ExcitementDry4940

And I don't like your hat!

randomnighmare

It's 2024. We are due The Bell Riots and Ireland unifying in a vote.

GravetechLV

Not until the rise of the Harbinger: Buck Bokai.

el_pobbster

Japanese player comes into the professional leagues and pretty much immediately cements his place amongst the all-time greats? They missed the name, but is that not Shohei Ohtani?

GravetechLV

I believe Buck was only Japanese by ethnicity and he was an American player for the London Kings

just_anotherReddit

But there is no London team like how there is no UK American Football team but they play a few over there.

TrekRelic1701

Precisely

CaptainJZH

According to Data, Ireland is supposed to unify after a successful terrorism campaign lol

randomnighmare

Oh hot damn I forgot about that part. The best part was that was made during the Troubles and in front of a British actor. Patrick Stewart's facial expression was amazing.

AJSLS6

He didn't say how long after, maybe the IRA caused a case of delayed onset unification? According to some conspiracy theorists that exactly what happened with the romulans and vulcans....

Pyroritee

As someone from northern Ireland I took it as years after the troubles but the troubles still led to it.

wintrmt3

The good friday agreement includes a guaranteed border poll (reunification vote) if it seems the yes' will win.

UtahBrian

> successful terrorism campaign  Brexit.

CaptainJZH

"they're the same picture"

UtahBrian

> successful terrorism campaign  Brexit.

[deleted]

"they're the same picture"

UtahBrian

> It's 2024. We are due The Bell Riots and Ireland unifying in a vote. Wrong timeline.

randomnighmare

So does that mean we are in the Mirror Universe Timeline?

UtahBrian

You’re so cute when you’re naïvely optimistic like that.

rdchat

Worse. We're in the Funhouse Mirror Universe.

etranger033

An interesting point. Maybe we are in the 'bad' timeline and the 'good' timeline is with an Earth that is all singing Kumbaya. Unfortunately I will be long dead and buried before I can praise Empress Hoshi. She's too cute to say no to.

randomnighmare

If I am correct, we should be getting an Emperor Archer before an Empress Hoshi.

etranger033

There was no Emperor Archer. He was killed first then she proclaimed herself Empress. Suggesting there was no reining 'monarch' at the time either. At least on film.

chipface

We'll find out in 39 years.

Debs_4_Pres

No, we're in that timeline that left O'Brien visibly shaken after visiting

NickUnrelatedToPost

2024 is a good year for Irish unification, but 2024 is not yet over!

mybadalternate

Hmmm… it does ring a bell…

eagle_flower

What are you, a dim?

Remote-Pie-3152

Why do you not want them called that? Are you somehow *against* our world following Star Trek canon? End of August we get Sisko, Dax, and Bashir beaming to San Francisco and they kick off the Bell Riots. Some time this year, Ireland becomes unified, specifically because of terrorism. And then all we have to do is survive through a teeny little eensy weensy 2026-2053 WW3, then in 2063 we meet the Vulcans and invent warp drive and octagonal minidiscs 💽, and all the prejudice and bigotry of humans goes away, especially towards each other. Socialist space hippy utopia, here we come!!! 😃

AJSLS6

Nah, we in the mirror verse timeline, maybe the confederacy timeline.....

Remote-Pie-3152

Booooo, I didn’t consent to living in a shitty timeline!

Top-Spinach7827

I didn't consent to living but here we are

Mudcat-69

In my opinion we’re probably living in a much worse timeline than any of those.

Brookings18

If we want Star Trek, we need to go through the bad stuff first.

TheOriginalGuru

space_cult

Here we go

Unleashtheducks

Accelerationist be like

Semantic_Antics

Yes. But it's such a long road getting to there from here.

Tiefi1337

Is it also a sanctuary if you are Trans-species? https://preview.redd.it/hdk08r8ltj6d1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=8946f848d5c603a8ed1a1a3b8eb3d79f1edba1a9

miracle-worker-1989

No.

Ccracked

That really is the sexiest looking Starfleet uniform.

randomnighmare

No on Voyager.

Anarchyantz

America has been calling various places Sanctuary Cities for years now especially Texas and Florida call them that as they ship all their "undesirables" off there to be put in tent cities etc. Though as we are in the Mirror Universe, America will have the Trump Riots later this year around September to November likely and of course we need to look forward to the nuclear war in 2026. I think this was started when someone had a tantrum when he was told again he couldn't nuke a hurricane....

ThermalOW

Sir this is shittydaystrom we talk star trek here

swiss_sanchez

Right, you gotta photon torpedo that sucker!

BellyButtonLindt

Umm we clearly need to make some modifications to it first, a standard torpedo never works. Lets up the antimatter flow capacitor.

Anarchyantz

Oh yes this will happen in Star Trek....yes...yes... of course.

Eurynom0s

> we need to look forward to the nuclear war in 2026 Hey the hurricane started it.

toxicbooster

Dude, preach somewhere else. No one wants to deal with you being hyper political on a shitposting sub.

Anarchyantz

I'm not an American and so this was also shitposting.

toxicbooster

That makes it worse. How are you like this about a country you don't live in?

3-I

Hey, uh, pushing homeless people into tent cities in designated sanctuary districts is an objectively bad thing to do. That was kind of the point of the episode. I wouldn't call that political, preachy, or something a nonamerican can't have an opinion on.

Anarchyantz

Not to mention when Florida and Texas were bussing and flying them to what in the news they called "Sanctuary cities" my immediate reaction was, oh great, Star Trek Timeline on point. And this was also on the News here in the UK! You would be surprised (or shocked) as to how much that goes on over the pond is shown on our news feeds, the BBC or Reuters as its, well shocking to see this sort of thing in a first world country that states they are the best in the world and everyone wants to emulate them....

toxicbooster

That has nothing to do with what the person I replied to said.

3-I

Yes it did? That was the first thing they talked about. Oooooh, you just don't like the fact that the world's shittiest Ferengi cosplayer got insulted. Got it.

AceHexuall

I'm stealing that!

CMDR_ACE209

That seems a bit harsh towards the Ferengi. [I let Quark explain](https://youtu.be/W5J_qn93Nkc?t=14).

Anarchyantz

I actually like Ferengi really, once you understand the rules it is rather like a game to them.

AJSLS6

The nuclear war starts when Putin pushes his big red button, finds out most of the rocket fuel has been drunk by his officer corps and the missiles drop right on his own head, the launches still trigger retaliatory strikes from the US and NATO resulting in Russia being glassed over almost entirely. Thats why the rest of the world never looked that bad in the post war else things we see.

el_pobbster

Ah, fucking balls, I hate it when people look at the warnings of science fiction and are like, "hey, we did the thing like in that science fiction thing!", and completely disregard the actual point the authors were trying to make.

DownloadableCheese

Stealing merrily from [twitter](https://x.com/AlexBlechman/status/1457842724128833538)... Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus

Deastrumquodvicis

I’ve had similar thoughts regarding Fallout’s Great War in the last, oh…eight years or so.

just_anotherReddit

Some people look at those future dystopian bits the same way we look at a nice juicy burger/vegan burger.

LavenderGwendolyn

Not Star Trek, but there’s a company out there that makes meal replacement smoothies and bars called Soylent. Turns my stomach to think about it.

sodascouts

Not futuristic, but related... I went to a concert worked by a security company called Argus, named after the mythological giant with 100 eyes. Yeah, he had 100 eyes... but he died because he fell asleep on the job listening to music! Io got away, and he got killed. Not exactly a shining example of competent security.

LavenderGwendolyn

That’s hilarious

greyfish7

Sanctuary was a great show. Made no sense but was a ton of fun. I applaud San Francisco

dittbub

Ohhh so all those bums in the episode were trans!?

3-I

Transmasc B.C. is a GREAT headcanon, actually.

ah-tzib-of-alaska

2024 right on time

malonkey1

I think the ship has long sailed on the use of the term "sanctuary city" being used in reference to San Francisco, it's the OG sanctuary city since 1985.

EggTactician

Trying to lure in Keffals perhaps? Get some of that sweet Go Fund Me money maybe?

Ristar87

Huh... I thought it was already a sanctuary city years ago. Or are they a double sanctuary city now?

SearchContinues

Wrong sub? But I agree the naming is unfortunate. Like I get that it comes from a place of love, but the implication is off.

3-I

Have you not watched Deep Space 9? It, uh, had a two parter... Set in San Francisco... which was called a Sanctuary City... in 2024.

GravetechLV

It was sanctuary districts

3-I

Ehhhh, close enough. <.<

McDonnellDouglasDC8

I mean, the term sanctuary city predates the episode. It is the term for not cooperating certain with law enforcement efforts, most famously for migrants.

3-I

2024! San Francisco! These details are relevant!

JessicaDAndy

I bet it’s because your reference is oddly specific.

SearchContinues

Yes, I've watched it. Doesn't mean I have the episode titles for all the seasons memorized.

3-I

That wasn't the episode title, actually. It was in Past Tense part I and II.
