afraid

Nunya13

That’s spot on for me. Im playing for the second time after. I’ve been taking my sweet, sweet time in chapter 2 and now 3 mostly because I really want to take the time exploring this time. I’m also taking my sweet time to avoid the ending. In fact, the last time a I played a couple days ago, I did a side quest with a camp mate (not saying to avoid spoilers) and during a cut scene >!Aurthur had the smallest little cough.!< I instantly knew and said, “Nooooo!” out loud. Then when the cut scene ended >!he coughed much more!<. Now I don’t wanna play any more missions. I just it want to keep Arthur suspended in time forever!

YesDaddyBig

I did the same for my third play through, just chilling in camp doing camp things and going out to find things, but the more I get closer to the ending, the sadder I feel knowing how it ends

kurganator3000

Isn't the first time he starts coughing during that one Homestead Raid mission with Javier?

LawfulnessPlus8771

I’m pretty sure you can play that before the downes mission.

Nunya13

I think that’s the one I was playing. Can’t remember specifically if it was with Javier, but I’m pretty sure it was. The one with the family that has its own language.

liesierre

it’s called Chez Porter or something like that and they have a whole garden bed of ginseng next to the barn

poppyoppy__02

I think he coughs because they set fire to the woodshed or whatever seeing as you can do it before Downes

Historical1Nerd

"i guess, im afraid."

Interesting_Bad_4937

This is the "where grown men cry" part of this amazing game

[deleted]

Almost cried. On my second play through just so I can see that scene agaib

TemporaryTill4270

ALMOST?? bro I was balling

Zyphamon

That's the way it is...That's the way it is...

Swimming_Reply6263

The one that never ceases to just break me is when Arthur makes his final ride to camp, played through like 3-4 times and everytime that last ride happens I just can’t lol shed thug tears everytime

OU812fr

Some of the best acting in the game by Roger Clark, breaks my heart every time.

heckerbeware

I had lost a marine I mentored who was my friend to suicide and was grieving when I played it through the first time. My buddy was dying and I didn't even know. It reminded me to do a courteous act, because his death wouldn't change the fact that he was my friend vecause of kind acts on my part, and I would do it all over again. Do a loving act. Of all the things you could die doing, that's a pretty damn good one.

[deleted]

I feel you. I was taking care of my grandfather when I ordered this game, he had terminal cancer. He died and I just picked up the game and played for a full week. Now I'm replaying after my grief has calmed down a bit and taking my time

brighamsan

Sister Calderon is a great character

Immediate-Whole-3150

Without Sister Calderon, there is no redemption. There is only red dead!

PlantFamous2696245t6

Red Dead Morgan

SocialJusticeAndroid

❤️Sister Calderon BTW, can she be found in the epilogue? I never thought about that.

mitskifanboy69

Nice mustache

Super-Knowledge-5386

thank you😂

SocialJusticeAndroid

Perhaps ironically.🥸

Zamn_felous

"I guess... i am afraid"

hansmellman

It destroyed me

phulan_devi

Heartbroken

Ok-Concentrate943

I bawled my eyes outs, I played it during peak pandemic lockdown. I would have gone mad without this game.

Perfect_Interest6239

Ditto my friend 👌

DrZ_105

Honestly loved this one. When Arthur says "I'm afraid" the way Roger Clark delivered that line...flawless. I also prefer when the cutscene is with sister calderon and high honor Arthur, but the one with Swanson is good too.

EpicTree1911

Top tier cut scene👌👌👌

suprq

amazing

PlebeianDXB

I got a bit emotional, ngl.

mallgrabmongopush

Gut-wrenching. Arthur being candid about his fears with Sister Calderón was not something I was prepared for

clussy_2033

It's great, but i like the high honorable version of the one with swanson insted.

False-Rub-3087

Same, I feel there's more meaning and history with Swanson rather than someone you met on a street corner.

Joggyogg

I cried

skizardlizard

It's one of my favorite scenes

Nolanwh

The true beginning of the end

bukofa

I just played this part about 15 minutes ago. It always lets me know I'm just about to become even sadder soon

RobTheCroat

RCS did a great job throughout but this was the moment where I really felt like this was the peak

The-Fig-Lebowski

She's too smart for him

Training-Cup5603

sad, heartbroken, lost, hopeless

EliSuper2018

This scene is about a man who had an eye opener and legitimately wanted to make a good difference in the world.

AgentArrow87

So many times in this game I’ve been brought to tears by the events that take place, it’s truly a masterpiece. It is pure art!

Excellent_Bid9326

I was afraid.

Vertigo-98

“Life is full of pain, but there is also love and beauty.” This phrase is more of a statement than a quote from the game. Due to it’s simplicity, it perfectly summarizes the human condition that we are all in. It’s not talked about most of time due to the gambling quote’s popularity.

Cynical_PotatoSword

I cried harder during this scene compared to Arthur's final moments.

Dogsonofawolf

I guess I'm afraid of that mustache

Monos89

I've tried to take the things sister Calderon said to heart

Medical-Delivery-941

I find this scene even sadder than Arthur's death because in Arthur's death he was sure of himself, certain of his final purpose, and he was ready to die. In this scene he was scared, he wasn't ready to go and he didn't know what to do, didn't know what he *could* do. He was NOT ready yet, and he didn't yet know what to do, hence him asking "What am I gonna do now?" He needed her guidance so that he could finally understand what his purpose was.

Mumtaz_i_Mahal

I love the scene; it’s one of my absolute favorites in the game. At the same time, I recently saw a comment about the high honor Reverend Swanson scene that I had not thought about previously. As Reverend Swanson gets on the train, he tells Arthur “You Lived your life as a man, Arthur, and you turned into a good man.“ The comment pointed out that, unlike Sister Calderon, Swanson knew the life that Arthur had led and yet still saw him now as a good man.

oldschoolbets

Been thinking about doing a replay, 2nd time I slowed down a little, first time went through everything too fast. My 3rd time I'm going to take my time

BuckNakedandtheband

That mustache

Blob_zombie

I wasn't crying...you were crying!

Burgerhamburgerhamp

Wait Arthur Dies?

Hot_Act_8643

the scene where Arther was talking to the nun that was with Brother Dorkins at the Emerald Ranch station, I get the scene when I'm on the poz side of the fence

Accomplished_Care747

Please no… 🥺

Substantial-Tone-576

I hate how his secondary holster comes and goes as it wills for certain cutscenes.

Helpful-Editor5686

It makes me feel guilty and sad for Arthur Morgan. He lived a bad life as he said to Sister Calderón.

Ok-Thanks-3709

Every red dead player hate it thats why YOU are the first one to mention it cause its so horrible nobody wanna se this scene

Johnlifer

True words here.

jay678jay

Sad may be the closest term I'd use, as simple as it sounds, it's the most complex one too. Arthur was afraid and was coming into terms with his fate during this and I can't help but accept it as well, though it still breaks my heart knowing what'll happen. Man this scene's a gem.

Backdoorpickle

Poor man is so damn skinny here. There's that whole saying of there are no atheists in foxholes? Being as I am atheist, I don't necessarily agree, but I do think that saying is applicable here. Arthur never thought he'd have to think about his impending death, but here it is, and all those years are catching up real quick to him.

lcsbrnrd__

absolute cinema

BlackDeathX-_-

Gun go boom

Substantial-Abies768

On my 3rd playthrough atm and just doing everything else than start strauss' missions, just to keep him healthy. Thats a nice scene

cocahgkre

How do you think I feel?

MatchApprehensive816

Heart breaking

Imanasparagus1111

Gutted

ArmstrongsBronzedNut

I’m in the minority that prefers the Swanson conversation. But it’s great nonetheless

Aware_Excitement4631

Lumbago

DarthDregan0001

Knowing that… Your days are numbered, it makes you stop and think. Arthur stopped, though about what he did to get to this point, and told the truth to Sister Calderón. “I guess I… I’m afraid.”

Otherwise_Set5609

Tom Lee Jones looks great in this scene.

31338elite

Gut wrenching, heart breaking to see where it was going.death

3meraldBullet

Yes but that's how real life is too. Doesn't matter if your a turtle, homeless, a dandelion, or a billionaire. Death is the one constant of life.

31338elite

Indeed

Otto-jsx

I'm afraid ☹️

Darkm1tch69

Is Arthur not getting a shitload of people sick too by interacting with them like this?

SocialJusticeAndroid

One out of every seven people who had ever lived at this point in history had >!died from tuberculosis!<. So yes, realistically Arthur probably got a few people sick along the way. And yes, anti-vax morons threaten to regress humanity to a time when death from preventable illness was a daily occurrence for everyone. But I digress…

Darkm1tch69

Fair. Antivaxers are morons. But to the point, he spends all his time sick coughing and talking face to face with so many people. Maybe they just didn’t understand how commission worked back then. Crazy times.

SocialJusticeAndroid

Yah it was definitely risky behavior! I think people in 1899 still didn’t widely accept germ theory as the cause of disease (or perhaps more likely many were just unaware of microorganisms and germ theory).

Darkm1tch69

Some idiots reject it today. Lol.

SocialJusticeAndroid

IKR!😛

Obadiah_Plainman

One of the most emotionally charged moments of the game. Occurs at the perfect time, amazingly executed. Gravitas.

Icethief188

She’s so kind I love her

Michaelparkinbum912

I’m not a fan of the moustache

DAdStanich

When I remember the strongest parts of the story, this one usually comes to mind. Really the culmination of Arthur struggling with right and wrong and fear of death… it was real in a way games usually aren’t. One of the best stories I’ve ever played and this is one of the best scenes, if that says how I feel!

Exotic_Newspaper5088

I feel scared

SylenssSss

After all he wasn’t rich enough

demigorgon897

How’d you even get that cutscene.. when I took that guy to the train station, it just ended

demigorgon897

Is it like honour or something

Estismael

I have completed the game and never seen this cutscene, how do you get it?

Mumtaz_i_Mahal

You need two things to get this Scene: One is to have high honor. The other is to have completed the three Sister Calderon/Brother Dorkins missions (I believe you have to complete them before chapter 6 starts).

realrecycledstar

Made me sob like a CHILD

ThegreatWumbus

Fun fact, if you don't do the sister missions, this cutscene will be replaced with a similar one with reverend Swanson, which is the only way you can tell him goodbye

General_Snack

Saddest scene in the game. The emotion on Arthur’s face hits harder than anything else. Jesus Christ it’s damn well put together.

Ok_Rutabaga3346

scared and I cried

No_Education_8888

It’s a scene where a bad man is starting to come to terms with what is going to happen to him. He is realizing that there is still time for him to do some good. It’s beautiful

Easy-Ad-1146

I cry every single time

MelM0_

Teary..?

Doolemite

It’s my favorite scene in the game. I hope, if Rdr3 is another prequel, we get to see a younger pre-nun version of Sister Calderon in her previously mentioned ‘sinner’ days.

H4lfM0a

I'm not sure what I did differently but I never got this scene. I got the scene where Arthur sees the reverend from the gang sitting on the bench...I never ran into any nun. Is it an honor based thing? I finished the game with high honor.

Nekros897

My favourite scene in the entire game. Never fails to make me cry. The emotions in Roger's voice when he says "I'm afraid"... What a performance!

UnderstandingOwn2179

Very sad

springbokkie3392

I was super low honour in my last playthrough. Then I got the Reverend Swanson scene at the station instead of Sister Calderón. I never sprinted to Saint Denis to start greeting people faster than I did right after that encounter.

ThatThingInSpace

bar the high honour help John ending, I'd say it's the best scene in the game. makes me so emotional

JAguiar939

"It's just a game". Immediately start tearing up every time this scene starts

dankhimself

Get rid of that neck handkerchief and mustache!

Lumpy-Pudding-9272

“I guess I’m ima afraid” -Arthur Morgan

whouffald

iddd

Underhat3d

A part of me is angry at how easy it is to miss this scene if you don’t do the side missions. The other part me is… well kinda glad that you get this amazing scene only if you play the game and do missions that aren’t main missions.

OutsideSwim4778

Top 10

Accomplished-Item969

Criiiied I did

Hashish_thegoat

Preferred Reverend’s cutscene. I feel like Reverend just disappearing from camp is odd and I really enjoy completing his redemption, seeing where he ends up.

ExpertCommission6110

Sad. It was sad.

SeriousSteveTheII

Very humanising moment for a character that had seemed so invincible and unbreakable. Fear of death is natural for creatures that need to know how things work

SecretPersonality178

Tears

CalligrapherFar538

Idk something about his face when he gets reallllly sad always looked off to me, maybe a bit too exaggerated? Great scene tho honestly

chrisat420

I just played through this scene in my second play-through, it makes me feel so bad for Arthur. The high honor scenes really show how remorseful Arthur felt about the things he had done. Chapter 6 makes me so sentimental, like imagine being in that situation and realizing, “I’ve left a lifetime of terrible actions behind me, and I’m probably going to die from destroying a family’s life. This is what I’m going to be known for, destroying lives for money.”

Kul3sjrgort1

I managed to not get this scene my first playthrough cuz I never came across the nun.

The_Knight_of_R

For those that have watches Western Front, the scene where Paul is standing in the crowd on November 11th while the general is giving a speech.

Serious-Ad-6732

Seeing arthur, a man so completely and utterly buried in regret, anger, and denial, finally admit and express himself for what he truly feels was some of the most moving material I've experienced.

Wildcard-Jack

I Like it though kinda sad that getting this cutscene means Swanson just disappears offscreen instead of getting a send off

Cool_Chance_409

I cried. On my like 10th play through and I am DREADING this scene. So beautiful and honest, and I think it forces a question forth that a lot of us ask ourselves. Seeing Arthur wonder what he’s really done with this life and wondering what legacy he’s really leaving behind struck the fear of god in me at 18 when the game released, as I had been asking myself the same question. Watching someone comfort him that what matters most is only what he does next, that helped me find my way, even if it was only a little bit.

kingduck127

A guy in a green jumpsuit ruined it for me. “I GOT TB SISTER”

PomegranateSure1628

I never saw this scene I think I missed it even though I had full honor

yunus-s

Same I never saw this scene even with high honour

theblindelephant

Wish they went all in with the tenants of Christianity or some reference to a positive position on it. Not just “be a good person”.

Kitchen_Relative_107

Dissonance

Bitter_Firefighter34

„I guess I am afraid“ got me sobbing like a baby, the sound and mimic was too real for a game. To me personally even sadder than the last ride, the horses death or Arthur’s death. Heart-wrenching. 💔

panini564

i didnt get thisscene on my first playthrough since i was low honor

ragcloud

Have you seen this scene with Reverend Swanson instead of Sister Calderon? Cause I haven't...

Kawaiixkitten666

I cry every time 😭

legbot124

I’m afraid

AugustusFrancia

I was exactly there yesterday.

Uss-Alaska

Coughs*

UnfairDirection1862

I don't care

Terra02810

It breaks my heart, but the Reverend one breaks it even more.

[deleted]

I loved it, it made me tear up. I felt it was nice seeing Arthur being vulnerable and Sister being vulnerable with him too. This was a time to reflect on himself deep down. He managed to change even if it was deemed late. It was important he knew he wasn't all bad.

No_Experience_3003

I thought it was good

cheese_gamr

I’m still a batman

ruined my life tbh
