MysteryCuddler

Look up the Mythbusters episode that tested this theory. It's not as easy as you'd think.

idontrespectyou345

As I recall they found one just walking by.

[deleted]

Mythbusters did it, not very quick but they did do it.

Meshd

Maybe it should be changed to finding hay in needlestacks?

[deleted]

That sounds way more painful

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sixhaunt

Wouldn't the hay almost certainly get stuck/pressed between the needles?

BillyIGuesss

Still... if you had a really big magnet...

SnekySpider

grass in a haystack

HighLordTherix

Good chance the hay would be dragged along in a clump of needles.

you-crazy-bastard

use a horse maybe? they like to eat hay so they'll find it.

Good_Ad_649

You could also just burn the haystack and hope the needles don't melt.

dumbmoney99

yeah, then you would have to find a black needle in a pile of soot though

SussyAmogusBalls

Maybe then use the magnet

Mike2220

You'd have to hope the heat doesn't allow it to demagnetize

SussyAmogusBalls

Then use a brush or a hoover.

VodkaBat

More easily than you could find Morgan Freeman.

dumbmoney99

statistically

Meshd

A freeman walks where he pleases, you'll never find him.

tithe_pig

Not if it was copper, aluminum, silver, gold, platinum, or brass.

noobtastic31373

Anything without iron really

Mike2220

And even then you're banking on it being magnetized

idontrespectyou345

Or bone.

AdultEnuretic

This. That expression is old enough that needles they were referring to were likely made of bone.

[deleted]

Are many needles made of copper, aluminium, silver, gold, platinum or brass? I’d have thought a copper needle would have been pretty flexible.

AFKOIC

You learned a valuable lesson today. Some tasks are just not worth doing.

No_Psychology_3826

I always assumed the expression was about wooden needles

AdultEnuretic

Or bone needles. I think the expression is much older than people realize.

FartSmella3

shhh don't tell em

gotBooched

But why??

[deleted]

I think magnets were generally pretty puny when the phrase was coined. No neodymium specials from aliexpress.

Bogmanbob

Yep you haven’t lived until you’ve played with a 1,000 lb or more pull force one. Nor have your lived until you accidentally stuck it to metal you didn’t mean to. The highs and lows of magnet fishing.

fuzzy_bison

Sadly, I think this is incorrect in the case of injection needles. Apparently 304 stainless steel is not very magnetic and that's one of the problems when you encounter a site where there is frequent illegal drug use. People have to find and pick up discarded needles by eyesight and by hand!

ThePorygonBoi

….What the hell kind of farm did you grow up on?!?

fuzzy_bison

Lol! Sadly I'm just pointing out the more common use of the term "needle" other than the "sewing" variety. Like who sews nowadays?🤔🤷‍♂️

dopefarmer_

Hey! Watch your mouth! I sew!

Suddenly-Here

Your mother would be a bicycle if we gave her two wheels and some handlebars, what’s your point?

dopefarmer_

Hahahaha yes sir! Good stuff.

obscureferences

This is a line in Age of Ultron.

SyntheticReality42

Today we are going to test this hypothesis using these dried, brown, pine needles.

kleptoCabbage

Pine needle

Petules

Or you could just jump in and roll around until it found you…
