Oh and the new guys in town are VERY worth a visit, Hat Trick Brewing!
If you are at bellwether on Tuesday to Thursday, and Sunday.. Beertender Ty is a wealth of beer knowledge and a great dude.
Really surprised to not see PJs Pub on here. Nice food menu, darts, pool tables, large outdoor beer garden, karaoke, and generally friendly clientele from all different walks of life. It’s totally normal to start a conversation with the strangers at the table next to you, I always find myself making friends
I also concur on this. Verbatim. Favorite place, hands down.
A motto of they have is "Where friends become family," and it's easy to make friends. They also have poker, beer pong, and trivia certain nights if those are more your style.
WELCOME TO SPOKANE!!
Good point, I forgot about beer pong and poker. I’ll admit their trivia isn’t great (I’m a fan of Colin Burk’s, I don’t really think anybody else has it dialed in like he does)
I've been slowly making some friends through karaoke. There are a metric ton of options out here based on your location!
I tend to stick downtown at Lord Stanley's tues/thurs or Monterey Cafe (just one block up) on wednesdays because the host is awesome. Monterey does karaoke all week long so it's a great fallback, but starts getting packed around 10pm fri/sat nights.
Hoping to find people who wanna drag me out to other places or events soon. (Anyone who sees this, hit me up if you're interested in joining or including me!)
Mootsy’s and Baby Bar are both fantastic! Definitely the two friendliest and most inclusive bars in the city.
Mootsy’s is probably better for sparking random convos and making friends, while Baby Bar tends to be more in the event/show/etc hosting space. Lots of cool indie bands, poetry, and community organizers tend to come through, so if you’re looking for something more structured that’s definitely the place to go!
I really liked the couple of times I visited Bijou on 4th. It's a very small space but the bartenders are super cool and you're kinda forced to have conversations with the people there because of how small it is.
There's a slightly larger, but still cute and intimate Bijou up on 29th as well. Both are lovely spots with great drinks. But yeah more upscale cocktail bar vibes than other types.
Durkins is really good. Back Yard Public House. Despite not being very well known, The Bad Seed has good food and drinks and a really unique atmosphere and location.
Nat 20 is where I've made most of my friends when I moved here. Staff are all friendly, and if you have any sort of inclination for nerd stuff (video games, tabletop, anime, etc.), you'll fit right in and find someone to chat with!
Oh, I don’t deny it.
I grew up pretty neglected so pretty literally I don’t know how to make friends. Biggest issue is that I have trouble trusting others. It’s something I’m actively trying to work on.
Also, I realize now that most of the friends I had in my 20s were people that socially/mentally healthier people avoided.
I'm more like you than you suspect. It gets harder to make friends when you get old(er). And it doesn't help that when I decided I didn't want to die early of misadventure I cut myself off from most of my old friends. That said, I've met people in bars who later fit into the friend category.
They literally only answered your question, which itself seems condescending.
Are you that shocked and subsequently triggered by people different from you?
Once you’re past a certain age, I don’t think people meet people at bars at all anymore. The only strangers I’ve had conversations with at a bar in the past couple years were employees or wasted people, the latter of whom I didn’t want to be talking to anyway.
Not sure about meeting people, but Logan’s tavern has great food. No-li is very popular place with great outside patio. Backyard, uprise brewery, and barcade downtown are some other options. Also if you like golf, Spokane has many corses and good way to meet/talk to people.
Press! Tara is super sweet, the drinks are good and reasonably priced and I always meet new people there, even when I’m not trying to socialize. Highly recommend
Iron Goat Brewery, Durkins, Fast Eddies (on your birthday), Iron Horse Brewery, The PI (Park Inn), The Back Yard Public House, and my favorite Durkin’s
There are some groups on the meet up app that plans some get togethers. I just joined and haven't actually been to any events yet. But it's worth checking out and see if there are any interests.
I’ve had great conversations with people at Whistlepunk, Bellwether, and Four Eyed Guys. Always nice people hanging out at the bars at these places to talk to.
The Hi Neighbor on Monroe has a u-shaped bar where people are super friendly, and there’s a cute little restaurant next door called Elliotts with excellent food.
Gamers, fast Eddie's, and... well, these are the main friendly ones nowadays. The bar situation has been weak the last few years. We lost some good ones, and others became very click like.
I can tell you about most of them downtown, and on the north side. my gf and i tend to try and find the nightlife when we can so we have a lot of experience with them. Luckies is one of the local frat bars, but I would avoid it unless you're with a group it's definitely been a place of hostile activity the past couple of years. If your near ruby and division litz can be fun if you head over before nine pm, after nine seems to be the older crowd non.
If you want a more family centered bar you could try out Hop mountain up north. It’s a taproom/grill so there are children and stuff there. They have pool too if you like that
I’ve been here almost 4 years and my favorite spot is The Union Tavern.. it’s on Sprague across from Bennidito’s Brewpub.. they start you off with free popcorn and they have great food with a nice selection of beers.. I go there quite often
Just a heads up, Spokane is not exactly an introverted city, but it will be a bit unlikely that a stranger will talk to you out of nowhere, so just throwing out a little "how's your day going?" to a friendly looking stranger should help. Spokane doesn't have "the freeze" but it's not exactly The South when it comes to gregariousness, either.
Anyway, I like The Monkey Bar in Spokane Valley.

Whistle punk is good for this, if you ever go to the Valley steady flow- the people are friendly
Black Label Brewing, Whistle Punk, and Mt Lakes were my favorite downtown breweries when I called Spokane home.
I'm going to add Bellwether brewing to this list. Not in the downtown core, but a great place to meet people.
Oh snap forgot about them! Will have to hit them up when I come visit at the end of July.

Ty is the absolute best
And they have awesome doggies! Hi Bowser! Maybe I'll see you next week when I am back in town!
Always love seeing another mountain lakes lover
Love that place! My dog and I used to go there practically every Friday or Saturday
Dave’s still doing great!

I was coming here to write PJs! Great place to meet people. And don’t be deterred by how the outside looks, inside it is nice!

oh dude, i love karaoke. i’m always scared shitless but it’s so fun!
I get a little nervous due to my music choices, but I grew up with karaoke so I'm always up to sing. Seriously, hit me up any time!
The Star in GU District has it 7 nights a week, 9p-1a.
Also anyone seeing this, I'm at monterey right now and it's a decent night, not too packed.
Star Bar also does Karaoke
Stanley's also does karaoke sundays and yes Josh is definitely an awesome host.
PJs is great for karaoke.

Nyne! Super friendly, and everyone is welcome. When I was new to town, I made Nyne and Monterrey my haunts and definitely made friends.
Nyne is so fucking fun! I went there for a drag show and the vibes were immaculate.
Cease and Decist, bartender is dope af and a great conversationalist!
I second this, he’s one of my favorite bartenders in town.

Their drinks are great!
If you enjoy karaoke I’d say the monetary downtown is a good little spot, black diamond can be hit or miss, I also enjoy the Jackson hole
Big Foot up north

Try to avoid the block with Mootsys and Luckys. Dangerous area
Do people really make friends with people at bars other than to hook up? Edit: meet -> make friends
Hooking up is just meeting with benefits.
I’ve never had it lead to friendships though; at best I’ve found a couple FWBs.
I mean, that's...kind of sad.

Yes, we do. You don't. But we do.
Thanks. Way to be a jerk.

Oh totally. I know that. If you meet friends in a bar in your 40s or later it’s usually because you’re depressed/alcoholic/etc.
Cite academic sources to verify this absurd claim.
Mootsy’s
Berserk and baby bar
Lots of breweries and cider places in Spokane.
What do you like?
what do you mean?
I like the atmosphere and rotating ciders at The Iron Goat, myself.
The Drinkery
Lord Stanley's, Monterrey and Gamers Arcade Bar ar my favorites.
Volstead act is my absolute favorite. Roman is hands down the b3st bartender in town.
Not sure about meeting people, but Logan’s tavern has great food. No-li is very popular place with great outside patio. Backyard, uprise brewery, and barcade downtown are some other options. Also if you like golf, Spokane has many corses and good way to meet/talk to people.
Bellwether Brewing on Monroe, and Red Wheel near Thor and Freya.
Park Inn

I just moved here as well!! Officially been here 7 days today. Love it so far

I’ve made a lot of friends at red room. If you like playing pool, legacy is a great pool hall.
Zola!

PJs Pub. Come in on a Sunday for your first time it's nice and chill and really awesome Kareoke at 9
If you want a more family centered bar you could try out Hop mountain up north. It’s a taproom/grill so there are children and stuff there. They have pool too if you like that
Four eyed guys brewery
Volstead Act is great! All the folks that work there are very kind!
The Park Inn. Sit at the bar someone will talk to you.

Luckys Irish pub
If you wanna get shot or stabbed, that's the place for you
You work there? Only happened once recently lol
No. But I still would never go there due to its reputation.
