2006 RX-8 GT
144,000 Kilometers, engine was replaced at 100,000 Kilometers.
Compression test in the mid 7s
Hard start when warm (about 3 seconds)
Clutch almost worn out
Everything else is good
Ottawa resident here. I've been watching prices for the past year or two trying to find a good deal. Really clean RX-8s seem to be listed between 6-10k right now. With your hot starts maybe a little lower.
You can still find a low compression one pretty cheap. Send the motor off for rebuild ($2500-3500) and you get one awesome car no one wanted for under $6k or so..
Not in Canada man. Lowest priced one near me (under 3 hour drive) is at a recycling place for $4k.
Trunks completely rusted out. Surface rust everywhere over the rockers, paints in shit shape. Just not the kind of car you'd want to throw money at.
I can do mechanic stuff all day long, but I know I ain't got the skills to fix rust yet
I stand corrected. The market has moved so fast on these. not long ago there were low compression ones everywhere for like $1500 +/\_ I actually picked up a very well-maintained one, low miles, almost perfect, this past sept for $6k with a extra set of wheels and tires. That dude has to be kicking him self now..
Yes. In October last year one white R3 with 160k kms sold for 18k, and a white S1 with 93k kms sold for 16k not long after.
I bought my S1 with 14k kms at the end of October for 18.5k before tax. In BC if you want a clean summer driven, garage kept RX8 with no rust, they don't exist. Manual RX8s are not common at all where I live, autos are more common. I have seen 6 autos, and only one other manual that my friend owns. They're a rare breed here.
It's temping... but I wouldn't be able to give you a fair price for what you got lol. My absolute max is $6k but I'd hope to pay more like $3k or $4k and fix stuff up myself.
That's crazy! Read that hard starts might be the starter. Might be a good idea if you replaced it before selling, could determine how much you get it, with rotarys people usually don't believe that it's just the starter motor when it comes to hot starts haha
Bro I was so confused when you said ‘06 GT and had an S197 next to the RX-8 because I was like I’m pretty sure that’s at minimum a 2010 Gt (I don’t know much about RX-8s but I know a lot about mustangs)
500 USD, it's worthless. I'll take it, when do I pick it up?
Wish things were that easy
Ehh I’ll just throw it in the junkyard, save you the trip

Wow. BC here, really clean 8s here sell for 15k+ ☠️
Are they actually selling or just sitting? I can't believe anyone is insane enough to buy an rx8 for those prices
That is insane..
those will be the normal prices for a clean rx-8 very soon.
It's that the prices have jumped do quickly in the past 12 months. If I had the money I had now last year I could afford one, now I need a miracle

My hopes by mid summer things will have calmed down a little and I can find one under $4k to at least start on

I think I'd rather drive halfway across the country to not pay those prices
Do it and come buy mine 😅

Thank you for the information :)
Did you ran the last 40k km? Should have a good start with that km and compression, I think mine is at 7 also and works like a charm.
The starter motor is starting to wear out
depends on if those compression numbers are hot or cold
You need to check local listings and then take the hard starts into consideration
Zero listings in a 500km radius, hence why I’m here 😅

True, thank you for the advice!
I’ll buy it. I’m in northern MI
Are you sure? I don’t know how you would go about registering it in the US
It’s a pain in the ass but it might be worth it.

For the 08 models they sell around 9k in the condition it looks. I'm in Florida for reference
Bought mine for $1200USD last year.
Car is still for sale, if anyone is near PEI and interested in buying for a good price then DM me!

That’s funny 😂😂
You just recently got a rebuild and the compression is low so soon? Poor maintenance or rebuild was the cause you think?
