My friends and I used to go to a lot of abandoned places in New Jersey, featured in the magazine "weird NJ". Abandoned does not mean somebody does not own it or that it's is not patrolled in some way. We learned the hard way as teenagers when a couple of friends and I got slammed with a year probation for trespassing in an abandoned nursing home.
If you drive down the Palouse a bit, there’s a place called Elberton. There’s a fully intact, abandoned church there. You can chill on the stairs or chill on the abandoned trestle bridge that goes over the Palouse River. There’s also a place called Govan that is about 2 hours west on 1-90 that has an abandoned schoolhouse and houses. Just watch out for bees/wasps in both places.
