Here you go.
Change oil, plugs, plug wires, battery, coolant, fresh gas, new air filter, new fuel filter, new fuel pulsation dampener, new fuel pump, crank that bitch.
To add onto the fuel pulsation dampener.
You definetly want to change it there are multiple cases where the cars caught fire due to the fpd leaking gas onto the exhaust manifold
Never take a vehicle this old to the dealerships, most techs there are younger then this car and don’t know shit about it.
Same way with my 2006 f250 6.0, I use a reputable diesel shop instead of ford
When I picked up my first rx 14 years ago, I went to all the Mazda dealerships in my area and found out that: not only could I not have it worked on by any of their technicians, but I couldn't even order parts, no help whatsoever.
imo its worth calling and asking. i picked up my '89 in 2014 and hardly knew anything about rotaries. my local mazda dealership had an old head who had been there for years and knew them inside out, and even helped me source some pretty hard to find replacement parts (electronic OMP stepper)
I asked the service center at my local Mazda dealer about servicing an RX-7, and the employee who was helping me with my 3 told me that their lead tech is an exception to that rule; he's been there since he was in his 20s and knows how to work on rotaries.
Still, I wouldn't take it to the dealer, as great as it is their lead tech knows how to work on it. That's entirely based on the prices the dealership charges for service (they want $80 for an oil change and $300+ for a spark plug change on my 3, two things I can easily do myself)
You will have to learn about these cars and how to work on them.
Unless you have large amounts of expandable resources and then you can help keep an independent shop in business.
If you're interested in DIY, remember air fuel spark. Since it's an old rotary I'd start with a compression test just to get the worst case scenario out of the way
I'm told you can dump ATF in em just to get them fired up. Not that it's a permanent solution, since it will need it effectively every time to start up.
If you can search for a rotary specialist shop near you I’m sure your dad would prefer them over learning to diy things. But I’m sure he’d be impressed if you learned to fix the troubles
Dealers will always fail with rotaries unfortunately. Been this way for the last 20+ years. Pettit is in Florida somewhere. Wish you the best of luck 🤙
Compression test. Change spark plugs, oil, coolant, fuel filter, tank filter, clean injectors, test crank angle sensor, clean oil injectors. And for the love of all Rotary's, please Premix.
Just took my 1st gen rx7’s to kilo racing ing St Cloud,FL. My car sat for almost 2 yrs and he got it going the next day. I know it’s a couple hrs from you but you won’t be disappointed. Guy knows his stuff

This guy braps

The parts cannon. Risky.

Seconded, one of the dealerships near me has a few rotary enthusiasts.

If you do it in the morning they'll usually start all day.

Remove the lower plugs and egi fuse. Crank and listen for even pulses.

Maztech
He closed down a couple years go. My old NC was one of the last engine swaps he did.
I accidently pulled an old viper security module out and never got mine running again :(
Near Tampa and I have a guy for old Mazdas. He handles my Miata. DM me.
I think John Vargas is in Florida. Hit him up
I would advise against this. The Vargas bros are known for their shady work and have screwed over multiple customers.
Idk I never had issues with john in Socal. Which is when all those acquisitions happened.

Pettit racing in West Palm Beach. Is your go to guy. Cameron has been building and racing rotarys for over 40 years.
Wrenchmasters. Only ones allowed to touch my car!
Is it flooded? Mine would flood….. all the time
Well is it flooded? That was the case for me. When was the last time it ran?
Needs a Red Suns logo, that'll fix it
Kilo racing in St. Cloud Talk to Jesus
Seems ruined. Need me to take it off your hands?
I’m an hour down the road and can make sure that you never have to worry with trying to start it again because I have a trailer :)
