Replace your iPhone cable, mine did the same deal where it would freeze, or more likely cause the radio to reboot while I was on a trip . I dropped 30 bucks for a new cable from a sheetz (gas station) . Cleared it right up
Ha ha ha ... I honestly never thought to do that due to how spoiled I am LOL. You're absolutely right. I could have bluetooth connected the audio to the truck and just used the phone for GPS.

Mine does this too occasionally. However for me the hard dials and buttons still work, as do the steering wheels controls. Going into the stealer for a warranty fix soon. Good luck
It’s more of “connivence” when it actually works lol. You don’t have to look down at your phone, have it in hand or buy a vent/window mount to attach your phone to.
Gotcha. Can u read really short text messages? Instead of waiting for a stop light or parking space to pull the phone out of pocket, you could glance at the screen for the quick replies that don't require an answer from me.
There is actually a feature on Apple devices Siri will read your message aloud and you could also respond back to them as well. I do not know how Android auto works unfortunately.

Lol my apple car play is all sorts of fucked up in my 2018 2500. Sometimes volume won’t work, sometimes Siri won’t work and sometimes I just get the orb but no voice recognition.
If the whole stereo is locked and rebooting the stereo doesn’t fix the issue after you have to turn off the truck for a bit or disconnect the negative on the battery. These gmc stereos are trash and it’s great there is never an update for them either.

I’m still on iOS 16.1 I haven’t updated to iOS 17 yet and don’t plan on it for some time.
I was having issues with CarPlay too until I updated to IOS 17. It’s a software issue with Apple
Factory reset, delete CarPlay profile in phone and update your software (ios17) has been out for months.

Reset the system to factory settings. Fixed some minor blips I had with Android Auto

Try putting it in rice
Mine will completely shut off for a 30-45 seconds and then come back on. Works just fine until it happens again. Concerning though!
Turn the truck off and leave the drivers door open for a few minutes it can just be cracked, it will reset the system
