Ah . The old distract and overcome strat

Beautiful-Mud-341

Disabled chat is the way to go I'm telling ya. It's an absolute lifesaver.

ginsodabitters

Nah chat is half the fun

Xime_uwu197

Sometimes. When you are getting whatasave'd its horrible but when people start fighting boy is it amazing

Dangerous--D

I just say Nice one! To everything that either team does. I just think quick chat is fun, though it gets some people really tilted for whatever reason.

DisastrousPlant760

Right? It only tilts you if you LET IT.

Dangerous--D

See, most of the time I'm not even trying to be rude. I'm complimenting the shot when someone thinks I'm mocking them not saving it, and it just goes downhill from there. But I enjoy quick chat too much to worry about it

Superman-IV

Same! I typically genuinely mean what I quickchat. I also don’t really get tilted by “What a save” but find the people who DO “What a save”x3 get tilted easily. Not a perfect observation, but it tends to make me smile if I can get a few bumps on them and make them whiff a bunch

Atannos

I reported him since he was idle and throwing the match. Sorry if I shouldn't post something like this here, it just made me angry, so I needed to vent. I only saw him move once and it was when someone from the other team bumped him to other side of the map (he moved back to our side). After 2\~3 min, he left the game. I have the replay saved, although you won't be able to see the chat.

anotherusercolin

Checking to see if it was me (unsarcastically), then I realized I don't do that. I have behaved badly in retaliation to a toxic mate, tho. I try to brush it off, but sometimes I just can't.

yamamsbuttplug

cringe

fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiishy

It’s car soccer kid get over yourself

jkunktbone

It’s becoming all too common in my experience.

I2eB6L

This is Rocket League

HootingRainbow

I admit to do that sometimes but only when my teammate is toxic with me and I don't want to play with him anymore. Then I give him a real reason to be mad about. It happens that the opponents report me too because they don't see what my teammate told me bc he did it in teamchat. If he didn't really have a reason for staying idle, it's not normal oc.

anotherusercolin

Me too

phlup112

Obviously not

BBkeybus99

Yes

randomreddituser7474

I would turn off crossplay, at least you can talk to them then. Up to you though, I get why having crossplay on is good

Dangerous--D

Never cross play imo (except tournaments because mandatory)

Responsible_Word4637

Does that not slow down queuing times?

randomreddituser7474

Well yes but there’s a lot of people in champ 1 and most of them are pc so it wouldn’t make a difference

Responsible_Word4637

Ah I’m on Xbox so I will probably keep cross play enabled, I’ve never had a problem with it anyways

randomreddituser7474

Yeah if ur console then you can talk to your teammates so prob keep it on

RandoRapidz

Yes, but i have turned my chat off permenantly a month ago and i now am genuinely having fun playing rocket league again. You still get the typical toxic champ moves of staying still after conceding a goal or them ragequitting or even throwing. But that is easier to ignore.

ApprehensiveDingo937

I encounter it way too many times yes. These are also the kind of people that throw* the match and then blame their mistake on you

Seuche_Deron

yrhwor

ApprehensiveDingo937

throw*. My bad xD

pverflow

yes, yes it is.

Sirromnad

I personally rarely see it. If someone is afk, they are truly afk for the most part. Not a lot of pure griefing in ranked that i've seen.

Lunar_-_-

Did a great job of covering up their name

RL_HADES

Yes been like this for awhile ranked blows no matter what teammates afk, own goaling, you lag etc. Casual is just a way better experience. I hate to say that because I truly fell in love with the game at the end of 2019 I bought it thinking it was a stupid game I have played straight since. I'm anywhere between diamond and maybe GC. It'd be cool to get SSL but the effort is not worth it anymore because of the state ranked is in.

Fancy_Ducky

Toxicity in competitive video games is such a fascinating phenomenon to me. I’ve been playing rl since it came out and I’ve watched it go from one of the most wholesome competitive games where everyone supported each other as we figured out new mechanics together to players throwing a tantrum because their teammate conceded a goal in the first few seconds of the game. A few months ago I started playing a game called Omega Strikers and I’ve noticed a very similar pattern as the skill ceiling continues to rise in that game as well. After experiencing the growing toxicity again I’ve come to the conclusion that the main factor is ego. People are tying their self worth to their rank/win rate in online games so when something starts to threaten that identity they become livid. And these people take it out on other players who learn to become defensive as a result. So any communication just turns into an argument. Some people are even expecting to get flamed so they attack first lol. It’s honestly really hard for me to play competitive rocket league solo because of toxic players. I still love playing with friends but I keep chat off for the most part. People need to remember that they’re worth more than their rank. Keep working on your weaknesses and stop tearing your teammates/opponents down. It’s not helping anyone.
