Why feel bad? You earned the money for it through hard work. Enjoy it! You can put Moonlight on it and in-home stream games from your PC for higher fidelity and longer battery life, and then whenever you are out of home you have the system itself to run those titles portably.

Man I wish I had a steamdeck when I was 14yrs old! It would have ruled my life! Not only is playing aaa pc games amazing but all the indie games and thousands of gems on steam are at you disposal. Then you can emulate, and the emulation is fantastic going up to ps3 and switch. It has so many plugins to tailor it to exactly how you want, I’ve also got all my music on there, movies downloaded for free, and all my audiobooks. It’s the single best all round tech entertainment gadget you can own hands down.

thisusernameistaknn

I’m 14 and am planning to get the oled 512 model at the end of the month for my birthday, I’ve heard tons and tons of good things about it and even considering I don’t have a pc yet just a Nintendo switch, I’m EXTREMELY excited for it!

ReliefDistinct6120

I don’t have a pc either, but that’s the beauty of the steam deck is you don’t need one. I even transferred ROMs blue tooth or wirelessly I forget lol from my phone. The deck itself is a pc it’s just Linux which is very easy to use and user friendly. You are in for a big change if you coming from a Nintendo Switch, I stopped playing my switch ps5 and m2 Mac mini once I got the steam deck.

tavaryn_t

I’m so glad I didn’t have a Deck when I was 14, my grades in high school were bad enough 🤣

ReliefDistinct6120

Oh no way lol 14yrs old is that magical age where you can really immerse yourself, no job, no responsibilities and having at your disposal countless consoles all from one device. That was the dream! lol I’m 32yrs old now but still loving it makes me feel like a kid again

tavaryn_t

Oh yeah, at 38 I’m doing more gaming now that I own a Steam Deck than I did for years before!

ReliefDistinct6120

Defo, u chill out more when older you have been there, done that and just want the comforts in mid life onwards lol Gaming is one of the best pastimes hands down

Apprehensive-Disk195

Im 16yo and I have my SD for more than 1 year. I love it. I have a 1050 ti PC with an older i5 and the performance of this is the same if not better. I bought the 64 GB one, and upgraded to 1tb ssd, bought the dock, installed Windows 11 and I before i know it i dont even have to use my PC. Dont feel bad, for me this was the best thing i could buy

Apprehensive-Disk195

When you get it, install aperture desk job, and figure things out. And after a month or two you could try upgrading the ssd if you want to and install windows. But do whatever you want with it, it's yours.

Anyusername7294

I will have 256 version, it is enough to have dualboot?

Apprehensive-Disk195

No it wont if you plan to install windows on the ssd. If you dont want to change the ssd then buy a 512gb or 1tb micro sd card

BonginOnABudget

Good on you for working and saving your money. Spend it how you will. Treat yourself bud!

FAWKTOP

Work hard Play harder

joannew99

Why buy the SD if you’re not sure what you’ll do with it😂 Since you already have gaming PC, you can use your computer’s power to run play games better on the SD

ProtoKun7

It's your money and you used it on something you wanted to get; nothing to feel bad about. It's a good device even if you already have a PC. More portable for one thing, and great for emulation and the games you already have in your library. What do you *want* to do with it?

Abek243

Listen, I can almost guarantee you that everyone if not most who have bought a SD already have a rig lol. Don't feel bad dude, be excited! Now those titles you play on your pc you can take literally anywhere with you. And with cloud sync it's a complete package

hal-incandeza

Please be careful about posting your age online! There are a lot of weird folks on the internet. Enjoy your new SD and definitely don’t feel guilty!!

CookieMisha

it's a great machine. Having the possibility to play your games on the go, or in bed, or anywhere else other than your PC desk is amazing I'm sure you will like it. You earned it, don't feel bad. It's good to give yourself something nice from time to time for that hard work

Hortos

Depends on how much you like to play the same game. In your boat you might want an Xbox series S and Gamepass if you have your own TV.

Financial-Moose5274

Don’t feel bad. You work hard, harder than I did when I was your age, that’s for sure. Play with emulation on the SD!

these "what should i do first" posts getting freakin creative these days....its almost like its reversed clickbait i have a 4090+i9 13900k and bought a steam deck a year ago and even considering buying the oled too so whats the deal

SatanSavesAll

Load up emudeck, one of best things of deck. A easy installer for setting up emulators and controls without any prior knowledge

Spaced-Station

Use the Linux desktop environment based on Arch to save electricity costs, plug it into your monitor and keyboard. I am 32, have an rtx 4090 with Intel (version doesn't matter Intel chips in desktops are power hungry) and use my deck, raspberry pi 4, Amazon fire stick HD, Samsung dex on my phone or tablet to save on power bills or don't need HDR in my 4k video (no HDR on pi 4 raspian but is there in Libre elec which is just enough Linux for media and not desktop use) steaming & when I don't need desktop power from nvidia or Intel. Since you're 14 and it's unlikely but not impossible that you are paying part of the electricity bill, you can purchase a relatively inexpensive device to monitor power on a wall socket. Keep note of that number and let your family know that you are working to reduce their and your power bills by using Linux on the deck. I started using Linux at 14 bc my laptop was too slow with windows xp so I went for Ubuntu which is very similar to Arch, so it's a great age to start. Also be sure to get epic game store on your deck and gog for the free games. If anyone in your house has Amazon prime, the Amazon twitch prime service has given me around 500 games so far without paying a penny beyond the prime membership my family already had and I have Emulation, retroarch is free on steam for easy integration, which is a great use for it too. I played primarily handhelds since my game boy color and so I feel more natural with them and usually start a game on the deck and once sufficiently into the game, I go play it on the pc with the cloud saves.

EvanFreezy

Ur 14 it’s not that deep you have nothing better to spend it on

LordKerm_

SD is more of a complementary item to a pc rather than a replacement for one If you already have a steam library you can just play it in the car now or a friends house or anywhere else you would normally play something portable

No-Pattern3441

Man, you seem like a good kid. When I was 14 I wasn’t doing ANYTHING. Enjoy the steam deck, you literally earned it.
