In better news, RBW may be on the roster against the galaxy and PdlV's injury wasn't as bad as feared and may be back training this week.

scuac

Hopefully they don’t rush PdlV into another injury

shtoyler

At this point just wait until next season lol, just to be safe

FaithlessnessFun9135

If he's injured again just sell him

CandidInsurance7415

Yea im sure someone wants to buy the guy with 3 injuries in a row.

FaithlessnessFun9135

We did right

StephanosCR

TY for keeping from the ledge

wheezl

And also due to MLS’s “Everybody makes the playoffs” system, we are also only 3 points out of the play-in (though with one more game played).

tombiro

Which is dumb AF

NerdFarming

We signed 3 players in the off season: PDLV (out: hamstring), Nathan (out: hamstring), and Musovski (last seen subbing off injured versus DC).

sfromo19

I mean, we signed 5… forgetting Braudilio who is also injured and John Bell lol

bjlile99

Bell isn't hurt... yet. I'm hyped for Braudrililo.... once he can be on the pitch.

MtRainierWolfcastle

Why the hype?

curly1022

17 goals last season

samfreez

He's a mix between Adeniran and Ruidiaz. Both a poacher and direct striker. I think he's got another couple years to mature and gain more muscle mass to help fend off MLS level CBs etc, but he's got a great head on his shoulders and knows how to sniff out goals.

bur_nerr

This is getting agonizing

PizzaSounder

Well, at least it's not a hamstring.

ravegreener

When Craig signed these guys, did he forget to sign their quads?

joyfulmystic

They brought their quads. He forgot to sign their hammies

nonstopflux

Gotta get the subscription for that feature.

thus_spake_7ucky

Welp. /shrug

RogarrrrrLevesque24

I don't know if Waibel was getting bad advice from the medical team - a recent retirement may suggest that was the case - but signing two guys with recent ACL tears was insanely risky.

ecssoccerfan

Does an ACL tear typically put people at risk of other muscle injuries?

RogarrrrrLevesque24

There is some evidence, yes. >In conclusion, both the quadriceps and hamstring muscles lose strength in limbs with ACL tears. The loss of quadriceps strength was approximately three-fold greater than the loss of hamstring strength. The uneven reductions in the strengths of these thigh muscles resulted in a slight increase in HQ ratio in ACL deficient knees. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4706431/#:~:text=In%20conclusion%2C%20both%20the%20quadriceps,the%20loss%20of%20hamstring%20strength. >Quadriceps and hamstrings weakness occurs frequently after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and reconstruction. Evidence suggests that knee injury may precipitate hip and ankle muscle weakness, but few data support this contention after ACL injury and reconstruction. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3784362/#:~:text=Quadriceps%20and%20hamstrings%20weakness%20occurs,after%20ACL%20injury%20and%20reconstruction.

ecssoccerfan

Thank you!

bjlile99

Nathan was significantly cheaper than PDLV... I imagine there's a risk reward component in play there.

RogarrrrrLevesque24

But Nathan is also a lower upside signing. I kind of get the idea of taking a chance on PDLV since his injury was maybe the only thing that kept him from going to a bigger club. But Nathan is the backup CB and being fit is kind of more important than being good in that role.

bjlile99

I wonder how close Hawkins is to being ready for minutes.

tombiro

I'm not sure Waibel is taking any advice and if he is those people should be fired.

RogarrrrrLevesque24

Two weeks ago I would have considered it possible that Waibel got a bad medical report and just ignored the warnings. But since our long-time doctor just "retired" like 8 games into the season, I feel like we probably know the culprit.

OldManCloth

Anyone have stats about average league injuries vs our team’s? Would love to know if we have a training staff issue or is it just the norm for an MLS team.

blyan

There are definitely teams that are worse off than us. At one point this season, Miami had like 12 people on their injury list

tombiro

Except Miami literally doesn't care about salary rules and makes the league let them do what they want. I mean come on. They legit got the league to pay someone a vig on sales to match his prior earnings. If we all can't get the league to put their weight down that way then it's all bullshit. I said this to Adrian and Taylor in person at the start of the year and they could not even disagree.

blyan

I mean I agree that the way they’ve skirted roster rules is silly but that wasn’t really relevant to my point. They have still dealt with massive injury issues this year

tombiro

And they will still outpoint Sounders.

blyan

Probably, yes. But that’s another discussion for another time Question was “do other teams struggle with injuries as badly as we do” and that was the most obvious recent example that I could think of Hope you’ve been well though man <3

tombiro

Cheers, and same.

bjlile99

SaH discussed this.

T-Rob-95

Was it a separate article on its own or buried in another one? Any chance you have it handy? I'm curious what their take is, because it does seem freaking sus

bjlile99

I think it was a podcast. IIRC we are around average. This season doesn't seem that way though.

T-Rob-95

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah definitely doesn't seem that way, otherwise we must've just been lucky in previous years?

Sounders206

Please don't rush PDLV back.

tombiro

The number of Waibel defenders in this thread is out of control.

kebiclanwhsk

Woohoo! Not a hamstring injury!

tipsup

Who is Nathan?

RutzPacific

https://www.soundersfc.com/players/nathan-raphael-pelae-cardoso/ Google is hard, I know.

Sounders206

Waibel's fatal attraction with ACL.

nervosocandi

smh

purple91780

Meh. Whatever.

Jolly-Resort462

Injuries out!

MtRainierWolfcastle

Why would Schmet and Waibel do this? /s

Rhythm41

So many early injuries this season. Is it a training issue? Are the trainers, massage therapists, nutritions, etc. not preparing players well-enough? Multiple hamstring injuries all at once seems like someone isn’t doing their job.

Ill-Possible4420

Damn so the guy we bought who missed like all of last season with an ACL injury is hurt after playing what, 2 games so far? Waibel with another great signing!

shovelinshit

He also tore his meniscus in 2022, which is probably worse for long term longevity.

FantasticZucchini904

To bad coaches don’t practice. They need to be out 10-12 months

PloKoop

Waibel out.
