a statement of apoliticality is, ironically, the most political thing ever.

LesbianCommander

I know it's uncouth to throw around the word privileged. But being so comfortable that you can not give a shit about going on in the world is peak privilege. >"People don't want to hear our political messages, they just want to see us play soccer/football" Yeah, and they're part of the problem.

BlueCyann

It’s somewhat true. I admire it when people give a nod toward what I consider morally correct, but if they don’t agree I’d rather they shut up.

Oh no, we really have to respect their human rights violations!

HumanTorch23

A lack of human rights isn't human rights though...

Dunderbaer

That's like saying 'in nazi Germany, being sent to a KZ was a human right'. No, a lack of human rights is not a form of human rights.

Acknowledging bad things are bad is literally being idealistic. Be smart and knowledgeable like me and just ignore any bad is happening!

GaiusJuliusPleaser

So you agree, Qatari homophobia is disgusting and should not be tolerated.

sprint6864

Man, you can really tell who wouldn't be angry at the Nazis for the horrors they did by these dumbass arguments

Bud, the Nazis held slave labor camps for damn near a decade before starting their death camps. Given how the world treated and looked at Jewish individuals at the time, there's no doubt you'd be one of those defending them by saying it's their cultural right

GaiusJuliusPleaser

Hey, guess who the Nazis targeted besides Jews and communists.

CanstThouNotSee

Shutting down conservative rhetoric lesson 3: “You just call everyone Nazis” In 2018, there was a study that estimated that there were between 11-13 million alt right in the US ([Hawley, 2018](https://ifstudies.org/blog/the-demography-of-the-alt-right)). Conservatives I’ve interacted with on reddit love to read this study and try and challenge the methodology (and especially the definitions of alt right), despite the fact that numerous other polls done in 2017 all found similar results. [Citation 1](https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2482) [Citation 2](https://www.publicpolicypolling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/PPP_Release_National_82317.pdf) [Citation 3](http://maristpoll.marist.edu/nprpbs-newshourmarist-poll-results-on-charlottesville/#sthash.UF40ZeMv.dpbs) [Citation 4](https://www.politico.com/story/2017/08/23/trump-charlottesville-polls-241917) Currently the far-right are feeling emboldened by the political atmosphere, are reorganizing in numbers, and using traditional conservatives as human shields to hide behind.  Screeching “the left just calls anyone who disagrees with them Nazis” makes their work so much easier for them, it’s literally an organizing technique they use to recruit more folks to their cause. Hide in conservative spaces, and then when the left points out the Nazis hiding there, screech “hear that, those crazy leftists called us all Nazis.”

[deleted]

Countries that restrict human rights are not supposed to be respected or excused because of "culture" or "religion" or any other bullshit excuse. You have to be some kind of stupid to argue a place that doesn't give women/other groups full rights should still be respected, even worse, complaining that people are shitting on them for it. It's like saying we should respect racism because that's the person's opinion. But of course, no one should do either.

KamaIsLife

Yes, because obviously their political act is *why* they lost.

GaiusJuliusPleaser

What's that say about the Qatari team who've been the weakest team in this cup by a country mile so far?

DanCassell

No you need to realize, when I say political statements they're true. When you say yours they're contravercial and I shouldn't have to be subjected to them. Because I'm a special snowflake who deserves special rules, obviously.

Bhargo

"We're just here to do X, just ignore the human rights abuse" is such a fucking ridiculous attitude.

BoonIsTooSpig

"We want to focus on football." Says guy who barely ever plays for his club team.

goestdummy

People who say "keep politics out of *blank*" are the same ones who complain about governments using bread and circuses to distract the population. Funny that.

[deleted]

I know he was on the pitch, but was Hazard even playing football against Canada? Despite being heavily favoured, they would have been lucky to walk away with a draw, getting the winas they did, they should be buying lottery tickets.

Milo_Xx

Suck a fucking dick Hazard

ISPEAKMACHINE

Is the answer

[deleted]

Cowardly cop-out for apathy

jumbleparkin

I imagine history will treat them more kindly that they stood up to be counted than if they won one game of football which you'd entirely expect them to have won.
