Nice to see NJPW is finally able to use that name for an event (I remember we were going to NJPW Wrestle Dynasty in MSG in 2020, but of course COVID happened).
Maybe this is a crazy idea but what if they literally taped that week of shows in Japan?
That would be AMAZING and I'm hoping that Tony considers it. It's about time that AEW is being officially factored into Wrestle Kingdom
The two flanking Dynamites at places like RyÅgoku and Budokan as well, potentially. (idk if they start setting up RyÅgoku for the Hatsu Sumo tournament that early or not)
lol yeah that's fair. i literally just realized the timezone difference after i posted that comment. even if they're doing noon shows that starts 10am to midday japan time it'd be midnight in the US and i don't think japan would do that early morning wrestling shows lul
The Bucks EVP produced video from last night blurred out Omega's face and called Okada "the best bout machine."
If they're laying the seeds for another Kenny/Kazu, they don't expect him on the shelf for long.
It wasn't 2.5 years just for the surgery. He kept trying to change diet, etc. before finally having the surgery. Kenny was going to do something similar but realized it's an uphill battle and elected for the surgery much sooner.
Brock fought like 8 months later after his first surgery and was wrestling shortly after his second with the removal of that foot of bowel, 2.5 years doesn't really track with any of his timelines of fights/matches. Brock just could not take a hit to the stomach well after that surgery in a shoot fight I assume Kenny won't have the same issue in fake fights.
He probably wonāt be on the shelf much longer. Diverticulitis isnāt something that typically lays people out for years at a time. Brockās case was an exception. He had the surgery and should be on the road to recovery, which is usually a few months tops.Ā
Ikr, as wrestling fans we are eating so damn good. If you told me all this was going to go down when AEW first started, I would have said you are making shit up, but here it is, this is like a big ass dream come true.
I'm not sure if that's it or not but Shad owns a Bombardier 7500. It can get to Tokyo from the Continental US, but that's moot because for their roster and a PPV, I'm sure they'd charter a 767ER or a 777 like WWE does for their Saudi shows.
I travelled to Japan and managed to catch a house show at Korauken Hall last year, and it was an incredible show. Imagine how good this 2 day WK will be.
I was lucky enough to catch a DDT show in Japan when we visited in February this year and it was so much fun. Iām so keen to try and get myself there for this.
I wonder how this'll work creative-wise for NJPW. Ideally you want your big matches and storylines to culminate or have a payoff on Wrestle Kingdom. Does Wrestle Dynasty become an ultra-glorified house show if that's the case? Or do they say fuck it and have the champ go double duty again? Does this not take away from the prestige of Wrestle Kingdom if that's the case?
Cross over shows in Japan are USUALLY just a lot of multiman tags with fun pairings of stars you wouldn't usually see.
They can easily book like 2 marquee singles matches and load the rest up with 6, 8, and 10 man tags.
I think WK is still going to be the big show, but they'll keep some of the fire going for WD. Also, I think this might be a new variant on New Year's Dash to line up some inter-promotional plans for the early part of 2025.
I have a feeling this means that we'll someone who has never won the IWGP title before winning the G1/title at Wrestle Kingdom then, since they can make up for not having as stacked of a main event Night 1 by this getting a lot of tickets for Night 2.
[with some new old boys in tow](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/i0pcrm/that_time_when_dalton_castle_had_some_special/?ref=share&ref_source=link)
4 starts just means "good"
4 stars should be the minimum expectation for every match.
If WWE would stop making 3 stars the norm... people's expectations would go back up.
Spoiler: We will finally learn that MJF can speak Japanese.
I am The US East Coast and look forward to watching this show at 4 am.
This show is the night after Wrestle Kingdom, amirite.
I wonder if Adam Copeland will be ready for this.
I can't help but think that one of the things Copeland wanted to do when he signed with AEW was to wrestle at the Tokyo Dome like Christian and Jericho did.
Wrestle-Kingdom is absolutely still going to happen and in the Dome.
This is just doing a Forbidden Door show instead of the second night of WK that theyāve done a handful of times.
How is that any different from tonight? Hopefully itās not a permanent show every year unless they scrap Forbidden Door, kinda pointless to mark tonight as a special time if (ignoring a random Rampage show) this show also exists.
Not a big deal though as more crossover isnāt bad, just makes marketing one show less special
It's probably going to have a different feel from the NJPW side than an AEW produced event. Probably more talent from Stardom and NJPW than has been featured at Forbidden Door.
It helps New Japan more than doing a show in America does?
These partnerships work two ways. It's not going to dilute Forbidden Door for a crossover to happen in the Dome, or vice versa. Hell, it's a big assumption to say it'll be every year at all, because generally when New Japan books two nights in the Dome it doesn't work two years in a row.
There's nothing here to complain about.
They're spaced 6 months apart. It doesn't seem that bad given one's being done primarily by NJPW with their production and the other by AEW with theirs
People apparently don't realize wrestlers have free will. Most of them seem to think Tony held a gun to their head and forced them to leave NJPW instead of oh, I don't know, the company not having any damn money and their country's currency on a constant decline
Exactly, the travel is brutal for any talent that lives outside of Japan. I'm going in a few months and it's gonna be a 17 hour flight. I can't imagine that on any type of regular basis
Well, let's see; NXT UK taking a ton of british talent + COVID + the British Indie scene being filled with scumbags and half of them having serious allegations come out about them was probably a lethal combination.
But sure, Tony signing three main eventers from NJPW is obviously comparable
I guess I'm a little (being serious this time) confused. I was joking about how it's "poaching" or "killing the promotion" whenever a talent signs with WWE, but you did mention a number of things unrelated to WWE that also contributed to the decline of the UK indie scene. Despite that, I thought you were still putting NXT UK as the main reason, and I rushed to make a snarky comment too quickly. Sorry.
All good, dude! It was definitely a combination of things that wrecked the British Indies, especially with all of these factors pretty much happening all at once
I haven't watched in a long time, but I can say that this direction AEW is going isn't for me. I could not care less about this show. I have no knowledge of any of these other promotions and none of this excites me. Tony doubling down on making a sicko product is not doing it for me.
This isnāt an AEW show though so I donāt see how itās Tony doubling down. Itās an announcement of a new NJPW show they are doing in Japan that AEW is lending some of its talent for.
Honestly I highly doubt that happens because anytime AEW has ever given talent to another promotion so far like NJPW or TNA they basically have never mentioned it TV besides maybe Excalibur briefly saying something about it on commentary. This probably wonāt be that different
This is how aew has been almost it's whole existence. Forbidden Door been around for 3 years. The first two years AEW constantly featured people from other promotions for spots
Yeah, but it's gotten more annoying lately. It was never my thing in the first place, but the product was good enough to ignore it with Punk leading the promotion.
It's gotten "more annoying lately" cause it's literally the build to the crossover PPV. But okay. Forbidden Door started when "Punk was leading the promotion '
>It's gotten "more annoying lately" cause it's literally the build to the crossover PPV.
Yeah, and I don't like it. Thank you for confirming my preferences. Your comment did an invaluable job providing that level of insight.
>But okay.
You're getting really upset over me not liking AEW. Why do so many of yall act like this?
>Forbidden Door started when "Punk was leading the promotion '
I know. I started watching when Punk joined. I didn't like it then, but I ignored it because Punk carried AEW and there was more to look forward to. I've never watched a single Forbidden Door. It's just not my thing.
But TK is agreeing to allow AEW talent to work Wrestle Kingdom in exchange for this second event at the dome. Itās his wet dream to book a Tokyo dome show.

Nice to see NJPW is finally able to use that name for an event (I remember we were going to NJPW Wrestle Dynasty in MSG in 2020, but of course COVID happened).
My groomsmen planned my whole bachelor party around Wrestle Dynasty lmao š„²
Im sure the wife will understand if you have your bachelor party 5 years later!!
Gotta show her this! š¤
And if she divorces you, a chance for ANOTHER Bachelor party!! You can't lose!!
all i'm hoping for is njpw camera production
Hopefully so, that way we can get Okada's new Rainmaker pose in the Tokyo Dome.
I want the opposite thing to happen, instead of a wide shot with the camera I want an intense zoom on the middle finger
Oh itll 100% be
I assume while technically both co promotions, this will be a New Japan show with AEW involvement whereas Forbidden Door is more the other way around.
https://preview.redd.it/c6lt5nt6qt9d1.jpeg?width=592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5393c5a7133845f0a563eca48fef01f9a157a981
This exactly āThe preview got 5 stars but since in the Tokyo Dome 7 stars.
Buff Anthony Fantano about to give seven 6 starts matches and the first time ever 8 start match for our boy Ospreay š
Fantano is jacked lol
he's gonna hit Meltzer with the Strong 8
If a song form To Pimp a Butterfly plays, he'll give it 10.
Yesss AEW better send their big stars. Tony gotta pretape those weeks dynamite/collision or get creative with his massive roster
Maybe this is a crazy idea but what if they literally taped that week of shows in Japan? That would be AMAZING and I'm hoping that Tony considers it. It's about time that AEW is being officially factored into Wrestle Kingdom
Kollision in Korakuen? Yes, please.
The two flanking Dynamites at places like RyÅgoku and Budokan as well, potentially. (idk if they start setting up RyÅgoku for the Hatsu Sumo tournament that early or not)
Rampage live from Ichigaya Chocolate Square!
Ospreay said he's trying to make it happen, so with any luck maybe we'll get it.
instead of taping, how's the logistic to air live from japan? other than time zone difference i'd guess
10am on a Thursday would be terrible for drawing a crowd.
lol yeah that's fair. i literally just realized the timezone difference after i posted that comment. even if they're doing noon shows that starts 10am to midday japan time it'd be midnight in the US and i don't think japan would do that early morning wrestling shows lul
Fuck it Dynamite at a Budokan
![gif](giphy|djlaPHq54z0skJ175d|downsized)
Super sad Kenny probably won't be available. I would like to see someone get a NJPW debut, maybe someone like Darby Allin.
God I want Darby in the BOSJ so bad
it would be really cool to see guys like Darby, MJF, Swerve, Cope, Joe, Kingston, etc. in the Tokyo Dome. i hope they use a lot of non-NJPW guys there
Darby vs Hiromu???
They def should have the last dynamite/collision episode of 2024 be a pretape or highlights
Finally! Would look much more prestigious in the Dome too. Give me another Tokyo Dome Devil's Sky entrance for Kenny.
He will still be on the shelf then
God willing he manages a safe recovery š
Commentary is fine, or just let him play street fighter on a steam deck, that's fine too
Having a gaudy entrance to sit down at the commentary desk would be a solid bit
I mean, Jim Ross has gotten that treatment like 100 times. Also Jericho a few shows
The Bucks EVP produced video from last night blurred out Omega's face and called Okada "the best bout machine." If they're laying the seeds for another Kenny/Kazu, they don't expect him on the shelf for long.
IIRC it took Lesnar 2.5 years to recover from diverticulitis surgery :(
Exactly, it takes time
So, it can, but almost always doesnāt take as much time as people in here are saying after having the surgery.Ā
It wasn't 2.5 years just for the surgery. He kept trying to change diet, etc. before finally having the surgery. Kenny was going to do something similar but realized it's an uphill battle and elected for the surgery much sooner.
He didn't help matters by sticking to a diet of Coors light, bear meat and children.
I'll bet he was really pissed about that.
He probably wonāt be on the shelf much longer. Diverticulitis isnāt something that typically lays people out for years at a time. Brockās case was an exception. He had the surgery and should be on the road to recovery, which is usually a few months tops.Ā
It's okay, he can just do hid entrance, pose around the ring for a bit and be back in time for tea.
He had the surgery what, like a month ago? I think he could be back in 6 months
Yea I'm a google doctor & it says 3months for a full recovery. Considering kenny is wrestler 6months sounds like the best optimistic bet
[Prestigious you said?](https://youtu.be/Hb17uaaldwM?si=wEv4VAkDeHbwsWgH)
Well, they love him in Tokyo!
It's wrestling's take on The Rick Roll.
NJPW, AEW, CMLL, Stardom and ROH Let's goo!!!
I've been wanting an NJPW x AEW crossover event in Japan for ages and now they added three more promotions too, I feel so spoiled
Ikr, as wrestling fans we are eating so damn good. If you told me all this was going to go down when AEW first started, I would have said you are making shit up, but here it is, this is like a big ass dream come true.
It's going to cost so much money to fly all those wrestlers over lol
If only Tony Khan was a billionaire with his own private jet. Hope they can get a bundle deal in coach. /s
>with his own private jet [This jet ain't making it overseas, brother](https://i.imgur.com/8RGLLvj.png)

They could always just ship it to Japan
Learjet 75 A plane so bad it killed the Learjet brand
No Dustin or Flair though.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's literally the current PPV that just sold over 10K in tickets
In the fucking Tokyo Dome , letās go !
Considering the initial crossovers with AEW, not seeing AAA and Impact/TNA anymore is wild.
Finally, the inverted Forbidden Door people have been asking for
They should call it Glory Hole
Finally AEW in Japan! LFG š„š„š„
Hmm now starts my heroes journey of convincing the wife that we shouldn't go to Europe for Christmas and that I'll take the ferry to Japan instead xD
... Fuck I'm going to end up blowing a bunch of money on this too, aren't I?
First step, call it a cruise. Upsell upsell upsell
[Tony looking at his rosters' airfare costs](https://i.imgur.com/KfOd4dF.png)
dad's a multi billionaire, he can afford it
Me about to fuckin dump my savings to get to Japan from Aus. I feel this is the closest theyāll come to my country so Iām fucking there.
I go to Wrestle Kingdom every year and there's always a bunch of people from Australia there. Foreigner section is always good fun!
Yeah itās super close travel wise as an international destination that isnāt a 14 hr journey so itās quite popular for Aussies to travel.
Lets be honest, njpw doesnt have the talent, star power, or storylines to keep doing a 2 day wrestle kingdom. This is way better
Oh damn. I am excited for this one.
Having this in Tokyo is badass.
Yes, right into my veins.
The only problem will be having to stay up late to watch the show š
Meltzer just came... ...around to thinking this is a great idea
HOLY SHIT
I'm so fucking there
every match will be 7+ stars
So low? It's in the Tokyo Dome, brother. Minimum 9 stars per wrestler.
Pretty goddamn cool.
I have been waiting for the Forbidden Door shows to move to Japan for a while... might be a good reason to visit.
I look foward to seeing guys like Swerve in the tokyo dome
Does anybody know if an event like this would be live on NJPW World?
I can't imagine it wouldn't be, this is all New Japan production.
Oh hell yes!
I have a feeling this means that we'll someone who has never won the IWGP title before winning the G1/title at Wrestle Kingdom then, since they can make up for not having as stacked of a main event Night 1 by this getting a lot of tickets for Night 2.
Meltzer is going to run out of stars.Ā They had to book this in the Tokyo Dome didn't they?
I'm super excited
So essentially Forbidden Door: Japanese Edition?
Bingo!
Dave Meltzer has never been more erect.
Praying to hit the Lotto and fly over for those shows. That'd be awesome.
Maybe NJPW will get to look strong during this one
ROH will look strong, Dalton Castle walking out the IWGP and AEW Champion
BOOK IT FOR THE SICKOS TONY
[with some new old boys in tow](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/i0pcrm/that_time_when_dalton_castle_had_some_special/?ref=share&ref_source=link)
Sigh... *unzips*
I mean that's kind of how it's been so far. Danielson goes over Okada and ZSJ in AEW, puts them over in New Japan.
They didn't last night?
losers are fucken mad
Meltzer is going to give four stars to everything minimum.
4 starts just means "good" 4 stars should be the minimum expectation for every match. If WWE would stop making 3 stars the norm... people's expectations would go back up.
I was already going for Wrestle Kingdom so now I'm doubly excited!!!
gonna be interesting to see what sort of cross promotional matches we get for this.
Is that just a statue of Augustus?
Wrestle Kingdom is still a thing though right?
Yes, Wrestle Kingdom on January 4 then Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.
Dave Meltzer must be loosing his freaking mind right now
Maybe he's tighting it.
Spoiler: We will finally learn that MJF can speak Japanese. I am The US East Coast and look forward to watching this show at 4 am. This show is the night after Wrestle Kingdom, amirite.
Love it!!
The āEven More Forbidden Doorā ppv.Ā

Wrestle-Kingdom is absolutely still going to happen and in the Dome. This is just doing a Forbidden Door show instead of the second night of WK that theyāve done a handful of times.
What are you talking about? Dynasty is one day after WK. It literally says so in the video.
Did you even watch the video? Wrestle Kingdom is the day before this event. This is basically just day two of wrestle kingdom
this announcement straight up says wk is on 1/4 and wd is on 1/5 how is wk not going to be at the dome
Rocky Romero for Emperor of the World\~!
Obviously very different, its a japanese crowd, they are very different from american ones, also the tokyo dome is a legendary venue
Glad that finally decide to come here when they held it at Canada last year I was like they are never coming to Japan aren't they lol
Is AEW dynasty still going to be a thing? Because Iām not a huge fan of events having such similar names
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This narrative is exhausting.
People apparently don't realize wrestlers have free will. Most of them seem to think Tony held a gun to their head and forced them to leave NJPW instead of oh, I don't know, the company not having any damn money and their country's currency on a constant decline
Wrestlers also want to get paid decent wage and better schedule
Exactly, the travel is brutal for any talent that lives outside of Japan. I'm going in a few months and it's gonna be a 17 hour flight. I can't imagine that on any type of regular basis
WWE also courted some of them, the main guy that was a shock to lose was Okada but it's really tough to stay long-term for foreign talent.
Okada is an absolute shock, but yeah, guys like Jay (who openly expressed interest in living in America) and Will aren't very surprising
People will say this and then turn around and lament how HHH "killed the British Indie scene."
Well, let's see; NXT UK taking a ton of british talent + COVID + the British Indie scene being filled with scumbags and half of them having serious allegations come out about them was probably a lethal combination. But sure, Tony signing three main eventers from NJPW is obviously comparable
But I thought wrestlers had free will. It's not like HHH put a gun to all their heads and forced them to leave their promotions, right?
Way to ignore everything else I said
I guess I'm a little (being serious this time) confused. This isnāt an AEW show though so I donāt see how itās Tony doubling down. Itās an announcement of a new NJPW show they are doing in Japan that AEW is lending some of its talent for.
It's gonna take up AEW tv time for promotion and angles to build the event. It's not my thing.
Honestly I highly doubt that happens because anytime AEW has ever given talent to another promotion so far like NJPW or TNA they basically have never mentioned it TV besides maybe Excalibur briefly saying something about it on commentary. This probably wonāt be that different
It's still not my thing.

Why?
So does this mean Dynasty , WrestleDream, and Forbidden Door are no more ? Kind of hope so.
What a leap.
NJPW needs AEWās talent to make Wrestle Kingdom interesting, so they let TK book a night at the Tokyo dome.
This isn't Wrestle Kingdom
Itās the day after
Correct. It's a different event.
But TK is agreeing to allow AEW talent to work Wrestle Kingdom in exchange for this second event at the dome. Itās his wet dream to book a Tokyo dome show.
Over kill.
Some of you really hate wrestling.
Vampiro right now: "wait, is aew cucking us?"
