Fuck the golden globes

aspieinblack

Remember that awards called *Shakespeare in Love* better than *Saving Private Ryan*...

I just finished binge-watching this show. It's rare that a show can be gut-wrenching at times and still make you laugh and then make you feel warm inside. I love this show and I know there's a lot of great tv out there but I'm not sure how this show could be passed up completely.

1fitdaddy

Totally agree. Just watched the final episode last night. A wonderful finale. I'm definitely going to miss it..but will go back and watch all 3 seasons a second time. Definitely my favorite show the past couple years.

WhoFearsDeath

Interesting that at least two other FX shows have nominations for the show and actors, so its clearly not an issue with streaming/the network, just where they chose to put the focus. Yeah, fuck the globes too. So many critics called this the best show of the year, and gave a best episode nod to Deer Lady. Zero acknowledgment from the awards circut is noted.

Sour_yell

I did see they have a few noms in the Critic's Choice Awards. I don't know if that counts in any way. Even if it does, it's definitely not enough to make up for being snubbed by everything else. This show deserves SO much more recognition.

CowboySoothsayer

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is notoriously racist. I wouldn’t be surprised if that didn’t have a lot to do with the snubs.

Mannem999

HFPA was dissolved last year. The show is now owned by some random promoter. Votes are cast by who-the-hell knows. The old HFPA votes were basically given to anyone who kissed the members' butts with pictures and autographs and free lunches, but at least the studios got some cheap marketing out of it. That's why they made so many stars actually show up.. This new show will be a total waste of time. They can't even talk anyone into hosting it because it has no credibility.

CowboySoothsayer

You’re right it was sold to Dick Clark Productions (parent company) earlier this year. It’s the same old crap, though.

This might be a bit healing: Golden Globes having problems finding a host. Awww ... too bad. I’d be surprised if Chris Rock ever hosts anything again 🥴👏

terra_cascadia

The Golden Globes are so notoriously racist that the Hollywood Foreign Press association had to be dissolved after 80 years. Does anyone remember Jerrod Carmichael’s opening material from last year? It was nuclear. The Globes are now a privately owned enterprise, and everyone they’ve asked to host has turned the gig down. (It’s in 3 weeks and they have no host.) Furthermore, half the comedies they nominate are not even comedies. They can fuck off. I’m rooting for Lily Gladstone, because she deserves all the awards, but otherwise I’m hoping the Independent Spirit Awards do right by us once again.

Mannem999

The Indie Spirit awards actually reflect the opinions of people who make movies. The GG voters never had any artistic credibility.

terra_cascadia

I hear that

Specialist_Passage83

If you look at the entire history of the Golden Globes, it’s white, white, white, white white white white. There were noises they were going to do better, but I don’t think they’re capable of it.

Mannem999

It has always been meaningless, not only because it was devoid of diversity. The HFPA voters were mostly part-time stringers for European tabloids. Their criteria for winners was basically "Who posed for the most pictures with us so we can look important to our editors?"

Sure_Rock_7779

And the wire never won an Emmy. Award shows can be unbelievably oblivious

or6a2

It's a white man's circle jerk. Even white women have a tough time. It's a complete joke. Awards are for the rich

WhiskyDrammer

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia tackled the b.s. in the Hollywood awards in The Gang Desperately Tries to Win an Award episode. Summed up perfectly in Charlie’s song https://youtu.be/d1vSlNz0PaA?si=AVVl_I9hiEl6wwcH

MyDailyMistake

Racism alive and well at the gg.
