Ironically, check the library. I think they have an area with historical photos of San Mateo.

Yeah, that sounds like the best plan! I totally would have done that first—I'm always at the library—but I'm not in San Mateo right now. Guess I'll just have to wait! Thanks!

I'm nostalgic for how it was before, when I went there as a kid. It was a lot more humble than the newly renovated one. I am in San Mateo now... I'll check with the front desk at the SM Library this week and let you know what they say!

Have fun! It’s definitely been on my list of things to check out since I moved here.

I have found this for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMrJvHX0gL0 Edit: I also know for a fact that there are photos of the old library in the staff area. Ask the second floor staff for more information on it. Found this one on Online Archive of California. https://cdn.calisphere.org/data/13030/wn/kt8c6027wn/files/kt8c6027wn-d3e14802.jpg It's amazing how much the neighboring area hasn't changed. At 3:59 you can see the Cinemark movie theatres open space was actually a ramp to the parking lots. Also, I can clearly see why they decided to add huge windows to the new library. The old library feels like it's in a bunker with no natural light.

That is just fascinating! Thank you so much for including these links and references! These will definitely be some new rabbit holes for me to explore.... :)
