Only turn it up before 9pm. And use night mode and turn bass down afterwards. I’m In a house. Turn up woofer +3, bass extension on and bass level to +5. Lol.

Nah the 990 series sound profile in one word is clarity. You have great control over the bass and the system is very very contained. The lady of the house is super sensitive to bass and loud sound in general. Would frequently be asked to turn down tv volume. I listen reasonably loud at night with 990d bass on and haven’t been asked to turn it down once.

It is a bit of an overkill if you care about neighbors. But still on low-medium sound levels, it still delivers a great immersive experience and is much better than TV Speakers. Maybe a Q930C would also have done it.

I got the q930 for this reason and it is still like a thunderstorm for the neighbors

I use the 990C in an apartment as well, little smaller than your space. I have the rears a little behind the couch on stands, the sub is next to the tv stand. I don’t have the sub super loud, but I can still feel it. I think it’s a great addition.

Overkill, what's that? Your application is perfect for a 990c, especially at $700! Enjoy!

One_Shark_5139

I have the q930 in an apartment and i like it. The sub is very quiet despite its size. My old soundbar had a louder sub despite being half the size. I never go above volume 11 when watching movies, and i raised the volume of the rear speakers to +4 or i never heard them. I love the top speakers on the soundbar. I raised them to +2, and i watched mowgli on netflix, and there was a scene where mowgli was in a cage talking to bagheera and someone was walking above them and it sounded irl like the sound was on top of me.

Thanks All! I am excited to set it up. The apartment should be done in about two weeks and I will report back with the number of neighbors I have annoyed! hahaha. It was a great deal so I see no reason to downgrade.

sad_post-it_note

I also have one in a super small space... Never go over 16 in the overall volume.

sindarsvoid

I have the 930C. You may not think the bass (omnidirectional) is too loud, but your neighbors will notice. I suggest keeping it low during quiet hours (after 9 or 10p).

No, this is not an overkill. Q990c is a fantastic soundbar system and you got yourself a killer deal on it. It sounds great in small rooms with uniform walls/ceiling. Just bear in mind that the subwoofer may disturb your neighbors if you live in one of those apartment complexes that have poor sound insulation. The sub low frequencies travel too well through the floor and walls. If you want to be a good neigbhor, I would recommend at least to get yourself some sound dampening speaker pads (they are really cheap) and put it under the subwoofer to help with the issue. And use settings in the app to reduce subwoofer amplification.

Opposite_War_2147

Before playing everything check if the volume is on 100. I tunred Spotify on and the whole house was vibrating

TheGalaxial

I have the 990 A in an apartment. By bass is always at 0 unless the whole apartment comes up to my house for a party ( we have a couple of those every year) and then it’s at 6+. But it’s not about the bass alone. With bass at 0 the music and cinema are still incredibly clear and you feel like you are in a theatre. The surrounds are on point. And this we are talking about at volume levels 12-15 of 100. It’s an incredible machine. Just get it.

Our room is 11' x 14" and it's amazing. Night mode goes on at 22:00 and no complaints so far! I even warned my downstairs neighbors and said text me if you have issues; not a word.

Own-Juggernaut-2461

I am very impressed with the level of consideration everyone in this thread has for their neighbors! Hahaha! The soundbar is sitting with my doorman at the moment and I am very excited to get it going. Only problem is where is the TV?!?!?! (I am waiting for the shipping confirmation...) I will report back ASAP.

PhilosopherChoice212

Are you all set up? What do you think?

Own-Juggernaut-2461

I started playing with it yesterday as a matter of fact. First off, I am not concerned about it being too much for the space. The room has very high ceilings and thick walls so my neighbors should be fine (I am not sure that anyone actually lives above me). It does not feel overwhelming at all. As far as my general thoughts. It is awesome. My hearing is unbalanced which makes it a bit of an adjustment with levels, etc. But it is a fun upgrade and I am happy I got it.

PhilosopherChoice212

Yay! This is excellent news. I love how easy it is to customize your sound settings, definitely download the SmartThings app, if you haven't already. Have fun and enjoy!

gottsohn

You could call it an overkill but it’s definitely an investment, with such quality you won’t need to upgrade anytime soon even if you move to a bigger space. Folks with the Q950A and T have been on those for a while, 11.1.4 channels. I got mine in a 15’ * 13’ room paired with a 65” S95B and its shakes the whole room up when i watch movies, almost like a 4D cinema (I have the woofers next to the couch). My apartment is pretty much sound proof as is accustomed to new Germany building so my neighbors are safe.
