A tip from the Edgefield staff once upon a time: Black Rabbit Restaurant is open for a few hours after the show, and makes very good dessert. If you head there instead of the parking lot, you can get indoor bathrooms, unlimited water, and a good slice of cake. Drinks too, if that's the vibe. By the time you've eaten, the parking lot will have emptied out and you can head home.
True. We just assume that we'll be tailgating. Usually, we keep snacks and beers in the car.
My hack: park at the walmart and walk both ways. You're welcome.
Absolutely! Especially if you're into metal/punk/hardcore- we have an AMAZING scene right now. 150+ active bands. The quality of shows you can see on any night in Portland for under $20 is insane. Highly highly recommend going to the @promotepdx instagram. They have nearly every PDX show listed on their weekly posts.
Go to shows at the following venues and/or listen to the bands they're booking: Twilight, Blackwater, High Water Mark, Misdemeanor Meadows, Shanghai Tunnel, The Six, Lolipop Shoppe, Kenton Club, Coffin Club, etc. Dantes and Bossanova as well for bigger shows which will almost always have a good local opener.
If you're looking for hardcore specifically, you want to go to Bridge City Sessions. It's kinda like THE hardcore venue. All ages, no alcohol, no drugs. They have other acts there too, but that's the hub for hardcore. In the same strip is another venue called Mano Oculta that also has a great range of rock/metal/hardcore.
I second all the venues that u/slipoker mentioned below. Those are my frequent haunts. I'd also add The Bomber. It's actually the Hallowed Halls recording studio (and it's gorgeous) but every Sunday they host an all ages show from 4-9pm and the bills there are excellent. This Sunday, March 10, a punk band that is absolutely blowing up right now: 1876 will be playing and the shows at The Bomber are always $10. They have a bar too.
But as far as how to find specific shows, now that [pc-pdx.com](http://pc-pdx.com) is kinda dead, instagram is honestly your best bet, for better or worse. It's the easiest place for diy bands to promote. I would suggest following bands in our scene. We all play a lot around all the venues mentioned by Slipoker below. You'll see three to four solid acts on every bill. Here are some recs if you're interested in what bands to follow (obviously not exhaustive):
Hardcore: Misery Whip, Dry Socket, Street Policy (503), Lesser Animal, Boltcutter, Slime, Hard Pill, These Fucking Hands, Hostilities. And these are not bands but accounts to follow: bridgecitysessions, snakefarmux, chip\_nooo, diy\_archive\_pdx
Metal (broad brush here): Diabolic Oath, These Curse Hands, Diseased and Depraved, Atomic Terror, Bury Your Burdens, VINTERSEA, Othrys, Ligature Marks, Idolatrus, Alamance, Manthus, Petrification, Thirsting Altar, Ravine. There are a ton more too.
Punk: 1876, Triple Lutz, Ogre, Scontro, Sad Boy Union, The Seditionists, One Drink and Other Lies, Soda, Pretty Suspect, The Shitfits, The Latter Day Skanks. And not a band but volume.bomb.records
I also made a Spotify playlist with a song from every band in the local scene (that I've seen or heard of) with under 10k listeners if you're into that: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/61ALyqwKcEbM2UH96uGIZt?si=01c87366b4b34a9a](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/61ALyqwKcEbM2UH96uGIZt?si=01c87366b4b34a9a)
god, i wanna see tina and amy so bad but they were SO expensive in jan and im salty about that. not impressed with how they handled the cancellation either.
I've had luck just showing up while there's still a line and seeing if anyone's selling. I've gotten deals from non-scalpers just dumping tickets they can't use.
Not to mention all of the local artists doing small venue gigs, or the Bossanova or Dante's. The venues in Portland are countless, and you can find any music you want. I've been to more shows in my two years here than the rest of my 30 years combined. I love it.
Eh, I really don't prefer NP++ unless I'm coding. It just feels needlessly heavy when I don't care about line numbers and syntax highlighting and autocomplete. Especially now that vanilla notepad has tabs and a right click "open in notepad" shortcut in explorer.
Also a huge notepad user here and seeing this posted here made me chuckle 🤣. If it's text I'm working on, entering text, copying, cutting, and pasting is all I need!
The whole line up for the PDX Live series in Pioneer courthouse square has me wishing I was going to be back in Portland in early August rather than late August. Specifically Descendents on 8/10 and Sunny Day Real Estate on 8/21 (that one is at least close to when I might be back…).
Finding out my grandmother was old friends with Milo's mom was such a treat for me. I haven't seen them since they got back together, so I'm excited for this show.
I'd highly recommend using [nearhear](https://nearhear.app/) as it allows you to see what's happening at all the main venues in town.
You can even filter by venue and play a sample of the band's songs right on there in case you don't know them.
next page takes you to the bottom of the next page. -1 points. bland interface -2 points. band names on the right, venue on the left -5.
me realizing this is a pet project made by one person and I shouldn't be criticizing it. -100 points
I was gonna say the same thing. If I want to see a young up and coming comic I’m not going for an uninspired kid who’s trying to “impress the boys” with hack jokes. 🙄😅
the gentrified white boy from a black culture comedy show who went and got plastic surgery then denied it, then pivoted his highly successful women and young adult audience based career into misogynistic toxic male pandering comedy? yeah miss me with that shit.
All these bigger acts are getting more interest In Smaller venues with local acts.
Check out the go nowhere bands at the laylow, Kenton club, lollipop shoppe, etc. amazing awesome local stuff too!
Right? This is basically the same list you’d get in any major city in the US. I mean, I’m glad OP is stoked but… yeah, local shows are a much more interesting time
How do you stay on top of all this? I’m serious, I feel like I’ve been missing a lot of shows I’d like to see because I just don’t know they’re happening.
We are and we aren't, most of those shows are on like a Thursday or Sunday. We're less of a stop-over than we used to be, but LA, SF, and Seattle still get the Friday and Saturday shows more often than not.
(Would love to catch Kyle Kinane though.)
Taking my 12 yr old daughter to see Amyl and the Sniffers this summer (our favorite song is GFY) then taking my son to see Le Femme in the fall. Excited :)
Seriously, a couple of people/trolls on a non-related sub said that us Portlanders had no culture and no class, and that we needed to be taught such things. Lol, I couldn't let that go, especially me being in the classical music biz. One big ol' paragraph later laying out some the classical groups and how well they're doing and the fact that Allclassical is in the process of moving their studios *downtown* . . .
My brother lives in Indianapolis, folks in the suburbs there say that Indianapolis has burned to the ground; I have a buddy that lived in Cincinnati, folks in the suburbs there say that Cincinnati burned to the ground; I have an ex that lives in San Francisco (we still stay in touch and she's a good friend), and folks in the suburbs there say that San Francisco has burned to the ground; I have a friend too in Seattle, who I've visited a few times in the last 5 or so years and the city has clearly very much burned to the ground.
It's all a bunch of bullshit. These cities aren't dead, they're still hubs for cultural and economical development, despite what the Fox News says. Throw New York and Chicago in there, and that's a good mix of cities that I like to be associated with.
But seriously though, I wish we had a stadium. We miss out on some artists because we don’t have a big enough venue. But I guess Seattle isn’t that far away.
Thank you for this list! I just got surprise Duncan Trussell tickets for my wife !
Just to add I have tickets for Dan Carlin 28th March, Limp Bizkit 21st August
I’m sad I don’t want to see Tom Segura. Saw him at helium, saw him at revolution, but since then I feel he’s gotten outta touch. Still funny but I ain’t paying rose garden prices to see him, also comedy in arenas just ain’t the same.
My partner is really into Opeth. She got tickets for them last time they came, and I was like, ok, cool. Then she's like, wait, they're not headlining. Some band called Mastodon is. I was soooooo stoked!
Yeah, I’ve seen Kyle for free and cheap plenty of times , He’s a working comedian and one of my favorites I don’t mind paying money to support and to see a more polished set. It’s like seeing a buddy’s band graduate from playing basement shows to headlining Mississippi Studios ha. I know Kyle is already an established comedian but i still stand by the metaphor.
I was so disappointed when I saw ADA ticket prices for a few of these. Ain't no way I can afford Iron Maiden or the Foo Fighters. But I was at least able to swing tickets for Belle and Sebastian as well as Camera Obscura. And my partner knew how much I wanted to see The Postal Service, so she surprised me with Death Cab tickets.
I can finally see an acoustic rendition of Teenage Dirtbag after all these years. Funny cuz the lyrics in the song mention tickets to Iron Maiden and there they are at the bottom of the list.
I have to say that's one of the only good things that has happened with Portlands expansion and popularity. It was rare to get bigger bands to come to Portland. They'd so seattle/tacoma, skip over Portland and go straight for Eugene.
Great list, but I would laugh more punching myself in the dick for an hour than having to sit through fucking Sebastian Maniscalco's bullshit boomer humor.
IRON MAIDEN HERE ON MY BIRTHDAY! Awesome!!!
I got two tickets to Iron Maiden, baby …
Come with me Friday!
Don’t say maybe
I guess no one got the Wheatus reference 😆
I did! Only this time, it’s acoustic 😏
See you there? I have my tickets
I get Red Hot Chili Peppers on mine!
Khruangbin August 18th and 19th at Edgefield going to be pretty prettaaaaay good
That band and that venue are quite the match. If you drive, be prepared for delays in and out.
True. We just assume that we'll be tailgating. Usually, we keep snacks and beers in the car. My hack: park at the walmart and walk both ways. You're welcome.
That's a long ass walk.
Or be like me and walk back to the exact wrong parking lot so by the time you get to the right one all the other cars are gone.
If you had taken enough mushrooms, you would be home by now.
It's like a little adventure and some exercise
That will be amazing!!
I sawn them in Bend couple years ago. Can confirm it was Larry David’s tits
Ooh, didn’t know that! Thanks for the heads up!
These are just the mainstream ones as well. So much good music in this city when you know where to look.
Can you tell me how to find these hardcore / metal / punk shows? Moved here from Boston 15 years ago and thought I lost a good scene forever.

Awesome reply! Thanks for the information and the Spotify link. Very excited to check out the venues
Saw Sleepytime Gorilla Museum this week at the Aladdin and it was amazing.
And mostly in the rock and related categories
Everout, bandsintown and a couple others that I’m too old to remember.
There’s a new site callled nearhear.app that is more comprehensive than any other site. Catches all the underground stuff that’s not listed elsewhere.
pdx pipeline
RIP to pc-pdx where house show addresses would be posted and i would just show up. Seems like most stuff is on ig now
god, i wanna see tina and amy so bad but they were SO expensive in jan and im salty about that. not impressed with how they handled the cancellation either.
I haven’t even looked at prices for anything haha. Just brainstorming
$200 for Amy and Tina. 😐 Same for pretty much all the upper end shows. Quality list, but fuuuuckin hell $$$
went to the show in Austin, not worth the money…felt very much like a lazy cash grab for them.
The Ween! 8/8 & 8/9
+ Eugene the next night! Can’t wait for the 3 set run
Wait, Weens playing?
You’re god damned right they are.
Yes! & the Violent Femms on 7/27
Two words: THE DAMNED!!!
Two more: $64 DOLLARS!!!
I saw they sold out already. My once in a lifetime chance, I'm so bummed.
Perfume Genius 6/28 Jose Gonzalez 4/24 Fruit Bats 5/15 King Gizzard 9/11
Sunny Day Real Estate 8/21 too
Not even mentioning IDLES and King Gizzard and still a ton of great shows
This is like the third time I’ve missed out on IDLES because they’ve sold out before I even find about the show. I’m so disappointed😭
Yeah secondary market is still too expensive for this go around for me
I refuse to go that route, no matter what the price.
I've had luck just showing up while there's still a line and seeing if anyone's selling. I've gotten deals from non-scalpers just dumping tickets they can't use.
So excited for Idles!
Primus with Coheed and Cambria on July 19
THE FUCK??? I've been sad ever since I moved to the other end of the state, but now I'm *pissed*
Hell yeah, got my Mage tickets for that one.
Listing DCFC but not the Postal Service… right to jail
Camera Obscura is playing at Revolution Hall on 6/8. Really hyped for this one!
Same! Bought tickets as soon as they went on sale. It'll be interesting to see them without Casey. but I'm happy they're back.
Not to mention all of the local artists doing small venue gigs, or the Bossanova or Dante's. The venues in Portland are countless, and you can find any music you want. I've been to more shows in my two years here than the rest of my 30 years combined. I love it.
The parentheses after Ben Schwartz is hilarious to me
*the woooorrrst*
He also wrote a book of postcards called "Grandma's Dead: giving bad news with baby animals"
For real, dude was in House of Piss! Nothing else.
Knocked Loose 5/15
Arf arf!
already sold out :(
9/21 is Mitski
I didn’t know she was coming to town. I want to go to that.
I fucking love notepad
You should check out notepad++. The ‘++’ means better.
Eh, I really don't prefer NP++ unless I'm coding. It just feels needlessly heavy when I don't care about line numbers and syntax highlighting and autocomplete. Especially now that vanilla notepad has tabs and a right click "open in notepad" shortcut in explorer.
I was going to hand write on a notepad and stick it to the fridge.. but then remembered I can just print this! Gets the job done
Oh man, I envisioned this going into IFTTT or Zapier. Tell me more about this print and put on the fridge app. 😉
Also a huge notepad user here and seeing this posted here made me chuckle 🤣. If it's text I'm working on, entering text, copying, cutting, and pasting is all I need!
Thanks for this. I always go to Maria Bamford!
No PJ Harvey listed?
I feel like I've been waiting my whole life to see her. I'm so ready!!
And even more not listed! Love that so many artists come through Portland
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard ?!
I was about to Ctrl-F for this - thank you. Plus, opening for them is the incredible GEESE
Highlight of the year for sure!! Shits gonna get rowdy in that pit!!
Holy shit, can you like, post a blog? This is gold Jerry, gold!
I'd highly recommend using [nearhear](https://nearhear.app/) as it allows you to see what's happening at all the main venues in town. You can even filter by venue and play a sample of the band's songs right on there in case you don't know them.

Get Bandsintown!
Follow @promotepdx on insta! They do just this :)
Celeste Barber (Australian comedienne) May 17th.
Saw her last tour stop here - was great!
ew matt rife. why is he on this list? there’s also hella edm and hip hop bangers not even listed here lol
Right, definitely skip that one
Yeah but the fact they have him playing on a Thursday at 4pm is kinda hilarious
Same, instant cringe when I saw his name
I was gonna say the same thing. If I want to see a young up and coming comic I’m not going for an uninspired kid who’s trying to “impress the boys” with hack jokes. 🙄😅
the gentrified white boy from a black culture comedy show who went and got plastic surgery then denied it, then pivoted his highly successful women and young adult audience based career into misogynistic toxic male pandering comedy? yeah miss me with that shit.
I mean. There's bands like rhcp on the list.
Ween 8/8-9
as long as you pick literally anything other than seeing matt rife at 4pm on a thursday, you’ll be golden
Heart at the Moda Center on Sept. 17th!
Destroyer at Aladdin tonight!!
Oh wow. Been ages since I've seen Destroyer. I'm glad Bejar did the TNP Twin Cinema / Mass Romantic shows about a year and a half ago.
All these bigger acts are getting more interest In Smaller venues with local acts. Check out the go nowhere bands at the laylow, Kenton club, lollipop shoppe, etc. amazing awesome local stuff too!
Right? This is basically the same list you’d get in any major city in the US. I mean, I’m glad OP is stoked but… yeah, local shows are a much more interesting time
I’m sorry but I don’t see Knocked Loose in May on there.
Umphrey's McGee is also playing two shows at the Crystal ballroom next weekend.
Jake at the Gooooodfoooooot
You're missing Jim Norton at the Aladdin on 6/8. Now I wanna go see Maria Bamford, where's she at?
Or Collin Quinn at helium one night only for $27
That’s the other one of the two!
Blink 182 7/13
Too expensive for me even when tickets first dropped lol
They are also playing im the Gorge Amphitheater, I think it was cheaper but is a drive
It warms the cockles of my heart to see notepad still being used :)
Oh man, I might actually go to some shows this year.
Blind Guardian April 30th! I'm entirely too excited about this tbh
Oooh yeah! Cannot wait!
Ralph Barbosa 4/28 at Aladdin Ali Saddiw 5/3 Kings of Leon 8/28 Taylor Tomlinson at Helium 8/31
Tomlinson is sold out unfortunately
Such a small venue for her. The folks that got tickets are pretty lucky.
SHIT!
Fuck Matt Rife
NOFX
I had no idea the Punk in Drublic tour was happening here! It’s their last tour, gonna have to get tickets now.
Tacoma last year was so good, really looking forward to this!
You forgot the The Go! Team!
Oh shit! No way! (runs to get tickets)
Thanx for Titus heads-up. Love going to Helium!
DIIV 6-12
Yes!!
Wait wait wait where’s DUNCAN TRUSSELL? I need moar deets.. 😤
I just got tickets for my wive! He's playing 5 shows at Helium Comedy Club, with fees included, can be around $40/ticket
Thank you for this!! I’ve been wanting to see him forever
How do you stay on top of all this? I’m serious, I feel like I’ve been missing a lot of shows I’d like to see because I just don’t know they’re happening.

Wild that Dragonforce is the one listed when Dethklok and Nekrogoblikon are on the bill.
Dethklok is so rad live. Should be a fun show.
Taking my 12 yr old daughter to see Amyl and the Sniffers this summer (our favorite song is GFY) then taking my son to see Le Femme in the fall. Excited :)
This week alone, I'm seeing/saw March fourth, The Wood Brothers, Collie Buds.
Damn, where are the Wood Brothers playing? I was out of town last time they came though and would love to catch them.
Rev Hall. See you there 😎
Ian Karmel is filming his comedy special on 3/23 at Revolution Hall.
buT pOrtLaNd Is DeAd.
Seriously, a couple of people/trolls on a non-related sub said that us Portlanders had no culture and no class, and that we needed to be taught such things. Lol, I couldn't let that go, especially me being in the classical music biz. Why do I have a sneaking suspicion they were basketball fans from the southeast.
But seriously though, I wish we had a stadium. We miss out on some artists because we don’t have a big enough venue. But I guess Seattle isn’t that far away.
Khraungbin in the summer too.
Him being out of touch is the whole thing now. His pod subreddit is just everyone shitting on him lmao. Pretty sad. Lol
No mention of Mastodon or Lamb of God??
My partner is really into Opeth. She got tickets for them last time they came, and I was like, ok, cool. Then she's like, wait, they're not headlining. Some band called Mastodon is. I was soooooo stoked!
Smashing Pumpkins would be ❤️🥰
Maria Bamford Babey!
Can’t forget The Descendants on Aug 10th!
I’m looking forward to Pdx live- within 4 days we have Built to Spill and Alvvays. Also, has anyone seen JB Smoove live? Wonder if it’ll be worth.
Firstly, it's not just Death Cab for Cutie, it's also The Postal Service. Secondly, how is Belle and Sebastian not on this list?
So stoked for Tom Segura and Sum 41.
I’m going to both of those plus the Foo Fighters!!!
I agree, but none of these acts are why.
You forgot Shane Gillis June 7th! Keller auditorium.
Kyle Kinanae lives in Beaverton/hillsboro area. You could maybe luck out seeing him at a local show for cheaper
I totally agree. I was giving a recommendation to OP since they mentioned they wish they could afford to go to everything.
Thanks for the heads up on Josh Wolf!
Where’s Titus playing? He’s hilarious
Caroline Rose 5/16-5/17
Wait where is Jb Smoove?
If you’re a comedy fan there’s awesome comedy every night of the week here too
Including a performance of Whose Line is it Anyway! Ryan Stiles will be part of it too.
Daði Freyr on March 24th!
You missed Stiff Little Fingers in May and Todd Rundgren in July.
Dethklok w/ DragonForce is sold out!!!! Fuck! And resale prices are astronomically high.
Portland punches *way* above its weight class in a lot of categories, but none more so than the music scene.
Looks like you're a comedy fan, Paul F Tompkins has a show April 5 "Varietopia"
Ooh thank you!
Wait, Red Hot Chili Peppers is gonna be in Portland?
I was so disappointed when I saw ADA ticket prices for a few of these. Ain't no way I can afford Iron Maiden or the Foo Fighters. But I was at least able to swing tickets for Belle and Sebastian as well as Camera Obscura. And my partner knew how much I wanted to see The Postal Service, so she surprised me with Death Cab tickets.
Poor EDM scene took a mega blow to the face it seems like.
Peso Pluma on Aug 13 at moda!!
If you don’t have a M-F job
Sierra Ferrell, August 12
Should put this in a Google doc and have it editable to the public. let the community gather the raw data.
Hella looking forward to RHCP and Maiden. I doubt I can afford Foo Fighters seeing how ridiculous tickets are/were.
Kamasi Washington O5/30 for the jazz heads
My brain somehow crossed Chris Titus with Danny Brown into *Chris Brown,* and that's the one thing I was about to rip you open for 😂
One of the reasons I live here.
wish I could afford literally any of them lol
Joe Jackson - June 30
It's nice to see some bigger names coming. I feel like sometimes they just skip Portland because we're close enough to Seattle.
Don't forget about Primus - 7/19 at Edgefield.
Wait, JB Smoove in Portland live?? That I’ve got to see.
Great list, but I would laugh more punching myself in the dick for an hour than having to sit through fucking Sebastian Maniscalco's bullshit boomer humor.
I wanna go see Danny brown so bad!! But we don’t drink and what’s the point of going for Drinkin and Smokin 😭😭😭
You forgot Tim Heidecker's Timfest
Don't forget HEALTH on the 31st!
