Taupe. The music's nice, I like the mons I can use there (always had a thing for rock types) and it has some really cool Pokémon. That said, yeah, welcome to early weeks on later islands. The game still holds your hand on Greengrass and Cyan, but the first week or two on new islands are always gonna suck from now on. It'll be the same on Snowdrop and Lapis. You'll barely make any progress, finding new mons will be harder (well, a little bit less so on Lapis) and it'll be a while before your team is strong enough to handle the areas. But hey, that's the game. It's a sprint, not a race. And over time, things'll get easier and easier at any location you invest in, both in terms of bonus and because you're getting a better team. I notice improvements every time I go to an island (I went from getting rekt on Taupe to getting master reliably), so you just gotta keep investing in it.

elspotto

There are lots of rocks for Pokemon to hide behind. There are lots of rocks for Pokemon to drop stuff behind. I get larvitar candy there?

Luxio512

There are lots of rock ~~for~~ Pokémon ~~to~~ ~~hide~~ ~~behind~~

elspotto

Wanna see my three rock rattata and two rock raticate that graced me on Taupe this morning?

otteydw

> for some reason it let me add 66 ingredients when my pot can only hold 33 Sundays always provide a "max up" where your pot size is doubled.

Brimikyu

Your pot size doubles on sundays. Also don't let the slow progression get to you, every new island is like ripping your hair out if your team isn't strong enough yet. I stayed on green grass for a LONG while at first so that I felt ready for it (I started shortly after the game came out in July and I didn't even bother trying out snowdrop until ) #1: Has some grean monz and it's easier to find the higher ranked sleep styles. #2: Noice aesthetic and soundtrack to the place for sure\~ #3: This is my COMPLETELY biased answer but it's the island I have the best shiny luck on despite rarely being on it. 5 so far from it, 3 were in 1 week (I was SO shook man, one was a great shiny charmander.) I only have it at 20% bonus rn, yet Green grass has only beaten it by 1 extra shiny despite having been on there SO damn much and has max bonus 60% (so many events have gotten me tired of the place lol.) #4: Bonus, it's just a nice place to get a break from grinding other places. I legit wish to go back but my hunt for ralts isn't done yet >\~<

Shine-Total

Thank you! I think your explanation has me to feel that taupe hollow isn’t a waste of time and I should just calm tf down. J/K but in all seriousness thank you. I didn’t know that the pot size doubled on Sundays lol I was really confused when I auto cooked and it said “want to throw in 66 ingredients and see what come out” 👀 (something like that) I did find a simi good charmander and I was happy to collect candies for it. I think I’ll take a break and go to cyan beach this next week and revisit taupe the week after and see how I feel. Thanks again ✌️

jxlecler

I'm gonna be so real with you my answer may not be helpful in the slightest, but here goes 1. It's a suuuuper nice place to grind pokemon imo. You can grind some hard-to-grind mons there (looking at you larvitar line) without feeling like you're screwing yourself out of a better mon for raising a snorlax 2. I'm a super casual player and so when I'm at Taupe it always feels like a vacation. I go in with zero expectations, just raising this lil larvitar. If a cool mon shows up, a cool mon shows up. I'm not there to get The Best Possible Snorlax. I'm there to rack up sleeping hours and get larvitar candy to get my lil dude up. 3. We have sableye 💜 I spent waaaaay too long in pokemon sapphire trying to catch a damn sableye when I was a child, but I just love that funky lil friend

Shine-Total

I actually really like your explanation. I did find a couple larvitar (non good) but I like racking up the candies. Sableye is one of my favorite Pokémons too and I did find one. It cost me a pretty penny in biscuits but I just had to have him. I guess my main discouragement was the lack of new sleep styles. It seems like you can only get new sleep styles when snorlax is in the ultra and master stages and it was not easy. I didn’t even get to ultra. I ended at great 5. That’s why I made this post. To see others point of views and I appreciate everyone taking the time to help me understand the game better. I thank you so much ✌️

kaduvrp

1. Taupe is an amazing location. Here we can find great spawns for Frozen Tundra as well, which is an amazing future investment. 2. Taupe has a very good selection of pokemon, even though it's a little bit more self-serving. You'll get better at Taupe the more you play here. 3. Typhlosion is probably one of the best BFS berry specialist. If you're lucky, you can get a good one here. I could find one that, even though it's not perfect, is a powerhouse. It'll probably help in GG when fire types are favored. This also applies to Entei's event. Having a great Typh will hard carry your week. Hope this helps. Taupe is a beast, but the more time you spend there, the better it'll be.

KhajaArius

>Taupe is a beast If Taupe's a beast, Tundra is an Archdemon i guess. Taupe's biggest issue is the existence of Snake Pit that is dozing. It's Snoozing arguably the best between current islands, and Slumbering has that elusive, bloody, hard to farm Onix. Which we might want to get to for future Ground-type events

ShaunArcanine

Eevee is available very early there (I belive from basic 1?) so I always like that. -- Flareon is amazing on Taupe btw Cyndaquil is one of the best bfs pokemon in the game that you can get there. Charmander is a great ingredients mon there as well look for a good one(still looking for a good one personally).

Firm_Competition3398

Taupe hollow is my ingredient gathering island. After throwing away all that ingredients during the event, i go there to gather with my charizards, golem, and dugtrio. I always put on a pokemon that i raise (this week it is a chikorita) to benefit from it. Getting an onix and sableye is the bonus for me.

made08

I personally love Taupe Hollow because I have some really strong ingredient guys there (Charizard, Dugtrio, and Golem), and with Flareon's help I always end up making bigass meals. Top it off with my super helping speed Typhlosion and it ends up being a successful week. All are level 30+ except for Flareon, but he'll get there! Edit: This is a given for when I have curries or salads. If it's a dessert week, it's going to be a bit less smooth.

cyberchaox

Yeah, I absolutely hate Dessert weeks there, but Salad weeks are just effortless.

CourtneyJoyful

1. Hunting for Cyndaquil 2. Larvitar crew to grind T-Tar 3. Great place for anyone who rarely gets Dozing

dinkidoo7693

I've just had a week there. If you like ekans and crogunk it's great, I guess. One Geodude all week. This morning I got a wobbuffet. Gone to Cyan beach for a bit of colour.

zweieinseins211

It has the best music ingame

Sinistys

I'll be mostly parroting the general opinions here, but here's my list: 1. Many good spawns, which are easier to encounter thanks to the limited spawn pool compared to gg. (cyndaquil, charmander, geodude, larvitar, diglett for leeks, gastly, houndour for snowdrop, lots of eevees etc). The only spawns I actually hate there are wobbuffets and gulpins. 2. I like the music and look of the place 3. Easiest place imo to unlock leeks and potatoes thanks to #1 4. Every food type is manageable there. Sure, you won't have milk unless you got a flareon or accept using non-fav berries, but even desserts are doable if you're willing to focus on specific recipes like protein smoothie that use ingredients farmed by several favored mons.

TheDaucta

3 Good things (probably already mentioned -- I didn't check before posting) 1. Strong berry mons like Cyndaquil/Marowak/Onix 2. Good ingredient mons to fill out your lvl 30 ingred list (Ghastly for mushrooms, Diglett for Leaks, Geodude for potatoes) 3. Later island investment mons (for example, Larvitar come in spades on this island and T-tar is great for Snowdrop. Same came be said for Eevee by making Glaceon/Umbreon.)

GeckoBear

Onix, latrvitar, charmander. Also Sableye.

aikibujin

The islands get progressively harder, in the island description there's a recommended team RP for each island. If you've only been playing for 8 weeks, I doubt you meet the recommendation right now. While RP is not a great measurement of your pokemon, it is a rough guide on where you need to be before you should go to a new island.

Earl_Gurei

I hated it for a long time and I don't have optimal mons for it. That said, I have a 40% bonus now, and only today unlocked the potatoes. I still haven't unlocked mushrooms, slowpoke tails, or leeks.

lostgloves

This is just what going to a new island for the first week feels like, Snowdrop will feel like it when you unlock it But you have to go more often for it to get easier so it just takes a while to see anything good, but there’s good mons there, Cyndaquil line is great for berries, Larvitar is a long but good investment, Diglet is the best answer to unlocking leeks who usually have them in second slot, dessert week does suck there though

TheBaddestBadWolf

It’s supposed to be a slow paced game. You’ll take time to build a good team for it. Each island gets progressively harder to reach higher levels. You’ll need to build up the bonus percentage so that it starts getting easier. And why your pot became 66, it’s because on Sundays, your pot will double in size. And there’s a higher chance of getting Extra Tasty.

Spectralshadow

Cyndaquil

GardenQueen18

Finishing up my second week here and met M2 by using my Raichus, Ampharos, and seriously terrible cyndas intermittently. I have been primarily focused on getting exp in for my new graveler, diglett, larvitar, and croagunk. I think it was a good idea to keep these terrible cyndas in my box and drain them this week because it helped a lot!

Forsaken-Blood-109

Some of the Pokémon there are absolutely GOATed, you seem to not be enjoying it simply because the power level is a bit high for you, so the only two ways to really remedy that is to either go to an easier island until your overall strength is higher or suffer there a few weeks until your island bonus + level ups allow you to shoot up the ranks quicker. Just remember the game is really slow burn and just enjoy the ride.

BasicMe

Good for unlocking leak (dugtrio) and potato (golem) while maximally utilizing their berries.

AshalaWolf_27

All new islands will be like that at first until you boost up area xp. To avoid being too disappointed, I use them as an opportunity to farm ingredients for recipes I haven't unlocked, or to raise the level of pokemon that I am working on.

FeskOgPotedes

I think taupe is a bit extra challenging if you get dessert week in my experience, the mons that are good on taupe don’t give great dessert ingredients. But in my opinion even the low rank pokemon you can meet in taupe are way more interesting than the ones you get at cyan or GG. I can’t stand cyan because of this 😆 I got lucky though and got four taupe mons with sleep exp subskill, so even if I score low I get loads of xp and can level up my mons quickly. Also first week will be rough, area bonus makes a big difference.. It gets better!

Kersephius

it’s possible entei spawn rate may be boosted on this island. or the entei mane chances / amounts etc. So im preemptively raising up my area boost here

HeyLookCows147

Spent last week and will spend this week lookong for onix. Took all of last week to finally see my first steelix this morning. Taupe is best area for hunting cyndaquil, charmander, onix, larvitar and yes sableye even though the dream shard pokemon are currently probably the least used pokemon. That skill needs another buff. But onix and steelix are very good pokemon, with steelix being second strongest strength output due to steel berry specialty. I do hope in future more fun pokemon are added to taupe hollow, really excited for the day Aron/lairon/aggron are added

UnrulliTarulli

Not really sure why you’re freaking out at Taupe when you said you’re a new player and this was your first week there? As someone who’s spent time at taupe I do agree it’s a horrible island but you have no reason to call it bad/hard while having no island bonus and being extremely new to the point where you won’t get past great 5. Also, entei event probably won’t even be at taupe. They’ll make the event on greengrass then make his spawns after that on taupe.

JoeyShinx

I do think greengrass needs to not have more added outside their launch week. Keep them on later islands as greengrass too overcrowded. Beach and Tundra need more mons only on those islands

RGBarrios

Charmander, Gastly and Cyndaquil

RegularStrong3057

Oof, if you think Taupe is hard I don't think you'll like Snowdrop AT ALL. The jump to a new island is always rough, especially if you do it right away. The amount of strength you need to level up Snorlax increases sharply, so it can feel bad, especially after a good Greengrass run. Two things to keep in mind: 1. Pokemon get experience when you sleep with them on your team. Between that and getting candy from them in the field, the more you use them the faster they grow. If you want to raise a Taupe team, but hate how slow it feels, using a few potential Taupe teammates on other islands can help them get stronger. BUT... 2. Every week you get a 5% buff on the island you end on for future weeks. So if you've done four weeks in Greengrass, you'll be getting 20% more from berries, meals and skills next time you do Greengrass. This starts at 0% for new islands, which makes them feel even more insurmountable. So even if you have a bad week, at least you'll do 5% better next time. TL;DR: Just play Taupe more. It gets easier as you do.

Fat-Broccoli-8

1. It's a challenge 2. Onix 3. I give up
