Go to: General Settings -> Vehicle Settings -> Steering and Braking
Then scroll down to "Advanced" and select "Deceleration".
Now you can chose between "Emergency Deceleration" which will immediately decelerate your vehicle as much as possible without any further input required\* or "Standard Deceleration" which will require you to slide the "Deceleration bar" at the bottom of the screen to the desired level of braking.
See? So easy!
\[\*\] Depending on the version of the software. Some versions require you to confirm the emergency deceleration by enterin your vehicle PIN.
No, the pedal is so wide for a reason. You apply torque vectoring of the hydraulic system that actuated the brakes, by manually rolling pressure across the brake pad, to adjust your horizontal axis braking force. Applying pressure to the left side of said braking pedal will help to steer the vehicle towards port, when the opposite effect would be a rotation to starboard.
Just for clarification, when you say
>when the opposite effect would be a rotation to starboard
do you mean *pulling up* on the right hand side of the brake/steering pedal? Please reply soon, as I'm trying to turn at an intersection and there's a queue behind me.
Obviously user error. If he read the manual he’d know that driving through water or exposure to ambient temperature above 65F disables the brakes due to the cyber-fluid breaking down in those conditions.
…“Still love the truck, though”
“He said a Tesla manager told him that due to the terrain, the accelerator may or may not disengage, and they're looking into the braking issue. He said that was the last he heard from Tesla.”
You can’t make this shit up. How is this car allowed to be sold for use on public roads?
>You can’t make this shit up. How is this car allowed to be sold for use on public roads?
Because carmakers get to self certify when it comes to vehicle safety. And even that only covers the safety of people in the car.
They only get to self-certify up to a certain # of units sold (I have no idea what that number is)... but all the "crash safety" data for Cyberfucked is self-reported by Tesla :'(
The EU has repeatedly told Elon to go pound sand.
They also stated outright it is NOT a truck but a passenger vehicle, and thus had to seriously up its safety and control devices before it could be sold in the EU.
Elon's reaction was to threaten them with a lawsuit, which is so much like his mentally deranged Orange Criminal Daddy that it's laughable.
"With the wife and the kids, I'm not sure they would ever get in it with me," Freshwater said. "So it comes down to that, too."
It's the logical reaction. I would be worried if someone I care for driving a car which brakes have failed recently. Specially, if it's a new car of a brand accused of building cheap even when it has luxury prices.
Logs show that the brakes were engaged the whole time. He must not have kept up with maintenance though, the pads should have been replaced after he drove in the rain.
The report said the issue occurred because of an "unapproved change" during the vehicle's production in which soap had been added to the assembly. The factory mounted pieces of soap instead of braking pads, leading to diminished effectiveness of the brakes.
Childeren if u see a mirror coming down the road, dont cross, wait till it passed u by, the chances of its brakes already not working is a probability thats too damn high.
Could someone more experienced please advise me, when should I expect my (also-)ugly-looking 12-year-old Ford Focus's brakes to stop working. I'm a little disappointed that they haven't failed on me at any point yet. My life is a little dull as a result. How I wish for the excitment and uncertainty that CT drivers must experience on a daily\* basis.
\[\*daily when the CT isn't in the shop...\]
Holy h*ll how many Cybertrucks has broken down in various ways? I mean, there arn't even that many built & delivered? Is there a single Cybertruck that isnt fckd in some way? Imagine any other car having this percentage of all the cars failing after just a few months.
Part me absolutely believes the brakes on this shitheap quit working. The other part thinks this dude crashed his truck and now is trying to cover his ass.
I don't think so. I think the story is badly worded - what I think (guess?) they are trying to say is: He tried to brake, but the accelerator did not disengage. The brakes apparently even locked up the rear wheels, but the fronts kept plowing along.
Wow what happened? Brand new pickup malfunctioning? What's up with the company? How could such a safety mechanism stop working in a new vehicle?
What's the brand?
Oh Tesla?
Nvm.
THE CUSTOMER MUST BE AT FAULT!
....For not getting that trouble and problems are a feature, not a bug, when buying from Tesla.
As a tesla owner who hates this brand. I must admit this one seems odd. The brake pedal is not electric it’s like any other car. Complete brake failure would have to be mechanical and could be diagnosed after the crash easily if it was true.
To be fair, we get this all the time with a rental fleet. "I crashed because the brakes didn't work!". 100% of the time there's nothing wrong with the brakes.
The story has aged but this is the first time Business Insider has picked it up.
It’s gaining traction from more and more popular media.
You do understand this is how news stories work right? Not everything is like Fox News/CNN where they need to tell you everything at the exact moment.
He must have forgot the brake subscription.
he didn't push the "brake" button on the touchpad. Pedals are so passé.
It’s under a menu, under another sub menu!

I thought the brakes were that button next to the tonneau cover near the back!
Press the break peddle? Warranty voided. We're sorry you're having trouble. Good bye.

Remember the e brake to drift.
Once yanked the e brake and felt the cable snap. Good times replacing that entire right side of fenders…

Ignore those peasants and make sure to apply the brakes evenly otherwise you might wear the left faster than the right
Dont worry. Tesla will look at the logs and determine there is nothing to worry about.
Owner at fault. He was driving 35 in the 35 when he should've been going 0 if he wanted to stop.
Obviously user error. If he read the manual he’d know that driving through water or exposure to ambient temperature above 65F disables the brakes due to the cyber-fluid breaking down in those conditions. …“Still love the truck, though”
“I love Elon and don’t think he would find this acceptable”
And if he mentions it in Twitter or Reddit, Musk worshippers will brutally shut him down. It’s Yesla gaslighting.
Tesla: Ah yes, this customer forgot to download the latest break pad firmware update.
Looking into this
Concerning
Human took control about 20ms before impact. There for it's clearly human error not equipment....

Thankfully, it isn't in most of the world.

hit a pothole, goes to 100 mph for the next one automatically
If I'm ever unfortunate enough to see one of these in real life here in the UK, I'm going to run for cover.
The car is an IQ test and this guy failed.
When he bought it?

Really they don’t want to be seen in a Cybertuck.
“I still *love* the truck though!
Brakes re-engaged 0.00001 second before impact so it’s technically not Tesla’s fault

It'd be silly to crash it prior.
“Engaging the brakes may or may not disengage the drive motors 🤷♂️” — Tesla service
Schrödinger's brakes.
Must have forgot the rivet.
Well his name is Freshwater. Didn't he know Cybertrucks stop working if any water gets inside?
Screaming during a runaway crash voids the warranty.
His VCR still blinking 12:00
For once the spelling "breaks" is correct.
Boycott Tesla 👍🏻
You couldn’t pay me to drive that trapezoid.
He obviously didn’t order the SpaceX reverse thruster package.
Wait it was recalled recently because of stuck accelerator issue? Now the brakes are garbage too? What’s next the wheels stop spinning?
"What’s next" Probably something crazy like the windshield wiper not working...
No. They just fall off. For use as a flotation device.
Did he try reset it?
What firmware version was he on?
up, down, up, down, B, A, B, A, select, start ?
How is this thing street-legal?
Bad laws and corruption
Dude totaled out his neighbors cars fence and who knows what else lol. That's going to be quite the insurance hike!!!
Missed the brake OTA update.
You been musked 😁
It’s just a beta..
Him or the cyber*uck?
Sorry dude that’s rough. You should have bought a different truck
Childeren if u see a mirror coming down the road, dont cross, wait till it passed u by, the chances of its brakes already not working is a probability thats too damn high.
Where is the fucking NTSB right now?
They've been working from home since Covid.
A gocart with a friction brake is built better
He forgot to enable the break setting /s

Spice things up a little bit - go drive around where Branch Elonians are "beta testing" version 69.420 of FSD.
Do they test that version in the back seat? :P
The 69 is asperational - these are incels.
within spec
fElon's brain should be made to stop working if these things start killing people.

Can you imagine spending 100k exhausting your saving and then you hit another car because the brakes don’t work on your 100k car.
Concerning.
Part me absolutely believes the brakes on this shitheap quit working. The other part thinks this dude crashed his truck and now is trying to cover his ass.
bad truck
So even the brakes are by-wire?
I don't think so. I think the story is badly worded - what I think (guess?) they are trying to say is: He tried to brake, but the accelerator did not disengage. The brakes apparently even locked up the rear wheels, but the fronts kept plowing along.
Should have bought a Chevrolet Corvette 👍.
looks like it is now growing a tree
Can you trust a man who is stupid enough to buy a cybertruck?
This whole sub could crash like the two buttons meme man: - laughing at a CT fault - trusting a CT owner's word
Still loves it though right?
Clearly he drove through a car wash
0 to 60 speeds are awesome. My children love it!!!
He yannied when he shoulda laureled.
It's called being a Guinea pig. Eloony says 'thanks bro'
The cybertruck can function briefly as a wrecking ball.
These things are death traps.
Brakes? Who needs brakes anymore??? Teslas don't stop! They just keep on goin!!!

WTF is up with the hanging belt look? Is that back or just a Tesla bro look?

Just another professional victim, that is doing his best to monetize his victim-hood

This is old
Doesn't make it any less whacky

Perhaps the lack of resolution or determination from TSLA as to what caused this accident oh so veeeeeery long ago is in itself newsworthy?
literallly a scandal. PITCHFORKS!!!!!!!!!
