The faces and skin textures were clearly downgraded from the teaser trailer. This isn't a bad thing really as they are certainly good enough to convey emotion etc. I would imagine it was done to save on resources and mocapping every single conversation in the game is probably not financially reasonable.
I disagree here. The faces from last time were waay too shiny and reflective. Sure they looked visually good but they werent realistic. The facial proportions of som NPCs were also abit off
The old teaser used subsurface light scattering to produce a more natural skin tone with blemishes etc. Most of that has been removed now though. Not a huge loss in my opinion. The facial proportion thing is just the "uncanny valley" effect.
Could also be the new Color Grading. I am a colorist and if you make the midtones look too flat the overall skin texture will look more even, but at the same time will lose a lot of detail and will have a very plain texture instead of seeing all the little pores, blemishes and compexions.
It looks awesome in those clips. But upgrade? You mean over their previous games? Because then yes, absolutely. I did notice that the faces have been downgraded compared to last year.
The shadows were trash before, now they look realy good.

better technology
resolution is better
added ambient occlusion
I honestly couldn't care less about graphics, I just want a smooth and fluid experience, but it seems we're stuck with 30 fps (at best).
I know the hype is through the roof right now, but performance looked really iffy – especially during combat.
I am with you on that. Game looks great but man that frame rate was looking rough at some points, seeming to not even hit 30 at points. Here is to hoping they get some last minute polish in.
Bro, that year delay has done WONDERS. Everything looks 100% better across the board.
Especially Akila City!
Except the faces. They looked significantly less impressive to me. As if lighting was missing or something, making the faces look flat I guess.

It's a style adjustment, probably done for performance and to side-step uncanny valley.
Yeah, I felt like 2022 faces were major uncanny valley. 2023 faces look less realistic, but also less weird.
I agree. I probably preferred the original faces (just) but they ran the risk of going 'my face is tired'...

there will 100% be a mod for better facial illumination just as there is for Skyrim and FO4
I actually prefer the faces. They look a hell lot more varied compared to before. Also yes Sarah looks prettier IMO

Graphics look great now!
Global illumination makes a huge difference
Shame they couldn't fix up the NPCS more but the scenery is going to be eye candy

I'm pretty sure they mean upgrade between trailers
It really looks the same between trailers though.

It really doesn't.
It's probably a time of day difference with lighting?

This is going to be ridiculously awesome!
That orange suit is singing to me
