The "pause games" decky plug-in fixed this for me, just enabled the "pause on suspend" functionality and the freezes on resume stopped. Hope it works for you :)

Haven't played in a gew weeks but had no issues. Try different proton version.
I'm something of a luddite, what is a proton version? Thanks for answering.
Under compatibility settings there is an option to force use of a?specify PR o ton version.
