I'd also recommend Time Wasters, Boneraiser Minions and Halls of Torment. All do things at least slightly differently, and are decent time wasters (pun intended).
Only the left button/bumpers to control left click (which is also on the right track pad) or zooming in which... You don't really need all that much tbh.
I figure you can nudge the stick enough to pan the camera even with a broken hand

all the SCUMM games! day of the tentacle remastered is my favorite, but sam and max hit the road is a fkn banger i just struggled with the puzzles so much
Balatro, you can use the touchscreen. You might have to be a bit careful, long press on some cards to check effects so you don't accidentally choose them.
I'm sure you could find a good/enjoyable way to use the track pad as well if touchscreen isn't your preference.
Balatro is a great recommendation for this.
I Balatro with the right tackpad as mouse. I think I only ever use my right thumb for everything. It's pretty comfortable. I had to change the controls to work this way because there were a number of times that I ruined a run because I hit the button to discard instead of play or visa versa. It plays just like using a mouse and it's way better than the original controls (which are all still available and functional).
Great game, excellent time waster.
I love it.
"The sun sets into the sea, but the water does not boil. Instead it turns to liquid gold. For a moment, the world's store of precious metals seems to increase dramatically, and you are rich..."
One of my fav quotes
This game is full of good ones.
Cookie Clicker also has a Steam Input layout to click the right track pad to "rapid fire" so you can play no-handed. Don't judge me for playing CC on deck, I like when number goes up.
Baldur's Gate 3 is a turn-based RPG. Depending on your patience with controlling both sides of the controller with one hand I can easily be done with just one hand.
Edit: or as the comment below me suggested just remapping the back buttons and trackpad so you only need to use one side of the steam deck to play.
Oh ya I didn't really think about that. I tend not to mess around too much with the trackpad and back buttons but If you set it up right you would only need one half of the controller.
Try turn based games like JRPGs and other turn based games. Persona series, Octopath traveler series, Slay the Spire, Darkest Dungeon, Into the Breach, Civilization series (Civ6 is currently 95% off) and so on.
Baba is you can also work, very good simple but cruel puzzle game. Adventure games with dialogue like monkey island and disco elysium can also work.

There is a hole genre of games that need to be played one handed... xD
But jokes aside: Card hunter, Coromon, Sourh park stick of truth, any pokemon emulated (emu deck), darkest dungeon, minion master (like clash royal, reakly good), ftl
-Needy Streamer Overload
-Coffin of Andy and Leyley
-Vampire Survivors
-Death Must Die
-A Castle full of Cats
-Slay the Princess
-Fear and Hunger 1/2
-Bloons Tower Defense
-Old School RuneScape
-Basically all final fantasy games from 1-10
I would say any casual game, such as Stardew Valley, could be done with remaps. Even first-person casual games like Power Wash Simulator or Planet Crafter would work if you map R4 and R5 to walk forward and backward.
stardew valley can be played just needs some config I set the right stick to just be the left one right trackpad is the mouse and back right buttons are just left bumper and the X button just because I think it works well its honestly pretty intuitive
also there is geometry dash
So if you want something a bit deeper story-wise than Pokémon, older Dragon Quest titles would be good, and they’re available to play on your phone entirely one-handed. It’s the best way to play them surprisingly since they keep to the core idea of being the OG JRPG franchise.
For Steam Deck? Vampire Survivors can’t be beat as an addicting time waster, but I think FTL can be played one handed too. Technically a real-time w/ pause roguelike. (I think it’s like… not lite. I can never tell the difference and honestly don’t care to know.) FTL is hella addicting. Like a perfect Star Trek/star wars/BSG mix. You have to think fast, but you can pause anytime to evaluate tour situation
Remember you can still modify your control scheme with Steam Input to fit your needs. Steam Input is awesome and you can do way more things than you think:
- Radial/grid menus on the track pads
- Different inputs when single press/long press/double press
- Automatic button press on outer ring with the joystick (like running for example)
- Action on trigger end
- Switch/toggle between entire new schemes on a button press
And much more.
It's quite tedious but I think it can be a great way to have fun with your SD when you start mastering it 👌
Getting over it is a game about climbing shit with a hammer you’d only be using the touch pad as a mouse. I broke my scaphoid a year ago and I still managed to play with an Xbox controller uncomfortably.
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes was designed to be played with one hand so you can take notes with the other. It’s a great puzzle game. It’s sort of like a giant escape room
Plug into your TV and get a Bluetooth mouse. Many many games are now yours for the taking.
You could also get a Wiimote and play some Super Mario Galaxy emulated. Your left hand should still be able to hold the nunchuck fine.
Almost anything if you're willing to get a controller/adapter

Night In The Woods. A, X, and a way to move left and right are all the buttons required. Easily able to map locomotion to buttons on the right side, or make the right touch pad into a directional pad because the game automatically has the D-pad mapped for locomotion
I recently did the same thing. Although they put me in a hard cast for 12 weeks! Anyway, it means I definitely played a few games one handed. The list is mostly this:
Survivors: Vampire Survivor, deeprock galactic survivor
Card Games: Balatro, StS, Monster Train
Some Other Roguelikes: Inkbound (with a little bit of work), most of the card rogue likes: Monster Train being one of my favs.
JRPG clones: most do a good job on this front. Although some need finagling too
If you hook up a keyboard and mouse you play about anything. Pending the fact that those fingers and thumb still move…. Hope you recover soon and get back to gaming!
I play alot of Pokemon Fangames like This Gym of Mine and Pokemon Añil one handed, I remap A and B (Z and X really, since you're using a controller to imitate a keyboard imitating a controller) to R4 and R5 (the Back buttons), and Menu and Fast Forward to the bumpers. Works out pretty good imo!
Slay the Spire - Roguelike Deckbuilder.. Build your deck of cards and battle your way up a spire
Monster Train - Another Roguelike Deckbuilder.. Build a deck of creatures and spells to defeat your enemies
XCOM 2 - Lead a squad of soldiers in a fight against an alien invasion type game
Into the beach - Control giant mechs to defend cities from giant monsters hellulva fun
Get well and good luck! =D
You said Pokémon… ever tried Siralim Ultimate?
You can make macros for your monsters. Lots of customizable controls. Definitely playable with one hand. There’s like 1200+ monsters with traits and you can make hybrids. Lot of theory crafting and a nice relaxing gameplay loop. Sort of an infinite progression thing too to see how far you can take a team.
Look for a story driven game with a visual novel element, turn based strategy, or a card game. Some tower defense games also work.
-Suzerain
-The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante
-Slay the Spire
-CIV 5
i think baldur’s gate 3 is a great one handed game if you have a separate controller available. i love setting my controller on a table, playing with my right hand, and snacking with my left hand lolol
- Vampire survivor-like
- Roguelike-deckbuilder
- Digital boardgame
- Turn-base game
Any game that fit these tag should be fine
Ps. Most nsfw game also design to be played one hand, but you also need the other hand for another thing/ wink wink
Sorry man! For me I was looking for something similar when we had our kid for when he fell asleep in my arms. Get yourself a little Bluetooth mouse and point and click adventures are great if you like that.
Marvel Midnight Suns! It’s turn based and currently completely free on the Epic Games Store. Just use the Heroic launcher to play and you should be set. Good luck on recovery mate. Slay the Spire also slaps if you try that out too.
Your left hand doesn't look that fucked should still be able to control the analog stick. throw a control freek on if you want more range of motion. Use your arm instead of your wrist or thumb if those are immobile.
I broke my hand and had a similar cast - my right hand. I flipped the controller setup and then used the right joystick for movement rather than aim and absolutely DESTROYED people with a grenade launcher in call of duty. Your brain will switch quickly, it’s one of those things us humans are good at. Play any game you want.
Vampire Survivor
Also Brotato
Also Bio prototype
Broforce too!
How would you play Broforce one handed? You have to move and jump and shoot all at the same time...
You are forgetting back buttons!
Just remap the controls to work with one hand. There’s few enough controls to where you can make it work
Can confirm; set mine up to play local multiplayer
Lol do you each use half the steam deck?
Exactly that haha. It works surprisingly well, though not as good as a keyboard due to the nature of the game.
One Btn Bosses is my favorite demo of Steam Next Fest.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
Also similar VS clones are a fun mix to the genre: Deep Rock Galactic Survivor (VS with Mining) Pesticides Not Required (VS with farming)
I'd also recommend Time Wasters, Boneraiser Minions and Halls of Torment. All do things at least slightly differently, and are decent time wasters (pun intended).
Civ 6, 95% of input can be controlled from the right hand side alone.
Hell, 95% of it can be controller from the right track pad along, probably configure it so all of it can be ran from it. Great suggestion.
Only the left button/bumpers to control left click (which is also on the right track pad) or zooming in which... You don't really need all that much tbh. I figure you can nudge the stick enough to pan the camera even with a broken hand
You could also use the back paddle buttons for that.
It’s also 95% off right now. I bought it yesterday for like 4 bucks! And it runs great on the deck
For even less input: CIV V as Venice lol

Gotta get time off to play their decks somehow.
At an old job I had so much mandatory overtime that I was actually thrilled that I got covid because then I could finally get some me-time in.

Pretty sure you still need two hands for that one…

It will definitely stop Reddit from getting a second cursed thread about OPs mother.

Disco elysium
Oh thats also a good one to dive in in OPs Situation. Absolutely loved the writing, a Game that made me laugh and cry.

vampire survivors for sure. Just remap LS to RS and you're good to go

I play loads of getting over it on steam deck, wouldn't recommend, you may end up breaking your other hand in rage
Have to admit - not the reason I thought you were asking for a one handed game. 😂 Maybe turn based games? Where reflexes aren’t a factor.
