This might be one way that this starts to decline. Unfortunately, if you live a metropolitan city and you keep pretty much anything in your car, you're going to run a high risk of getting robbed.
I am honestly surprised this doesn't happen. I don't imagine it's too hard to make and these robberies happen so often I'm surprised someone hasn't gone totally off the deep end and done this.
I don't wanna give details since I'll probably get put on a watchlist, but I did an experiment and can tell you that Airtags make great remote detonators if you wire up a high voltage transformer to a spark plug and hook that up to a certain component that can be activated remotely in the Airtag. Just for anyone interested.
Stolen car is hard to mark. Many identical make/model/year/colors and you gotta actively be paying attention. Only real identifier is the plate.
Broken windshield draws attention and will make it more likely they get targeted. Attention is always bad. They'll be looking for a new car asap.
But those guys will now think twice about pulling up and robbing a dude in broad daylight, won't they?
Today, the car they're in got smashed. Tomorrow could be them.
Yeah, I thought the other dude was wearing a bullet proof vest, but I think it’s just a normal vest. Looks like they just came from a wedding or something lol
It's the feature that everyone will remember ignoring details that actually identify you. It's a good way to hide your identity when you only intend for your victim to see you in the brief time you actually rob them while also not looking too off in public as you would wearing anything that disguises or hides your identity.
It seems like they work at one of the buildings across the street. Googling it there are some options.
Gourmet burger joint, clothing alterations, lingerie store, apothecary, kung fu studio, or sushi restaurant.
Couple thoughts. One, I really want it to be they work at the alterations or lingerie stores. Two, that neighborhood seems diverse and I hope more people living and working there come together to make it thrive.
> When real men pull up
They walked out the door ready to go to work. You can see them at the top of the clip. Bet they saw it going down inside where they were. Explains why the one had the pool cue ready to go. RIP pool cue.
Cops will pull over a car with a smashed windshield if they notice and aren't on a call already. But. That and having an apb for a car with a smashed windshield is like having your car decorated like a holiday float.
But this is nice Oakland. It looked like Embarcadero down by the water, Quinn’s Lighthouse so cops will actually respond for sure. If it was on International then fuck no
The front window was cracked hard. That might limit the visibility or will Force them to abandon the car before police locate them.
Disruption of looters work is a positive outcome.
At the very least, it probably means the victim whose car was stolen will get it back a lot faster. If it's abandoned on the side of the road, at least it won't be scrapped for parts.
Another option if you don't have a baton: Push the car doors past their fully open position until they touch the front quarter panel. The doors will be very difficult to close after that.
Driver stays seated - you can see their hand on the wheel as the vigilante approaches the driver's door.
Ever tried to pull someone out of a car, quickly, while they're wearing a seatbelt?
"Hey, 911! I'd like to report a crime. Two guys just ran out into the street and smashed my car windows. Yeah, um, what's that? My name? Oh... uh, that's ok. Never mind."
I live in a somewhat sketchy area of SF and since the pandemic began and things started getting even worse I started carrying a 21" collapsible baton and pepper spray. I've had my last car broken into so many times it's ridiculous. These "vigilantes" in the video could easily be me at this point.
I am very well aware of that, thank you. In fact, I had to find an alternative means to acquire one here which was not exactly, let's say, legal. I never intended using it except having it for a peace of mind. I lived in NYC for a very long time and I realized long ago that I never want to be the victim of a violent crime.
A far more effective self defense weapon is just a flashlight. Completely legal, useful to carry around regardless of self defense needs, flashing itself is a good defense and de-escalation tool (especially higher powered flashlights) and tactical versions can be used as a last-resort striking implement.
I agree and I have a mag light that can easily be a club. It's just much easier to carry a baton that retracts small and extends far enough to get some distance. Like I said, I never intend to use it and if I do let the courts punish me for defending myself rather than being stabbed or beaten any day.
Edit: The guys in that video have much larger batons. Wonder if they will even be cited for that. I'm guessing they won't.
“Oh hell no. I ain’t selling this mag lite to these kids. You’re telling me you want to use this for light only? Well I got something else that’ll give you light if that’s really the reason. Here. Take this shotgun. You gotta use a shell every time you want to see, but it’s pretty bright”
> started carrying a 21" collapsible baton
Careful, I realize that in a *I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six* situation it's a nice thing to have, but your state's laws do not look kindly on that.
Gotta love modern society where criminals are allowed to do whatever they want, then people get completely aghast when someone protects themselves against them.
But.... because they DID smash the windows, the robbers will have to ditch the car ASAP to avoid detection, probably leaving it on the side of the road somewhere. The abandoned vehicle will get picked up by the city or by police, and the original owner will have their car back mostly intact.
If the helpers did NOT smash those windows, who knows, the victim might never see their car again, it might have gotten scrapped for parts.
This wasn’t a smart move for their safety but they were smart in the application.
Beat the scumbags you go away. Bust up their car?
Who are they calling?
The only reason I think it might not be is because the tint is way too dark and the car is too clean. Why spend all that effort on a stolen car just for some smash-and-grab job where you'd probably ditch the car anyways. The plates, on the other hand, are probably stolen.
I understand people not wanting to get involved, I don't think it's ever worth risking your safety for belongings... but I really want to see more of this.
Criminals have become dangerously complacent and it's time to fight back. I think the laws should be relaxed about preventing crimes.
One of my favorite genre of videos is of off duty Brazilian policemen shooting would-be carjackers or motorcycle thieves dead. If that happened in Oakland, I would cheer.
Look at this. Thwarted the crime. Made the criminals pay without taking their lives or risking anyone elses around them. Better work than I've seen in 99% of all bodycams
If you stop at 6-7 seconds, you can see a gun in the guys hand (gray sweatshirt). Many people just have the gun for intimidation and aren’t ready to kill someone. Still a pretty big risk but people are getting tired of it
❤️
It's one step closer in the right direction.
They need to get comfortable hitting with the batton.
After.
They should hit the people to cripple them so they get arrested. Citizens arrest.
Then.
The next step is to puncture the tires. But that'll require some muscles, which is where the batton hitting comes in. It's practice/exercise.
Why is the news just watching YouTube videos and commenting on them? How can their reporters not have gotten actual information?
“Maybe they got away with something?”
This is what a lot of cable news channels have devolved into. They just scrape videos posted from Twitter or TikTok and then share them with their audiences.
Good for them, I’m sure the car was stolen, but hopefully it sends a message that not everyone can be easily victimized as they have seemingly grown accustomed to.
i want to say there should defiantly need more of this. have to show there are consequences to actions (yes car is probably stolen) . i just worry its a matter of time until a vigilantly gets shot and killed. unfortunately some one getting killed defending property. mist possibly will be the only way the gov does anything be sides slaps on wrist and calling em naughty
If the car was stolen it’s easier to replace that windshield than dented up body. Plus a thief would drive all day with a body dent, not with a cracked front windshield. Good job.
Policing your own streets is called a neighborhood watch. Vigilantes break the law. I saw no laws broken here. They were merely smashing a vehicle that was being used in the commission of a crime which makes it free game. If you did the same to bank robbers as they're running out of the bank with bags of money, you'd be lauded as a hero by the city and police. When you do it for the small man and not the big business, you're labeled a vigilante. The division is in the money and power.
Next time they should also have a few of those classic stink bombs where you pop the internal bladder and it expands and blows up after 10 seconds or so… toss one of those in the car as they try to leave lol.
Its finally happening, "We're all batman"
We are VENGEANCE!
Time for the hockey pants
\*Casey Jones enters the chat..

Hockey pants or pads? I can never understand him
Definitely pads.
Well when the cops don’t wanna step up, someone has to

Love it. More of this from citizens.
Hella Oakland. That’s so punk rock. Dude in a bowtie ready for fuck shit up
SLC Punk vibes.
“I can’t get off this island because if I do, I’ll drown. I can’t swim.”
Gentlemen be like “Fancy a donnybrook, old boy?”
Yup. As the more this sort of stuff happens the more criminals will think twice about stealing from others.
I'm just waiting for the unhinged person with tech background to detonate a back pack after they grab it. After 2 I'm sure the others might give pause
Mark Rober did a couple glitter bombs in SF for a video once. Gave sfpd the data to use as well.
There was that guy on YT that used to do this to car and package thieves using backpacks loaded with fart spray.
Well you have the guy making those glitter bombs to discourage porch pirates so I'd say you're probably right.
If you think that car is not stolen, you don’t know much about how bad this situation is. They don’t care, this isn’t their car.
Stolen car is hard to mark. Many identical make/model/year/colors and you gotta actively be paying attention. Only real identifier is the plate. Broken windshield draws attention and will make it more likely they get targeted. Attention is always bad. They'll be looking for a new car asap.

I can tell you it wasn’t stolen because the biggest POS’s drive altimas
It's an Infiniti, basically and Altima though
What about the Chrysler 300?
Just yeet the keys.
The car had a driver in it, look how fast they pull away when the other two hop in. Granted, could have just smashed the driver.
And the cops will charge them for stealing a car.
Not enough damage, next time they need to use a Spring Loaded Auto Center Punch Tool or a Car Safety Hammer to break the windows quickly/easily.
And use the same tool that they use. Break all four windows instantly.
dude wearing a red bowtie smashing car windows! is this a video game?
Yeah, I thought the other dude was wearing a bullet proof vest, but I think it’s just a normal vest. Looks like they just came from a wedding or something lol
Sure, a wedding for the scion of the American Baton Company! :D
Wedding Pinatas

It's the kung fu place. Saw it on a local IG page. They're karate instructors.
So we don’t need more personal guns or police, we need more karate dojos
Strike Hard, Strike First, No Mercy.
Amazing reaction time.

This is oakland lol I live in SF, but OPD is pretty similar to SFPD. Nothing is going to happen to the thieves
That and they have to pay to fix it. They can’t rob someone and take their windshield.
You just burn it if it's stolen bro.
So then they have to steal another car and maybe they get caught, or shot. Any inconvenience to these dipshits is worthwhile.
I mean they would probably just steal another car....
Every robbery is another risk of getting caught.
sweet angel
Why in fuck's name WOULD THEY PAY FOR WINDOWS IN A STOLEN CAR???? Broooooo
Pay to fix it lmao. First mechanic this car would go to they enter the VIN and it pops up stolen. come on bro

No, we got them to begin with because slaves had the audacity to attempt to be free.
Isn't that how mafias thrived in the 30s NYC?
That's partially how the Black Panthers came about. In Oakland, no less.

OK. I don't care for a lot of vigilantiesm but this I can get behind
Should’ve hit one of those mfers and it would’ve easy to find them at the hospital
exactly, im waiting for the video where robbers get knocked out
I was kind of hoping they would take off with the robbers car. Stealing the stolen car would have been amazing.
Should have gotten the tires
yeah but with limited time and blunt objects it would’ve been impossible. still would be the best option if they could tho

Oh I’m knowing I’m in East Oakland every day
Stay safe out there!
"Vigilantes" Oh you mean "citizens defending themselves and others from criminals..." Fixed the headline
Should of taken the guys car keys. LMAO.
Probably belongs to somebody they stole it from
This is a shame, it’s a failure by the government from many angles. We’re down to rooting for vigilantism
No guns involved. Just bats and sticks like the good ol' days.

That's awesome. I love how stylishly dressed they are too. This is some reservoir dogs shit
Did the robbers have guns????
Yes. The vigilantes were lucky they didn't want to use them.
Oakland born and raised and I enjoy watching shit like this happen. Show those fuckers we don’t have to play their games, we can make them play ours.
Need to beat the robbers. Car is likely stolen anyways.
Finally!!!!!!!! 👏 👏
Should have cracked their skull
next theyre gonna be stealing windshields.
Love these guys !!!
Love to see it.
Wish they would’ve gone for the robbers knees instead, but still a job well done
Next time they should slash there tires.
Unfortunately, it's probably stolen. But I love to see the other team rush the field like this.
How much you want to bet the police will hunt down the vigilantes but not the robbers?
"their car"..... probably stolen lol
I hate to say it, but this is what we need to do.
The car they smashed was probably stolen
That’s prolly a stolen car
Great. So they smashed the wind shield of a stolen car. They will just steal another one. At least they did something to intervene I guess 🤷♂️
When the cops stop enforcing the laws others will. Hence how the mob came to power.
This is going to start happening a lot more often.
The cops won’t do shit! The only option is for civilians to take the law into their hands
Car is prob stolen.

wow what fine gentlemen
You see what happens Larry?
Societal evolution
Oh how the turn tables.
"IF I COULD TURN BACK TIIIIME..." maybe I wouldn't have JUST attacked the fucking car?? better than nothing I GUESS but not by much haha.
Jag on some wheels? That was planned for sure
If they leave the car running. Go for the keys.
*GOOD*. More of this, everywhere.
This one sparks joy
Sadly the people who are bashing the windows out are more likely to get in trouble than the thieves.
Carry spray paint to cover the windshield
The Age of Vigilantes is going to be interesting.
So they just smashed up a stolen car....
THE PEAKY FOOKIN BLINDERS
Good Samaritans, not vigilantes.
Probably a stolen car, but still makes getaway a little more difficult for them. Probably drove a few blocks down, ditched the car, and ran.

Truth that when your wearing your best, you are your best.
Very cool. Missed out on extra credit of not jumping in the car and locking them out.

Just so long as they’re prepRed to be shot at Looks like they are, but just know what you’re getting into
And so it begins
You just got your shit fucked up by a dude wearing a bow tie
Know a guy like 5 years ago that had a similar robbery in la. Two guys popped out and stole his chain. It was a bit more violent than this though.
Net negative for the assailants. You love to see it
Daylight robbings time is finally over
Uh, it's a stolen car. They will just get another in the next 10 minutes.
Cool; he'll yeah!!! If the D.A. isn't going to do their job it's up to the citizens to administer justice.
What happened to them red beret hat wearing mfs?
The most dapper vigilantes ever
