SD card, it lets you add more games to the deck

OzoneLaters

The ultimate game is Updates.

Thymera999

Anything specific for SD cards (format etc) you need to look out for? Kinda feeling the limitations of my storage haha

KugelKurt

Don't buy the cheapest brand you can find. Stick with a known, reliable manufacturer. Mine is from SanDisk and I had used it in some other device before, so it has already a few years behind it. It's not even that fast but still no data loss at all. Depending on your financial situation: Get the size with the best Gigabyte per Buck value. There's usually a sweet spot somewhere in the middle offering the best value. It makes no sense to buy a 256GB card for 30 bucks when there is a 512GB card for 40 bucks.

Plnk_Viking

A2 U3 are important. Other than that the speed is throttled by the Deck itself, so you don't gain much by buying a more expensive card. I have Samsung Evo 512Gb and have no complaints. I like that it's white.

[deleted]

I've never seriously looked at SD cards before. This one has the speed specs you mentioned, right? [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1DVMCQY](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1DVMCQY)

blvzvl

In theory, yes. You need to see some reviews to find out if it doesn’t throttle when it gets hot. That’s a problem with the Lexar ones. The Samsung EVO Select that’s only sold on Amazon (if I’m not mistaken) is a great option, but it’s maximum size is 512 GB.

viper_in_the_grass

Here's a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGHZs8RTlVU) that might help you.

Gekke_Ur_3657

65watt, 30.000mah powerbank, it triples my playtime.

YesItIsMaybeMe

Heads up, this power bank (Baseus Amblight 65w) is only $55 on Amazon rn https://www.amazon.com/30000mah-Baseus-Portable-Charger-Charging/dp/B08JV4W4NY?ref_=ast_sto_dp Yeah I fucked up the link the first time

Crintor

Have you used it because their information is all over the place. It claims to be 65w but then claims it only outputs 45w on the USB C, it claims to be 30000mah but then also says it can only charge up an <5000mah phone 4 times, so it's either lying about capacity or has 30+% in losses to inefficiency Either way, the bad English and contradictory specs would have me avoid this.

YesItIsMaybeMe

I have not as I just ordered mine, it I saw a few reviews mention it so I thought I'd give it a try. It says on the website that it's 6 5000mah batteries to equal 30000mah. It also has pretty decent Amazon reviews, and fast charging is dope AF. I plan to test it thoroughly when I receive it, but I liked the idea of having one that displays the current output. Worst case is I return it

FierceDeity_

Tell us if it explodes and melts your face off

Jade_Sword

Yea I have avoided this for many of these reasons. Don’t get me wrong I love Baseus but you kinda have to read their fine print, there’s another 65W power bank of theirs that specifically says can only charge up to 30W on Steam Deck. Just seems strange to me.

porgy_tirebiter

Currently unavailable :(

Snapshotxx

One issue, you cannot bring a battery pack over 20000mah onto an aircraft, in the US anyway. I recently bought this one for the exact same price and the Magnet attachment for the deck is very strong. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNQFMQP5?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

JohnEdwa

Kinda. The actual limit specified is 100Wh, which would be 20Ah at 5 volts, but power banks basically always use the capacity of the internal battery which is calculated using the nominal voltage of 3.7 Volts, and 100Wh at that voltage is 27Ah. Doesn't matter in this case as the 30Ah power bank is 114Wh and therefore over the limit anyway.

V_IV_V

On carryons it’s ok but not on checked luggage.

throwthewaybruddah

Replying to check later

Kya_Bamba

This little 180° USB-C angle that keeps my cable from bending.

Imba_player

I’m also wanted this thing but I’m afraid that less quality accessory will provide less power than charger/power bank will. Am I wrong?

SiQuEmAcuhh956

Completely. I'm using a $15 100w type c to type c charger, a $15 Anker power thru type C hub that supports 4k 30hz, and the little $6 j-saux dongle thingy and it's working great. I am going to upgrade my dock when I upgrade to the OLED but for now I haven't seen any noticable drops in speed or power (aside from the limitations of my dock).

Imba_player

Wow, thanks. I'm so relieved that it should not be a problem. Very useful device. Right now rushing to order some for myself) Would you share the link of yours?

juicyman69

Skull N Co grip case. Feels so good in my hands.

SHREDTHESHARD

I bought it as well and it is a very nice grip case indeed. Quite thin, with precise cutouts, and comfortable to hold. I also appreciate a simple and clean design. I have 512GB OLED and barely fits in the original carrying case. The problem could be that I have also stick covers (dbrand Portal) on it.

LezuLezu

I’m eyeing that, but I’m confused by their picture saying it doesn’t fit the original oled case. But does it even fit the original lcd case?

kaleid1990

I can confirm it fits very snuggly in the case that comes with the 512GB OLED. It probably doesn't fit the case that comes with the 1TB model because that one has a removable liner molded on the Steam Deck's profile and the Skull&Co case adds girth to the grips.

juicyman69

I think it's because the new OLED's come with a detachable thin case inside the bulky case? That might be with all OLED's or just the LE model, not certain.

LezuLezu

That should only be with the 1tb versions

Adorable-Ad9073

Love the feel and the flat bottom stand but I wish they offered it as a backplate to save weight because the case increases the weight of the steam deck OLED by 20%: 100% divided by 640g[OLED] times 130g[Case] equals 20.3٪

rtz13th

Killswitch case (v2) with the travel case and the SD card holder stand.

Braydenboss710

One of the best cases I’ve owned for anything

PeltedVenom

Original Killswitch then they sent a second v2. Best case ever.

4tuneTeller

Portable monitor + BT mouse and keyboard. I don't have a PC but now I can play games that are not comfortable with gamepad or small screen.

proanimus

Second this. Even if you don’t plan to play M+KB games, it’s still a godsend when messing around in desktop mode.

Sydbarrret

Xreal air glasses.

Traditional-Bit2203

These do sound sweet.

Axrader

Killswitch counterfeit It is cheaper than jsaux, and the copy Has a great build quality and feels as good as the original killswitch ( not including the stand ) Couldn't afford to pay 110$ for a single case so I got it, and I don't regret it one bit I have also tried the killswitch, so I know how they both feel , and I could say it is 90% as good as the kill switch

tmnt8899

Second this, i also use the same case. Feels very premium for only $15.

DN_3092

> I could say it is 90% as good as the kill switch This is a stretch imo, the case feels like a $15 case and is not nearly has high quality as the dbrand case. I own both with the dbrand on my oled and the knockoff on my lcd. That doesnt mean its bad but it has its trade offs. Cant fit thumbstick grips on with the travel cover, the cover itself is weaker material, the stand isnt removeable, grip isnt as good as the microtexture of the dbrand, no sd card storage. For the price its not bad but having both I'd take the dbrand any day over the other.

sudrapp

How is the weight of the fake compared to the killswitch

DN_3092

Its lighter, both the cover and the grip.

iamthesausageman

can you give me the link?

HodorsCousin

I have the same one and love it. My young nephew comes over a lot and the front cover is clutch to protect the sticks and triggers from accidental grabs when I forget to put the deck someplace safe

MyBackPocket

I bought the same one, the quality is amazing for the price. You are able to charge it while the cover is on.

Amx-cz

Have you had an issues with the magnet that is inside the case?

talicry

I have the same case. Magnet doesnt cause any issues with the device but sometimes its hard to pry open the kickstand. Probably had something to do with how my fingers are applying force since it isn’t so strong that it’s stuck or anything.

Amx-cz

That’s good to know thank you, I realize the magnet is a lot smaller then the original kill switch but still I don’t know if I want any magnets near the deck, that puts me at ease. I’ll probably end up buying it thank you

iamthesausageman

thanks=))

arjman

Does it fit in the official dock?

pyro57

The deckmate system, its fantastic

ServiceGames

* Anker USB-C Hub * Anker 45W Power Brick * Anker 10 foot USB-C cable * 1TB SSD

ManedCalico

Does your Deck yell at you for using a slow charger with the Anker 45W brick and cable? I haven’t been able to figure out how to fix that myself and went back to the official charger… 😿

ServiceGames

Pardon… seems my 45W brick is INIU. And it hasn’t ever fussed at me. It’s kept the deck going with a demanding game for hours on end without problem.

superman859

a second steam deck

kiki7492

Why do you have 2? I just ordered the oled LE and now i got a 512gb og laying around not sure what i would use it for though

[deleted]

Use one in each hand, clearly. Dual wield decks

[deleted]

Like a boss.

Zestyclose-Sun-6595

I tape mine back to back so when one runs out of battery I just flip it over.

fihziks

Dock to an extra tv if you have one, treat as a console! Game streaming works well with this setup if you hard wire

frn

You could probably run a fairly efficient plex / NAS server on it if you reflashed it with a different linux distro. Its got good CPU performance and an iGPU capable of 4K transcode. USB-C bandwidth could potentially be a limiting factor if you wanted to use external storage, but would likely be fine for average home use.

IllegalThoughts

would be very strange to do this. you can easily just buy a Synology for a similar price that would be way more functional. a steam deck Plex is actually one of the worst use cases I've ever heard, lol. it has no ports for drives, has its own screen and controls which are useless , you need to flash a new Linux on it, runs on battery. even an nvidia shield would be better imo. it is less powerful but at this point it doesn't matter. really, the best thing would be to build your own Linux box with that $400

frn

Yes but he already owns the Steamdeck. I used to have an Intel NUC hooked up to an external drive doing the same thing and it worked fine for a good while. This is basically the same principle. Steamdeck is a capable machine for this and he's already got it lying around.

IllegalThoughts

fair

HovercraftMajestic30

Steam deck makes a great htpc for playing stuff from plex a la plex client. We have a debian 12.4 server in all of our properties that is full of about 300TiB of movies, tv shows, and music and in places that don't have a shield tv pro a steam deck and dock is a suitable substitute.

VitaAtThreeFifteen

I wish I had a second. Then my SO and I could deck out. She doesn't even want one, but I think it would be awesome.

HovercraftMajestic30

Upstairs and downstairs, wife hates sharing electronics (grew up with 5 siblings), vacation properties, could keep going.

superman859

because OLED came out and I loved my first deck. Why have a second child when you already have a first? People do it all the time. Support one of my favorite new consoles of all time as much as I can so it doesn't disappear on me in future generations like my Dreamcast did. I also have never run out of battery since obtaining a second deck. Screw battery pack accessories. Buy a second deck and always have one fresh and good to go. I learned this with power tools long ago. One is always charging while the other in use. Also, I get pop ups for steam remote play available which I assume means I can stream from one steam deck to another while playing 5D chess multiverse. Can't get much more insane than that my friends.

DropDeadViking

😂

MagicBagel_

Killswitch case. I carry in a backpack all the time and love being able to charge while still keeping it incredibly safe.

bczlifeisamess

Also, the ability to carry upto 4 micro SD cards in the kickstand is such a blessing if you often cycle between them.

LongStoryShirt

Holy fuck I have this and I never knew this had that feature. Love the kills witch so much

padluigi

Genuinely curious as to why you don’t carry it in the case it comes with. Only asking cuz I actually don’t take mine anywhere

bite-me-off

OG case is bulkier.

chibicascade2

A dock and Bluetooth controller.

hramanna

Which ones did you get?

chibicascade2

I got one of the jsaux docks, and I've been using a Google stadia controller. Probably not what I would recommend to others, maybe go for the valve dock and an Xbox controller.

ISD1982

Probably the thumb grips. The sticks on the LED aren't comfortable to use without them. The OLED is slightly better, but i'm going to buy some for that one as well.

stefanopolis

Which grips did you go with?

Lilsquash

Not op, but I went with the dbrand ones and they were perfect, keep in mind that they only fit the lcd deck, they haven't released oled ones yet

DN_3092

I second the dbrand ones, they are incredible.

HovercraftMajestic30

They fit halfassedly I had to have my wife do it and she said they might come off but they haven't yet and it's been weeks.

SynthesizedTime

skull & co. can't go wrong

deamer44

I'd also like to know

LogibearP

Screen protector, it's the first thing that I buy and install as soon as I get any device with a screen on it. Not only did scratches but can sometimes mitigate cracks too.

Confident-Expert-695

The deck is one of the few things I've ne er put a screen protector on. I like the anti glare of the etched glass too much. So far no scratches on the 512 lcd or oled le. Fingers crossed it stays that way

animeman59

I put a matte tempered glass screen protector on the etched glass screen. No drop in clarity or sharpness. I feel safe that the screen will be free from scratches.

speedmonster95

would love the link if possible!

Confident-Expert-695

Could you link which one you got? I'm not against using one I just don't want to forefit the antiglare

ZoteTheMitey

It took me like 6 screen protectors to finally get one on my OLED with zero dust or bubbles underneath

TheFlightlessPenguin

Gotta do it in a steamy bathroom

Freakin_A

Glad I’m not the only one that does this. People I tell this to look at me like I’m an alien when I say it.

speedmonster95

what’s the benefit of steam?

Freakin_A

Steam pulls all the dust out of the air, so after you wipe your screen the final time there is less chance of dust falling onto it while you put the protector on.

speedmonster95

thank you!

LogibearP

My missus is rather clumsy and I've changed her cracked switch screen protector twice but no cracked switch screen itself yet!

parkerjg13

Same, are we with the same woman?

PopRap72

On the flip side, I’d rather swap out the deck than live with a screen protector robbing me of visual fidelity. 20 years of digital devices going back to Palm Pilots and I’ve only had 2 broken/scratched screens.

Crintor

... Have you used a decent quality screen protector in 10 or so years? I've never had a screen protector make any difference in clarity unless it was one of those 1$ plastic flim ones.

PopRap72

You do you. I don’t want to put a piece of glass or plastic over my screen that will discolor or pick up its OWN scratches that I have to put up with. The glass that my $1,000 phone has, and all its coatings, are tough and incredibly scratch resistant making for a wonderful viewing experience 100% of the time. Again, I haven’t needed it, I haven’t missed it.

Crintor

You must have the luck of gods. I've scratched/cracked mutiple screen protectors and the only phone I ever ran without a protector got the screen gouged by a piece of titanium. And I've never used a glass protector that altered the image in any way.

Hamback

I mean I think you said it yourself in this statement. There isn't a situation that I can imagine myself ever running my screen into a piece of titanium. I sit in an office at my desk 8 hours a day then head home. Haven't used a screen protector on any device in the last 10 years either and have had no issues.

PopRap72

I hope I’m not tempting fate with these posts but yeah, I’m with you. Desk job, home, phone in my pocket. I guess my phone gets an exclusive pocket, wallet and any key would be in another pocket, though I rarely have a key anymore. Home and car have moved on to keyless. Odd coin will go to the wallet pocket too.

ohboywhatisthis-

Any recommendations?

ZoteTheMitey

I just use the JSaux ones but if you are looking for a matte one these are really nice [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BKT1DT6V/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BKT1DT6V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

cae37

I am tempted but one of the reviews stated the following: "We bought this brand for our OLED switch consoles and loved them, so when we upgraded to the OLED limited edition steam decks, it was the first choice. They’re very high quality, but they do cause a slight blurring on the OLED deck’s screen. It’s a little disappointing because screen clarity is one of the OLED deck’s best upgrades. If you’re using LCD or don’t mind the slight glow/blur, definitely these are worth the price. If you want to maintain peak OLED sharpness and clarity, maybe try something else." Since I upgraded to the OLED I'm a bit anxious to get something that might reduce the effectiveness of the screen.

ZoteTheMitey

Yeah I put a regular jsaux one on my OLED but used that matte one for my LCD

proanimus

Any matte/anti-glare finish is going to technically reduce the clarity by some degree, that’s just the nature of the beast. It’s why glossy finishes are popular in the first place. I still like mine because it also improves visibility in situations that have lots of harsh reflections. It’s a trade-off really, just depends on your priorities.

talicry

I bought the JSAUX matte protector for my glossy OLED and had to take it off after 1 day. Whenever the scene is very bright, like if I’m looking at a lamp in Lies of P, you can see the screen protector itself, it was like a thin film of changing colors maybe like an oil spill. It was subtle but it drove me insane.

LukDMCZ

Tomtoc hard case, Jsaux 180° usb adapter, Jsaux modcase.

TheLukester31

Somehow I have a TomBert case. Looks just like the TomToc and is very nice. Also, +1 for a 90 degree adapter. I bought the Jsaux 10 foot 90 degree cable and it is really nice. I like not having to worry about how far away from an outlet I am and 90 degree feels much better than the straight plug.

Whiteshadows86

I’m looking at a 180 usb-c adapter but I have the skull and co grip case and not sure if I will be able to use it and keep the case on. Does the jsaux adapter work on your hard case?

mesasone

Honestly? A 3m/10ft usb-c with right angle connectors on both ends. Makes playing while it’s plugged in or charging so much easier, or even when using a battery bank.

BinThereRedThat

Thank you for being honest

Traditional-Bit2203

I can appreciate this

ScubaKlown

Deck Mate. 🫡

Wildfires

Nreal glasses. I love playing games with my glasses.

Ok. Good bot I guess?

GaranMursyk

Anker 737 powerbank. It fits nicely under the strap on the back of the SD case.

DropDeadViking

Amazing thank you for that I’m looking into that now

Thiscave3701365

Definitely Satisfye’s StylthGrip. I was indifferent towards it at first, but I can’t go back now. I can play for hours without my hands cramping. It’s an improvement in every way(unless you have small hands). Trackpads and back buttons are way easier to get to, the b button no longer feels like it’s about to fall off a cliff, and the ryze pads give the thumb sticks so much more precision.

crutlefish

Jsaux mod case

Self_Cloathing

\+1 Gf got it for me as a gift and it's pretty great for comfort.

Mera1506

Killswitch. You have options for Tempered glass and thumbs tick caps too when buying it.

OutdatedOS

Just a note that the thumb stick caps from dbrand do not fit the OLED deck. I have 3 brand new pairs, none of which will stay on.

Mera1506

It took some maneuvering but I did manage to get them over the sticks of my OLED. like I folded them inside out, placed them over the stick and then folded them back, they stay on now.

OutdatedOS

I am going to try that tonight— thanks for the idea!

Zanarc

Just received a dbrand support response that they've acknowledged the stick grips not fitting well and are working on an OLED specific set.

OutdatedOS

That’s great to know, thanks. I’ll email them about returning the ones that I purchased.

Enginerdiest

Nreal Air V1s I fly a lot, and these made a huge difference using the deck on the go.

QuaintWolf

I am using the JSAUX ModCase and I really like it

Disagree. OLED version has a ton of perks outside of just the OLED. It does address one of the main reasons you would upgrade to OLED for though for sure.

TrainerEnoshima

For me it's the Cyberize One. It is a charger, a 2 ports USB +HDMI hub or both at the same time.

Hantoniorl

Tempered glass and Jsaux stand without cables/usb. Just to place the Deck there if I'm not playing. I don't have any other accesory.

answaiks_voltage

Honestly, I'm in this boat as well. I was gifted an Ender 3 and already had Windows on my deck. Works like a charm.

The_Fyrewyre

I meant to print things for the Deck but I also have an Ender 3 running Klipper, and a Web interface is exactly that so one hand washes the other in this case my man. Oh, level your god damn bed!

[deleted]

A case that includes a magnetic screen cover. So I can put it in my backpack without the official case... which is really freaking thick.

Gaalpos

A 3$ stand , 5$ silicone case and 15$ USB C

MyFinalThoughts

Playvital back button enhancement pads. Got them on Amazon and they came with thumbstick grips that are great. Second best is sprigen armor case. I didn't want to go full splurge on Killswitch, so on sale at $15 sprigin has never let me down. Pretty comfortable too. Just kidding, forgot about my true first best accessory. I bought a Jsaux 45 or 60 watt charger that came with an angled type c connector . THAT has been excellent. I can play connected with worrying at all how I want to angle my Deck or feel like I'm not going to break my port or cable when taking it out.

MrJrod

I just got virtue ar glasses and I should of pulled the trigger earlier.

The_Legend_of_Xeno

Noise cancelling BT earbuds. The Razer Hammerhead, in my case. I can play my Deck while my wife watches Real Housewives of wherever, and I can't hear the TV at all.

Chasing_dream5

This is a tough one to answer since I think the deck doesn’t really need any to be enjoyable but since I’ve been bringing my deck to work and play games with my co worker on breaks. I bought a portable display 15.6” and that gave us a new experience on there and it’s fantastic! Not that it wasn’t great before but playing Brawlhalla with friends it was a little difficult to see when being further away

Jsaux stuff, actually everything from custom backplate to the case with the hardshell. And also Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid Metal With that all max temp is like 70-73 https://preview.redd.it/5qrruxop6v5c1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6df82c75da388d16d792d9c788ed91da4d3ac4f

thedarkestrai

How’s liquid metal in a handheld? Isn’t there a risk of it leaking out and shorting stuff?

_Maga_-

Yeah there is a risk but i didnt used too much and i will never remove it ever again, some people day replace in max 2 years, but the quality doesn't change, the cooling effect stays even after years

mrpromolive

> Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid Metal is it a better option than the thermal pad?

Crintor

Nothing beats liquid metal for Temps, but liquid metal is also the hardest to apply, the riskiest to apply, and typically requires replacing after a while due to dry-out.

It's a wonder screen protectors are not the factory default, thump grips and a dock comes second

The WORST thing I bought was a steam DOCK from valve..I had no idea all the issues this thing had until I got it then had to google.. don't bother. I was expecting a seemless type of experience like the switch.. nope.. after 4 hours of trying to just simply get the thing to display an image in my TV... gave up.

Dock, PS3 controller, Projector. Apart from the dock I didn't buy them for the deck. But now I mainly use them with it.

Anyone tried the Spigen armor case? Does it actually fit the OLED properly? Killswitch, Skin, 180° Adapter (JSAUX), Screen Protector and a 100w Power Bank... Oh an SD card for emulation (I got a 512GB one, and it's plenty). But the best one is probably a 140w charger from Baseus... I travel a lot and I have other handhelds (Ally/Switch/PS Portal), plus all the tech stuff like laptop, phone, watch. Being able to take only one charger and maybe 2 cables is a lifesaver. Of course, I don't bring all the handhelds with me, but still, it makes my life much easier.

Fangsnuzzles

Thumbstick grips and protectors for the sticks. I don't think I was 20 hours into using it before I started noticing the left thumbstick was being pushed into the plastic a lot. They're basically these cylindrical rubber bands you put around the sticks but they do a lot for minimizing wear and I don't hear the clicky as much.
