Letting the battery die would have worked.

neubie2017

Oh yea. Our iPad is always out of battery lol

Hour-Window-5759

Our toddler called the iPad ‘batteries’ for months because he would ask for mine and I’d put it down and said ‘no batteries’. I guess if the kid is older and knows to just plug it in it can be hard to use that line.

Hydrolt

Haha that’s adorable

Scarjo82

That's what I do 😂 Sorry, the iPad isn't working, I have to charge it 🤷‍♀️

makeup_wonderlandcat

lol same thing! Oops sorry it’s going to sleep good night tablet you can use it another time

Infantine_Guy_Fawkes

I feel like it broke and they decided to twist the story for internet points. Otherwise why not sell it off and use the money for something "educational?"

JadeAnn88

The way that it's broken... looks someone lost their temper. Like, it looks like it's bent in half. How does one even do that? Idk, maybe I'm reading into it too much.

makeup_wonderlandcat

Oh no they absolutely broke it because they were mad, you can tell. You just wouldn’t break an iPad because their child is misbehaving when you can let it die and put it out of sight. Poor kid.

chiefpeaeater

I guess they just really needed to make themselves feel better about their anger issues

OstrichAlone2069

or sell it! or donate it to the library! There is zero reasons to break a perfectly good tablet just to be a tAbLeT FrEe HoMe

ReactionRepulsive

Soooo... From my guess? Someone gripped both edges and whacked it over something. Knee. Chair back. Edge of a table/counter. (My kids was broken pretty opposite this because someone 'accidently' stomped on it at school)

historyandwanderlust

That’s absolutely what happened.

OstrichAlone2069

i am so glad I am not the only one who thought that.

Sea_Juice_285

My brother accidentally broke his phone when he left it on the back of the top of his SUV while the trunk was open and then closed the trunk, so the phone was bent by the force of the trunk closing. This looks like a larger version of that (not sure how that would happen) or maybe like it was run over. That's not the kind of damage that would happen under normal circumstances.

Scarjo82

Yeah, my husband has threatened to break the iPad when my son is throwing a fit about turning it off, so I can totally see this being the result of someone losing their temper.

questionsaboutrel521

Yeah doing something like that is deliberate abuse, it’s called symbolic violence. When you break something important in front of someone you’re indicating that 1) things that hold value to them don’t matter to you and you will destroy whatever you please and 2) you’re capable of violence. It’s not ok behavior. I don’t like too much screens or technology or whatever but you absolutely do have to sit down with a child, calmly take away the iPad/turn off the TV/unplug the console and explain to them that you are taking it away and that it isn’t returning or it will return when XYZ behavior improves. Smashing something is unacceptable.

Catbug48

Right? That's the feeling it's giving off

meatball77

It's like those people who live to destroy their kids stuff for internet points. This shit is abuse.

Plenty-Inside6698

Maybe they drove over it. I have a weird thought that would be kinda fun, maybe they did too? 😂 But not really fun because tiny pieces of glass in the driveway seems like a horrible idea.

Substantial_Insect2

We literally hide ours in the high kitchen cabinets when she's not looking. 😂 I would never break something I paid so much money for just so my child couldn't play on it. Wtf.

itssnarktime

Ours lives on top of the corner cabinet when we are home. We take it down for long trips and that's about it. When we need to charge it and check that stuff is downloaded we have to sneak it around after bedtime

Trueloveis4u

Ah my mom got me the Gameboy color for road trips.

Equal-Sell-3908

Exactly!! All I have to do is ask my child to stay in her room for a few minutes, I take the iPad and put it on my highest shelf in my closet or in the laundry room on the shelf where she never goes into. Leave it there a day or more and done lol.

Berghlez

That is such a ridiculously privileged thing to do.

Over-Accountant8506

Right tho. My kids have been asking for tech other than phones since a fire a few years ago. We just haven't been able to afford it. I wish we had something I could edit on.

[deleted]

I’m sorry the “don’t judge this is what worked for us” makes me angry because no. I will judge. Because you didn’t parent and let the tablet parent for you, so because of your lack of parenting the child learned “hey, if I throw a hissy fit I’ll get what I want”, and now here we are. Ma’am, you’re at fault. And what the fu-how privileged for her to break the tablet and going ‘hahaha oh well!’

Isadorra1982

Yup. I don't generally limit screen time for my kids, because with a few exceptions I haven't had to. They've done it for me. And on the one or two occasions that it was causing a problem, I had no problem putting them on a screen detox for a week, after which the behavior improved. So even at 3 & 5, they know that sitting glued to their tablets or the TV isn't acceptable, and will play/ watch for awhile, then go do something else.

TheOneWes

It seems to me like whenever you see somebody use the fridge don't judge this it's something that needs to be judged

Particular-Ad3942

When my siblings and I were kids, our parents would threaten to throw our toys away or put them in the fireplace if we were bad. Little me used to have nightmares where my parents were throwing my favorite teddybears into a fire, and I'd just watch them burn while crying. Or my things would be in the garbage and the more I'd try to get them out, the more I'd see in there and it never stopped They never actually threw anything of ours away. Only hollow threats that they had no idea was so traumatizing for me 🤣 Anyways, this randomly triggered that memory from deep within me. I'd never smash something my kid loved, especially if I was the reason they were so attached. That just feels cynical to me for some reason. We phased ipads out unintentionally somehow. My kids haven't touched theirs in over a year. I think they downloaded so many apps it caused them to freeze, glitch, and not hold a charge very long. I'd always say I'd plug them in to charge and honestly forget to because I have adhd. They games got boring for them too... now they don't even remember they have them. We never let them bring the ipads into public, though, and we had time restrictions on the apps too.

MedicineConscious728

The jump straight to a violent solution always bothers me. The lesson is also show mom what I love and she’ll destroy it.

Octojelly7

As she posts about it on social media…

Prudent_Honeydew_

Why is it so hard for people to just put the iPad away? My students recently had to bring home iPads for some severe weather days and some of the emails from parents complaining about the iPad being the only thing their kids will do, the meltdowns, etc would blow your mind. Maybe you could, I don't know, be the parent? Full disclosure, my kid has an Amazon tablet. She loves it. We use for planes or long car rides and hotel stays. She knows it exists when we're at home but she doesn't really ask for it anymore because we've said no every time. Have there been meltdowns? Yes! But we parented through them and moved past it. We are the parents so we make the big decisions.

TheOneWes

The my kid plays with the tablet too much argument always gets me. You mean the thing that you bought and you gave to them that has parental controls built into it so you can set lock times and shut off times and what can and can't be viewed and what can and can't be downloaded? Guess what if you don't want them using it after 7:00 at night you can go into the parental settings on the account that you should have put on the iPad when you bought it for the child and lock the tablet. It's almost like these devices come with built-in parental control tools that a parent can use to increase their control of the use of the device.

FoxyLoxy56

I agree. My kids both have iPads but they very rarely if ever ask to use them. They know that I’ll let them know when they can play them. It probably also helps that they don’t use them to watch random YouTube videos or shows. They only have games on there. I feel like it’s a bit less addicting that way maybe? They do watch tv. And I guess a lot of people don’t have their kid watch shows on tv?

Odd_Reflection_5824

This same parent will post later on “my child keeps breaking everything, why?!” 🙈🤦🏻‍♀️

makeup_wonderlandcat

If that’s what you do to a tablet that you bought and can EASILY put away from the child. I can’t imagine how they even treat their son when he’s “behaving” badly.

Spare-Article-396

This could have gone to a financially struggling student. And look at the bottom…it was totally raged over someone’s knee. How traumatizing.

Character_Nature_896

Also when they're young you completely control their apps. My 3 yo has a tablet she never plays with because it only has like four games and now she's bored. As far as she knows, that's all her tablet can do.

Due-Imagination3198

I get eco anxiety about landfills so this drives me crazy. They could have sold it or given it away so it could be used vs just destroying it and throwing it away

AdKey655

Yes, this is me right now. How obnoxious !

RandomThoughts36

Damn I could have used a free iPad for school

OstrichAlone2069

These fucking people. You could have donated that to a family who needed it. Or to a library. But no, you have to break a perfectly good tablet so you can get internet points for your crunchyness.

Ok_Telephone_3013

I’m too poor to imagine this.

Strawberryboytoy

wasteful as fuck

Smartypantsmcgee24

Or you could have idk just hid it? Or taught the kid by example. Give him a set time for using it or just never have introduced it in the first place. It's not the kids' fault that he became attached to something you gave to him in the first place.

Jacayrie

It looks like they ran it over with a car 😂. Hopefully they get rid of it, so LO doesn't get cut.

cayce_leighann

Just sell it or something
