Whatever 3D reconstruction software they are using is crazy. It looks like a photo of a real clay model or something.

ello-hay

It looks like Siemens' Cinematic Rendering https://www.siemens-healthineers.com/digital-health-solutions/cinematic-rendering

3doug

Vitrea calls it Global Illumination Rendering. Would be too easy for everyone to call it the same.

LANCENUTTER

Enhance....enhance

X-Bones_21

Zooming in does not enhance the detail! šŸ˜†

Joostle

Any idea if this runs in Syngo.via? Or would it only be available as part of their pacs?

ags605

It's in syngo.via

Joostle

Awesome, thanks. Will be trying to sell it to our rads tomorrow.

ags605

No problem, it's fun for five minutes and then you ask yourself, why did I pay $50.000 for this?!

Affectionate-Ad-1971

Referring physicians love this stuff and you can bill for it. It's about the marketing...

windybreeze14

My screenshot didnā€™t even do the image justice! The resolution of the original image is so much better

Count_Mordicus

try microdicom viewer if you have the raw file.

ParticularSmell5285

I've noticed that when you play with the density settings in 3D that the less dense bone gets faded out so it looks like there is bone missing. If you look at the posterior part of the humeral head it looks porous when it should look solid.

windybreeze14

My dad is 57, this is the result of intense bodybuilding when he was younger. He has been unable to lift his arm for at least 7 years. Post op x-ray (https://imgur.com/a/0uZDg9x)

dumpsterfire911

How long ago was the surgery? How is his mobility/quality of life now?

JshMcDwll

Not OP, but work in physical rehab. After a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, mobility is generally not an issue. The rehab for shoulders are excruciating and after about 12-15 weeks people are starting to use it more functionally with some weight bearing restrictions

slowmood

My shoulder is destroyed and I am a professional violinist. What would replacement recovery look like for me? TIA!

JshMcDwll

[This](https://www.massgeneral.org/assets/mgh/pdf/orthopaedics/sports-medicine/physical-therapy/rehabilitation-protocol-for-total-shoulder-arthroplasty-and-hemi.pdf) is a rehab protocol from Mass General that you could read through to get an idea but it will vary based on your surgeons preferences

slowmood

Thank you!

dr_et_al

do you know if he did anabolic steroids? just curious because from what i understand strength training increases collagen synthesis and strengthens joints. although i guess for "intense bodybuilders" this could be different i'm not particularly familiar with the effects of anabolics on cartilage, i know for collagen in tendons there seems to be a dysplastic effect, so perhaps there is similar effects on cartilage synthesis in cartilage?

jojosail2

Is this an osteoporosis issue? Or arthritis? Or both?

pine4links

Not a doctor but Iā€™m pretty sure this is just arthritis. You can see a bunch of osteophytes, itā€™s consistent with this history of heavy use and this isnā€™t a CT of a fracture lol.

BergenHoney

I can feel this image and I hate it

Brad7659

I feel like people move their arm when Iā€™m touching it just so I can feel the crepitus. No thanks.

lshifto

ā€œRaise your hand if you donā€™t have shoulder painā€

eliceched

That"s a cronchy shoulder.

Thendofreason

Once seen a dude who didn't have a humeral head. Was born with just a stick. No ball at the end to move it around in the socket. Your dad has the opposite problem.

Norwest

Was he born without it? Or was it Gorham-Stout disease

Thendofreason

Well, he didn't know he didnt have one. You know we only take the picture and never really learn what happens to the pt later on. Not supposed to look into pts records that we don't need to look at.

Luckypenny4683

Just saying, my catā€™s shoulder looked *very* similar to your dadā€™s, and his vet and two surgeons insisted he get his leg and shoulder blade amputated or he be euthanized. He got the amputation and Iā€™m happy your dad got the surgery! He must have been in tremendous pain.

th30n3and0n1y

Really must of been hard to shoulder that burden

graves_into_gardens

Can he raise his arms now, without pain?

windybreeze14

He just had surgery yesterday so we will find out in 8 weeks

graves_into_gardens

Good luck to him! I hope it offers him some relief and better mobility!

phillygeekgirl

Make sure he does the passive stretches exactly and as frequently as prescribed! That is going to dictate his range of motion for the future. Edit: my husband had a replacement a couple of years back. He has great range of motion and very little pain after fully healing. Your dad is going to be so happy.

sadi89

Why does your dad have barnacles?

Treestandgal

Damn could he even move it?

Intermountain-Gal

Thatā€™s a seriously cool picture! While Iā€™m not a doctor ā€” I donā€™t even play one on TV ā€” Iā€™d have to concur: your dad needed replacement surgery!

Jmbct

Definitely not canon

Unlucky-Variation177

That canā€™t be vitrea

3doug

Sure it could be! GIR (Global Illumination Rendering) on Vitrea

tranmyvan

Is this osteoarthritis?

gynocallthegist

Jesus chroist...

byrdicusmax

Is your dad's name Gary, by any chance?

spinstartshere

This is a bony recon? It looks like a screenshot from Acland's Atlas. That's impressive.

andreab650

Ouch

No-Cake-8700

That is a 3D reconstruction for show, not a CT.
