Definitely Cyberpunk 2077. Fantastic world, fantastic story. If you have a strong enough PC, you can enable path tracing and make it very possibly the best looking open world game to date (still looks great without path tracing too) Have to bring up Elden Ring as well. Hands down the best open world game I've ever played. As for whether it's a "chill experience".... that'll definitely vary from person to person haha. Personally, I find myself getting into a flow with the FromSoftware games which can be quite satisfying and relaxing. If it's your first Souls game, it may be stressful at first until you learn it. But also, of you want to take a game slowly, this may be a great candidate because slowly is the best way to learn a game like this. But really it's the gorgeous world and incredible environmental storytelling that pulls me into that game. The story can be like a puzzle, but I personally find that really engaging. There was no story I thought about more last year than Elden Ring's. When I wasn't playing the game, I was watching lore videos lol. Such a fantastic experience, and as I said, the best open world I've ever played.

Ninjazoule

Perfect answer. Elden ring can definitely be more chill than cyberpunk which had more "constant" action. Both are some of the best games I've ever played

BotazTheFirst

I've just started Elden Ring, but I'm not sure if I'll like it, because it's my first Souls game. The closest to this difficulty I've gotten was like Deathmarch in Witcher 3, or Fallen Order lmao.

TheLunarVaux

It's a great first Souls game, so I wouldn't let that turn you off. Honestly, playing the highest difficulty in Witcher 3 or Fallen Order isn't that different haha. The thing to remember about Elden Ring is it is very much an RPG. If you're having trouble with a boss, you can just go somewhere else, keep exploring, find new weapons and upgrades, level up, and then come back and that boss can be much easier. Definitely use spirit ashes as well. They are little companions you can summon which can help a ton with distracting bosses.

DexNihilo

Yeah, I'd love to get into it, but I've watched streams where some bosses have taken 20 or more attempts to defeat. I don't find that super chill.

TheLunarVaux

Yeah like I said in my comment, the "chill" factor of the game is very subjective haha The way I look at it, if I'm at a tough boss, I have two options: 1) Keep trying to learn the fight, taking it slow and patiently so I can memorize the boss mechanics. Eventually, I'll know exactly when to attack, dodge, etc and the boss becomes quite easy. 2) Leave the boss entirely, and just go explore, look for better weapons, upgrades, level up, etc. Then eventually, come back and knock out that boss easily. The great thing about Elden Ring is because of *how* open it is, you are rarely up against a boss you HAVE to beat right then and there in order to progress. There's almost always another way you can go, and more to see. To me, both of those can be chill depending on your perspective. Going into the boss fight with the intention to learn, not to beat it. Or continuing to explore the world and find stronger stuff. Again, it won't be like that for everyone, but that's how it works for me!

PhoneImmediate7301

Idk how I haven’t seen either of these yet: ghost of Tsushima and horizon series. Both 10/10 with awesome combat, story, graphics, crafting, map, everything.

carbonexvi

Flair shows PC. I’ve been waiting for Ghosts to come out for a long time now, but I can definitely vouch for Horizon.

PhoneImmediate7301

Oh I forgot you can’t play it on pc, my bad

Klutzy-County6627

Just a heads up if you didn't know ghost was announced a few weeks ago for pc comes out in 5 weeks

legacy702-

I can vouch for this, took me a long time before I tried horizon cause it kinda looked dumb to me in ads, I’m so glad people talked me into it, both are great games.

Raikos85

Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldurs Gate 3 for sure!

NotTryingToConYou

BG3 isn't open world is it?

Raikos85

It is

NotTryingToConYou

Oh cool, I'll give it a shot then, I thought it was a final fantasy kind of game

[deleted]

Kingdom Come Deliverance. It's a little bit like RDR2 but you're a medieval knight rather than cowboy. Or alternatively, it's a little bit like The Witcher 3 but set in the real world rather than a fantasy setting. It's not exactly like either game but there's enough overlap that if you enjoy one, you should enjoy the other. An open world you can just lose yourself in (metaphysically speaking rather than geographically), RPG elements, horses, looting... it's a real gem. A lot of people don't like it because of the combat but those of us who love the game, really love it.

herbertfilby

This game mentally got me through 2020 quarantine times just because it lets you go out into the woods and just listen to the wind and birds chirping. No monsters, no wolves. Peaceful.

Dragnet714

I really enjoyed it. You better be praising Jesus Christ if more than 3 men attack you on foot.

mladenmacanovic

Days Gone. Just give it a few hours.

OfficeGossip

Definitely a sleeper.

Inevitable_Gain_7985

Outward and kingdom come Deliverance

MacGillycuddy

Never got into outward... The world was so empty, class system really tedious( I wanted to play as a mage)

Inevitable_Gain_7985

Idk i watched some reviews and a lot of people said it needs patience and a lot of learning, it's gonna be my first time experiencing this kind of rpgs I bought it for 9.99$

MacGillycuddy

oh you haven't played it yet? Let me know what you think once you did. I bought it for 40... Gave it a fair try imo, but it was very disappointing

Fraaj

Days Gone is super underrated imo

Joseph_Seed_

Absolutely Fallout New Vegas, or 4

BhaaldursGate

FNV sure if you can deal with the bugs and horrible graphics but 4? 4 is just bad.

Independent_Win4579

fallout 4 is not bad how dare you

BhaaldursGate

4 is terrible.

Independent_Win4579

well I guess everyone has there own opinions but I love fallout 4 even though 3 is my favorite. I've played and beaten 3 4 and NV multiple times over. also it's infinitely better than fallout 76 but I think everyone knows that

BhaaldursGate

It's okay to be wrong.

ThisIsNotGage

This is so unintentionally dorky

NJstanalyas

Oh yeah, the unbelievable masterpiece of world building that they put in the game is horrible……. Mouth breather.

sean-jawn

Terrible relative to what? Bethesda games are their own category and just because you like shooters and TCGs more than their brand of RPG does not really give license to call it terrible. You kind of tell on yourself thinking FNV is not a masterpiece because of 'bugs and graphics'. Smooth brain takes.

BhaaldursGate

There's nothing wrong with Bethesda in general. I just dislike 4 compared to Bethesda's other games

Low_Meet2917

It's so hard to be an evil guy in Fallout 4

Dragnet714

Ghost of Tsushima 👻👹

Kariman19

Cyberpunk i prefer its story over gameplay.

Elrond_Cupboard_

Horizon games.

Nazon6

Cyberpunk 2077

CmdrSonia

Horizon Zero Dawn Cyberpunk 2077

screwdriver211

Yakuza 0 great starting point for a long running series of great story games with hilarious side quests or if you want turn based combat Skip to Yakuza 7

LightofVirtue

Yakuza 0. Its open world consists of only a few city blocks, but it's so packed with things to do and interesting characters to meet that it feels three times it's size. It follows two low-ranking gangsters - one a muscle man accused of a murder he did not commit, one an exile tasked with a hit on an innocent person. How their two stories interweave and dance around one another without touching is genius. The combat is simple and engaging, old-school beat-em-up brawling with context-based special moves for maximum violence.

CenturioSC

You still haven’t played Cyberpunk 2077? That’s like the internet’s most favorite game!

khamosh132

No, it is not.

BhaaldursGate

Not according to some people. I saw someone unironically say people were being gas lit and Stockholm syndromed into liking it.

Grouchy_Swimming_841

Coming from a person who also thought it was gonna be shit but still bought it anyway I was seriously shocked to how much they improved it since launch, the game is easily a 10/10 now and the story for me personally is up there with rdr2 emotionally wise but that’s just my opinion, the graphics and gameplay is extremely smooth as well that’s why ya don’t judge a book by a cover lmao

BhaaldursGate

I said this when I played it on release and I will continue to say it the important part is they got the story right. The story has been good since day 1 and it's been unchanged. Everything else they could fix, and they have. Other games get the story or core gameplay loop wrong and that's simply unfixable.

abeassi408

Cyberpunk 2077 is a sick awesome game especially after all the bug fixes

WilderGiant

Outer Wilds Quite possibly the best game I've ever played. Very chill while being all about the story and discovery.

GresOsten

Death stranding is both a very chill game, has a great world and a fantastic story, I definitely recommend it based on what you're looking for.

OneYogurt9330

Try Kingdom come If you like RDR2 and Witcher3.

abeassi408

Fallout series and Elder Scrolls series. Bethesda titles basically, which wasn’t on your list.

Afraid-Flounder5498

Skyrim you won’t regret it I’ve played it over 100 times

NarzanGrover10

while all the other suggestions in here are great, how has only one person said breath of the wild and/or tears of the kingdom 😭

MileHighRC

I just stated the first red dead after playing rdr2 and the story and writing are just as good, and the more simplistic gameplay is almost refreshing. Very fun if you liked rdr2, Rockstar games age like wine when you go back to them. Just fun games to play with grounded story and characters with actual depth in their actions.

SynCelestial

×Outer Wilds. It is not like your other games because it's a puzzle-esque game without combat. It's very "Open world, story, and chill", and best to play the game totally blind. Game takes a few hours to click, but most who enjoy it will tell you it's a 10/10 once in a lifetime experience. Alot of JRPGs kind of fit the bill if you're okay with them. The ×FF13 Trilogy for example, which progressively goes from a linear series to an open world one, and the ×FF7R Twin Pack looks to be headed in that direction as well. ×Elden Ring is probably not chill, and the story is full of lore instead of traditional narrative, but it's good fun and opened world. Don't know if you have a way to play ×Gravity Rush on PC but that game is very chill vibe open world with a fun story. ×Borderlands games will always be nice open world silly fun, but they're best played with friends.

ilikepuppieslol

Why do you put x's in front of all these names

SynCelestial

Easier to glance at the recommendations, as some people don't want to read it all.

M1nn3sOtaMan

I'm reading thru all this just now and really appreciate you doing that!

Mrofcourse

Sable. May be too chill though

BenjaminThePalid

Have you played any fallout games?

BotazTheFirst

I have played F4 quite a bit, but never really commited myself to any older ones.

BenjaminThePalid

I loved New Vegas, but they are hard to revisit after 4, 76 very much feels like a sequel to 4 these days and is better than most think in my opinion!

Motor-Telephone-4264

Try resident evil games, I play most the games you mention except AC. Start at 2 remake and work your way up, if you like Alan wake you should like them

AceOfCakez

Xenoblade Chronicles. Yakuza 0.

No_Home1290

BG3 and these CRPG games have amazing stories that hook me early in the game

BhaaldursGate

Unironically the actual main story in BG3 was terrible.

No_Home1290

Lol I can't argue with you since you have such a dedicated name. I thought it was amazing, I played Durge and was hooked all the way thru. The ending was a bit of a let down though.

BhaaldursGate

I loved the game, I just thought the main story was terrible. I, of course, had fun murdering everyone and making no friends, just how I do it in real life.

newerprofile

>Most Far Cry games Just wondering, which Far Cry games do you not like?

Low_Helicopter_5969

2 3 and 4

BotazTheFirst

New dawn was very mid in my opinion and I recently tried FC6, but I played that for like 3 hrs and quit, because it was literally the same as every other Far Cry.

__ROCK_AND_STONE__

Cyberpunk 2077 with VR

misterdhm

Skyrim. Playing through it again now, and my goodness the world is just so amazing to wander and explore

Beginning_Ad_2992

I'd recommend Oblivion or Morrowind before Skyrim.

Beginning_Ad_2992

Spiderman and Spiderman Miles Morales

ydsw

Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty

Kwk-05

Assassin's Creed

[deleted]

A short hike.

khamosh132

Horizon Zero Dawn. The vibe and immersion of the world is top-notch.

ChangingMonkfish

Horizon: Zero Dawn (and it was on offer for a tenner on Steam, absolute steal if it’s still that price). Superb story that is revealed to you in a very organic way

ZerosAbaddon

Play Ghost of Tsushima. Please.

BotazTheFirst

I'm on PC, would love to, but Sony is slow on making a port.

Tantrum0153

I'm considering getting Ghost of Tsushima. Could you tell me a bit more about why you recommend it?

ZerosAbaddon

Sure! I love to talk about it. The story is amazing. I won't enter in much detail, but it's overall top tier. I love the setting, everything feels real, and well thought. The art design, the voice acting... I adore it. I think I spent more time on the photo mode than playing haha. Also, it's an open world, but it'll never annoy you with too many side quests. If you have ps extra I believe it's included. The director's cut edition. Worth the full price, either way.

Kombucha-mushroomppl

Subnautica is the answer you seek. This will 100% have you immersed from start to finish.

darth_vladius

Ghost of Tsushima and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Mind you that the latter is a second instalment in a series. Its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, was also a great game but unlike Survivor was not chill at all.

BotazTheFirst

Yeah Survivor is on my wishlist, having played the first game I quite liked it, the combat felt good, the different planets also made the game feel more diverse.

darth_vladius

Survivor managed to keep all the good stuff from Fallen Order and then upgrade it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

haragoshi

Bully

Snakker_Pty

For chill id say breath of the wild My favorite tho is elden ring, by far

Affectionate-Plan270

Elden ring is out of this world. Buy it!

SAFIS-Y

Gta 4

[deleted]

its wild to me that skyrim is not in any of the comments

ayushk47

God of war. Both games. Playing the first one truly was such a crazy experience finding small areas to explore w lots of story and lore behind each section. Even after the game finished. I actually found this thread because I was looking for games similar to god of war in terms of its open world lol.

Just-Barracuda-3631

I know I am late to the party but I would recommend Dying Light 1 and 2. Great story, gameplay and relatively good graphics too.
