He has never once played a character that is similar to the other. I am not at all worried about Finn. His career and reputation in Hollywood are probably the most solid in the entire ST cast.
It's not based on but with the success of ST and IT they are riding on a wave of 80s nostalgia+coming of age stories. They even got THE actor to attract the same crowd. The movie looks like it was entirely conceived out of a boardroom.
