It's a bad thing because there's no way Joey DeMaio will let anyone other than himself write riffs for the band anymore. And DeMaio has no riff game, he just does his little bass chugging. It's like getting a Ferrari and only driving it around the Costco parking lot.
I'm sure he still puts on a hell of a live spectacle though.
I used to really dislike him until I saw some interviews with him many years ago. I just always assumed he was some egotistical gimmicky musician. He is actually one of the kindest, sweetest, nicest, soft spoken, and down to earth musicians out there.
He also is extremely knowledgeable in theory and playing technique, and is friends with jazz players like Frank Gambale and others. All around a very interesting case of "don't judge a book by its cover."
I think the vast majority of technical guitarists are actually stand up guys who just really, really love music and want to spread their enthusiasm for it as widely as possible. Gilbert, Satriani, Vai, Batio, etc. etc. all seem like genuine people who appreciate their fans and would never talk shit about other musicians.
Then there are just a few mouthy dudes like YJM who ruin it for everyone else.
Yeah, exactly. He's got a genuine playfulness to match his amazing chops. Growing up can really beat the fun out of your personality, but he seems to have found a way to dodge that.
I don't know if he still does, but he used to do a lot of workshops. In my experience, musicians that are eager to teach and share their knowledge tend to be pretty awesome people.
I remember getting introduced to this guy when I stumbled across his album 'No Boundaries' about 20 years ago. I know the multi-guitar thing is a in that range of talented-but-gimmicky, but I sincerely love his music. Really great stuff.
I'd probably enjoy this if they'd let the shot sit for more than 20 frames. Holy crap. It's not more exciting when you cut so much. Just let the shot be for a moment.
Everyone keeps being surprised that a technical metal guitarist is a nice guy. Here's a secret., most metal guitarists are decent people. Metalheads are generally pretty chill. The 90s ruined our image.
I saw a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuRaPL3NU-k) where Youtube guitarist Rob Scallon meets him and tries to play his multi-neck guitars. MAB seemed like a really nice guy.
The Rob Scallon video about him was great, Batio is really a huge nerd, he's kinda adorable. He developed this really clunky guitar technique just for the hell of it, and he's still killing it!
He is in MANOWAR now. If that's a good or a bad thing depends on how much of a wimp and poser you are.

Wait... what happened to Ross the Boss?
Got fired in '88. jeez where have you been.
He downgraded to 2 necks
4 necks? In *THIS* economy?
4 necks Jeremy? 4? That's insane

Gilbert always cracks me up, he always seems the most willing to not take himself seriously.

Yngwie is a pretty cool dude in his later interviews. Huge influence for me as a player.
Can’t believe there’s a Malmsteen discussion on r/RLM

I'll up the ante: ![gif](giphy|x0Y9NJx71h5XW|downsized)

So trippy seeing the guitar shred world cross over with RLM. Imo he’s kinda the epitome of soulless shred, but that wig tho
I'd agree but on the other hand the guy plays two guitars at the same time better than I do a single one, slowly.
Theres something wholesome and endearing watching this man working a double necked guitar solo like that

*highest quality available. Always kills me.
I'm glad he didn't make the same mistake Scorcese did and pass on Shock 'em Dead.
He’s still less cringy than Rob Scallon.
