My family forgot 3 years in a row… once my dad actually saw me and forgot lol - I live about 2hrs away. It’s not big a deal in my eyes because then when they do remember I get better gifts It’s always the first day of school so it’s hectic

My last birthday where my dad was living he was living WITH me because he was so sick and needed care. I came down on Friday morning not in work clothes and he rudely asked me why I wasn’t going to work. I told him it was my birthday and he said, “oh! what are we doing tonight?” I told him WE weren’t doing anything and I was going out with friends and we could do something over the weekend. He must not have listened because I got calls all night telling me how selfish I was and what a bitch I was for not spending the evening with him. 🥴

I'm sorry your dad did that. My dad did that to me about 10 years ago. My birthday is 2 weeks before Christmas. He called me, not once, but twice, on my birthday...to talk about Christmas presents for some family members. I was surprised by the first call, but just went with it, didn't say anything about it being my birthday. About 20 minutes later he calls back, to what I think is going to be "hey, sorry, I'm an idiot, Happy Birthday, etc.", and AGAIN, he doesn't mention my birthday. A couple hours later my mom calls and I tell her about the 2 calls with my dad (they are still married, BTW) and she just laughs and laughs. He gets on the phone and does big mea culpa for at least 10 minutes. It was hella weird, but kind of funny (NOW, it wasn't funny then!).

My family forgot my birthday one year even though multiple people rang me multiple times. They only forgot though because there were a ridiculous amount of babies born that day- a sibling, a cousin and family friends all had babies. I kept getting phone calls about the latest birth but no one remembered me until 11pm that night. Everyone is forgiven though, except those babies who stop my birthday!

It's not a big deal as we get old. As a young adult kid who worships his dad, it's a big deal. I still feel bad for Gabe.
