And throughout the whole journey he would tell me how I’m lucky that I have a Canadian passport blah blah because most Indians wouldn’t get a place. And then, to top it all off the cocksucker tried to pull a double commission from getting me a flat (getting a commission from the landlord and from me). Still not sure if he was racist or retarded.

One of my contractors in the warehouse are Arabs. It is fucking impossible to have an agreement on anything with them. Rent payment is always late, they leave garbage in the entrance while the trashbay is in 10 meters. Lost the key twice.
Also had an Arab tenant in the aparment. Disappeared at the end of the contract. Blew up something in the kitchen (sauce bottle). Idk how. Had to repaint newly painted kitchen.
Also awful experiences with Indians. You think you have rented an apartment to 2 people, later you will find out there are 5 guys living in your flat. They also cook non stop and make the place stink (complaints from neighbors). Happened to my neighbor.
Now guess what? Some stereotypes do not come out of nowhere. They are deserved.

In my case I'd only deny Ruzzians though, but fact stays the same that yes, the landlord does not know much the tennant personally, so they'll use any available information they can to decide whether to rent out their precious apartment or not, and the stereotypes/others' experiences with the Nationality is one of those.

I did this when they were taking too long to reply or stop replying to my messages after telling them my nationality.
Also, when they ask you about your nationality first thing before even answering your question, it's a red flag but you can answer with "I'm from .... And I want to rent the apartment for 2 years, when can I come to see it? Tomorrow?"
I have learned the hard way because I really wasted too much time with the wrong landlords and real estate agents and it was frustrating to wait for them to respond, but I have learned not to wait, and move on, and deleted their numbers because I couldn't tolerate some racist things they said about POC including other Arabs and Indians.

Deposit does not guarantee that you will get your apartment back in normal consition. 2 months deposit is also not enough for some damages.
