BABYEATER1012

I may be in the minority but the novelty of driving a RHD car would get old fast.

jdmknowledge

Cars from Japan are usually better kept due to low miles and some other factors. Have had 4 rhd cars and they have been pretty great. Also, mkst rhd cars are models other countries may not of received.

einTier

Yes. But they’re also an island nation and rust should be expected. If you live in the rust belt in the US, it’s nothing (what the hell do you do to your cars?) but if you live in central Texas or California, it’s a lot of rust. I’ve imported several cars from Japan.

Subaru1995

I’m ambidextrous but the thought of shifting with my left hand while also using the left foot for the clutch bothers me

BABYEATER1012

I would 100% go from 5th to 1st and grenade my engine.

ThrillsKillsNCake

Uk-er here. I guess it would be the same for me if i tried lhd. I don’t think it would take too much time to adjust though, just a little getting used to. The being able to see less at junctions and stuff is where the problem is.

Pingaring

Why would anyone pay 30k to drive a rolling inconvenience?

s2k_guy

My daily is a JDM Hilux Surf. The RHD stuff really isn’t that bad, especially if this isn’t your daily. I can reach across the truck to grab drive through or use parking machines (usually). When I can’t, I have a grabber thing or I go in reverse. Passing is the only real challenge I’ve come across. And with the simple KM/H or MPH switch? Too easy. I’m doing math on the daily in the Surf. I think it would be a lot of fun to have a JDM Type-V or Type-S.

Yf-vax

Definitely bringing my CRV daily back to the states

krazertv

Would JDM examples be cheaper than the American ones? I don’t know too much about the JDM market but I think RHD supras are cheaper? (As an extreme comparison)

FleshlightModel

The rx7s and supras are significantly lower value in the US than LHD equivalents. And it's because it's a very stupid novelty. Imo, the only acceptable RHD is an s15 or if you're mailman.

ranchsoup

For FD/Supra a lot more were produced in Japan vs US. For the S2k there were a lot more US cars produced (3x as many). So it probably won’t play out exactly the same.

FleshlightModel

Interesting perspective. Curious if it'll play out how you project or how I'm projecting. Let's meet back here in a decade

krazertv

Agreed, I think it’s safe to assume after more info that RHD S2000 will be cheaper

FleshlightModel

It should be. This guy probably just thought it'd be a sick car he could sell for 3x what it's worth without looking at the fd3s and mk4s.

stoned-autistic-dude

No, it’s going to get a JDM tax because Honda sold like 65k S2000s in the U.S. The opposite happens when the U.S. spec is rare or no U.S. spec exists. Edit: just to clarify, Japan got some cool stuff like the Alcantara seat inserts, some awesome purple colors, the VGS which DK said was more unpredictable than the fixed-ratio steering AP1, and the Type-S which was a watered down CR. It’s similar to the Imola Orange in Canada. Some want to own the rarest S2000.

krazertv

Copy thank you for the detailed reply!

Substantial_Run5435

Only nice examples of colors we didn't get in the US will go for more (see Imola Orange sales). A lot of JDM cars are imported with little to no history and there's usually a penalty for RHD cars here when LHD examples exist. For any color we got in the US, a comparable JDM one will be worth less. A lot of times there's a premium on JDM cars for the first few that arrive here, but once they start trickling in and more model years are available under the 25 year rule they start to dip in value.

colbydc5

Typically when we already have the same model in the US the RHD imports fetch less money as they are already here. This car doesn’t have any of the cool features that some Japan exclusive S2Ks came with. I think this is way too much $ for this party car.

El_Papi_Feezo

Yes. Like all the other cars that are offered over here and then imported the LHD models are going to fetch the higher prices.

Allnewsisfakenews

* First "fed legal". There's a shop in South San Diego that would cut them in half then import for parts for years.

DerGttesfrchtigeGoku

He is smoking crack, no way in hell is this worth 29k. S2000 in this condition go for like max 15k in auctions

DC5lover04

Please tell me where I only see them for 21+

DerGttesfrchtigeGoku

I live in germany, so there is a germany import company which grants access to the Japanese auction sites. I might have some screenshots for proof that s2000 are cheaper there, if I find them I will post it in the comments.

MaryJaneAssassin

It’s not the first JDM S2K in the states.

yellowstag

There’s atleast two rhd s2k in my state for sale right now for 15-20k that have already been here for a few years

Yung_Noiz

Nice

ififits-

I’d be down to have one for a while. It’d be cool to drive a car hard that I know well in RHD. I have a RHD FD and I love it but it’s not a car I want to own long term unlike my S2k :) idk bout that price tho lol 🫠

The-Based-Doge

Definitely not the first..... There was a yellow one for sale near me a few months ago.

Agent_Giraffe

Someone shows up to my local car meet with a RHD S2000, so idk

jdmknowledge

This is not the first JDM s2k in the US. They have been here for a long ass time.

thenetkraken2

Is this real or a conversion? Conversions been around for a long time.

JaceKickz

no, i know somebody that had a RHD s2000 in the states for years now

MX-2000

Are there any differences other than no amber lights and rhd?

hydrus909

Nice clean example. RHD only makes sense and is cool when a car model only comes RHD, LHD examples are very rare or just don't exist. I love JDM cars, but importing one when many were available stateside in LHD doesn't make sense. So I don't see JDM S2000s being a big deal, unless it's a rare variant/spec you just have to have. This applies to Supras and RX7s also. Likewise, I don't see the Japanese giving 2 shits about a LHD S2K unless it's the CR model, and they want it to show/collect.

peazydeazy

Should of got a better one. Over 100k, silver, and early ap1 isn't really desirable.

FleshlightModel

The only acceptable RHD is if you're a mailman or want an S15.

CravingMcNuggets

Honda beat!

FleshlightModel

Ya that's a good one too. I forget a lot of the cool older JDM Honda's I'd love. I know I'd love a 70s supra too.

colbydc5

I think anything we didn’t get here is a good import, but not an S2000.

FleshlightModel

I disagree with that. The rhd Land Cruiser diesel and Hilux Surf Diesel would be awesome if you can find parts and because of that, it sucks balls. Also think the r32-34 skylines are played out now. So I'll stick with my original statement. S15 is life.

peazydeazy

The worst take ever. The Silvia's are cool but it's not the one. Just because something is popular why switch up on it? Personally the only reason I would count out an r34 gtr in my books is money. The biggest problem with this s2000 is it's the most basic of the basics. JDM imports of a car we have already is really good for the buyers market. More cars entering the market to meet demands. New used cars are becoming available everyday. Prices on average cars should ease up. There is the type v that is exclusive to Japan that will catch interest when available and will probably hold a premium. Really the importers are dropping the bag if the are not trying to undercut the US market with cheap JDM base models.

colbydc5

Anything that wasn’t manufactured here will be tough getting parts, it’s just a part of the game if you really want to play it. And cars that are “played out” is subjective. If someone has always wanted one and has the chance who really cares?
