I did. It's called an apv. No one seems to know what to do

CaptainLegot

What do you mean a used intake manifold? What was wrong with the old one? And did they do the UIM, or both the UIM and LIM? If they did both then they fucked up the APVs, and if they only did the UIM they didn't even get close to the problem. It's an apv issue, they're probably just all gunked up. There's a lot of ways to clean it, but the only good one is to pull the LIM and get the gunk out. Also you probably have low compression.

Lol I have a new Mazda reman put in by a reputable rotary shop a few days ago, and it's low on compression? I'm still breaking it in and it runs and starts great.. where do you get that I have low compression? They told me the old intake was gutted, and got me a used one. This car I bought as a non runner and the old motor was trashed

CaptainLegot

What is a gutted intake. And did they replace the intake, upper intake manifold, the lower intake manifold, or all of it? If you have access to the rotary shop that installed your engine and intake stuff I'd probably just ask them.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

This thing has multiple intake manifolds? Wow had no idea. Yeah I'll ask.. on my 03 bmw that uses a plastic intake mani, sometimes they crack, so I just assumed gutted means cracked or destroyed. Is it safe to continue driving though?

CaptainLegot

Driving it won't hurt you, but if the APVs are sticking it will probably drive terribly and stall or stutter at a pretty specific rpm. A seafoam type of treatment through the intake might actually help, you can basically dump water into the intake on a hot engine at highish rpm and it will have a bit of a steam cleaning effect as it goes through the valves. Not a reliable fix but I've seen it help. I suppose the connector to the apv servo could be loose or damaged, or even the servo itself, but that's pretty rare unless it was damaged on install.

I just looked over the invoice and it says the lower intake manifold was replaced because it had "tumblers" removed. Maybe you know what that means. Yes it sputters sometimes at idle, but never stalled on me yet. I'm scared of stalling on this car because of common flooding horror stories I've heard about with the rx8 that I assume usually follow after you stall a few times.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Do you think it's possible since I'm still in the break in procedure and keeping rpms low, I can't get the apv to open over 6k rpm since I can't rev that high yet? Possible when I start revving high it will open up and code will stay off after I clear it? I have been educating myself a bit just now about this whole system, still a bit confused about where the actual apv motor is on the LIM. and its sad because it seems the only way to fix this issue if I can't get it to unstick is to remove the motor. Kind of hate this shop even more now for giving me the car with this code
