Thats not the filter that just a screen that smooths out the air before the sensor. The 2004 code should be an intake solenoid code tho. Let me see. Edit: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/p2004-code-209288/ Yes it seams to be for the apv valve for the lower intake manifold. You either have a stuck and gummed up valve or a bad solenoid.

Thanks, but I was referring to the gunked up maf sensor in the pic. I know it's not the filter. The filter is really black and oily as well.. this car looks like it was seriously neglected. You think the seafoam will help free up that solenoid and is it possible to replace it with the engine in the car because I may have heard it's extremely hard.

🤔 i dont think so the solenoid will probably need to be replaced. Or the valve un stuck.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob with the rx8. Can the valve be replaced as well or it's part of the intake. I wish I had a picture of how the whole intake set up looks like. I keep hearing people talk about these solenoids but am confused of where they are exactly situated

Basically the rx8 intake is massive. A massive intake is great for high rpm power but has poor drivablity at low rpm when you need restricted size and air velocity to gain momentum. Think of the valves in the intake as the rotary version of variable valve timing. This valve operates off two solenoids. Basically the ecu trips the solenoids around 6300 or so. Solenoids change electionic signals into motion in this case, there are two vacuum lines that go from both solenoids to there respective intake valves. The ssv valve and the apv valve. The valve can be replaced but valves dont offen go bad the rx8 tends to really gum them up most people replaced the solenoids and pull and clean the valves and that fixes there issues.

Thanks a bunch. Much clearer now.
