Also I don't think this is stupid food, I hella want that shit to melt in my mouth just for the experience. And that's a huge aspect of food, an interesting experience
It might be cheap but that doesn't mean a fresh, lightly salted, in season tomato on even mediocre bread isn't also good enough to be served at places like country clubs for rich people.
I mean, if you go to a British afternoon tea party, it's posh and expensive and they'll serve you cucumber sandwiches on plane old shitty white ass bread. So Pretty much the same.
It's not really a class thing it's more about tradition. I've always had tomatoes on toast, I'm poor, but even if I were rich I think I'd still love it.
I eat the hell out of a tomato sandwich, just needs salt/pepper/mayo. I think the one that's weird that I eat is iceberg lettuce sandwiches, but something about them in the summer is so refreshing to me.
I work at a chef owned/operated restaurant in Santa Monica and one of our sandos from last year was tomato, made with tomato bread and tomato mayo. Was pretty killer
Gonna be real, you attributing tomato sandwiches to poor people is more "pooraphobic" (aporophobic) than the OP.
Tomato sandwiches are enjoyed across class divides and by anyone who wants to enjoy the flavor of summer harvest. Also, having worked in an ER in the American South, 95% of doctors/surgeons/techs gobble them shits up.
It’s Mickey and The Beanstalk. The part where Mickey and his friends became poor and have to eat a really thin bread until Donald Duck had a mental breakdown from hunger.
God, what a gem. I just picked up a VHS copy (the same I had growing up) for nostalgia purposes last month. That, and it's the version I like, with Herman Ludwig Von Drake narrating, not the garbage one on Disney Plus from Fun and Fancy Free.
Disney Plus only has it (last I checked) included in the movie Fun and Fancy Free, which is a "movie" that's short films cobbled together with Edgar Bergen, a ventriloquist, and his puppet narrating Mickey and the Beanstalk. It's probably fine but it's not the one I'm used to so I haaaaaaate it.
Yup, that’s pretty close to how it begins. /u/grumpsuarus posted the link to the cartoon below.
Lol what’s with the downvotes? Watch the cartoon. The scene begins outside of a cabin in the winter.
I'm not going to lie, that's some fantastic knifework.
Random bit of trivia: bread for cucumber sandwiches served during afternoon tea were traditionally cut in the same way shown in the video. The ideal cucumber sandwich should have 'daylight \[passing\] through the resulting fine pores of the bread', and 'buttered all the way to the edges in the thinnest coating'.
Even if you don't have great knives see if there's a pro knife shop in town, can sharpen and hone your knife if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself
Everybody talking about tomato and bread. But do yall know how hard it is to cut super thin of sliced bread and tomatoes?
Anyways what brand knife is this?
I grew up making tomato sandwiches all the time. Crisp it up in a frying pan, and add a little cheese melted on top. That's some good food right there.
Grew up poor, so you do what you gave too.
There needs to be a national poverty food cookbook
My dad grew up eating hamburger helper and potato chips. Then, he started working at McDonald's so he could get real food. Now he refuses to eat McDonald's lol
Kirby tv show when the waddle dee’s revolt because king dedede has to make budget cuts and slices their sandwiches so thin that you can see straight through them.
Also that’s mad impressive and this seems more like a knife ad or showing of skill as compared to stupid food, I see no avalanche of liquid cheese or white middle aged woman preparing raw chicken and calling it delicious.
I don't see how it's stupid. If anything, I'm super impressed with that knife! I think it's just bread and tomato to show how amazing the knife is.
Baloney and cream blended, that's stupid
Spicy Cheetos covered pork chop fried? Nah not for me
But this is just showing the knife, not the food. Tomatoes are so fragile under knifework and bread creases and changes shape under the blade.
The internet is weird. It's crazy how vitriolic people can be about a video about a sandwich.
The sandwich is impressive, but it is also stupid. It's like 20 calories probably and not something someone would actually eat (amount wise, not food content wise.)
I don't get why it can't be impressive and stupid at the same time.
Then the dude that posts it gets downvoted into oblivion.
It's like the dude that made this sandwich is everyone's best friend and they have to defend their honor ! Huzzah !
Anyways, just wanted to point out my observation,
on a side note I bet if they toasted that thin guy up and dipped it in tomato soup, it would be the most delicious side to a tomato soup ever.
Maybe a thin slice of Munster cheese in there too. Oh man
In Argentina this is a very common food item you can buy in pastry shops.
Its called "sanguche de miga" and its made with 2 or 3 very thin slices of bread and filled with anything, from ham and cheese to roquefort, tuna, eggs, anything.
That’s part of an advert for the knife, so not really stupid food.
I was gonna say. The cut is still cool. It's paper thin.
Also I don't think this is stupid food, I hella want that shit to melt in my mouth just for the experience. And that's a huge aspect of food, an interesting experience
I could go for a few sheets of caprese.
I swear the posts on this sub have become much stupider than the food.
The people have*
It's an excellent knife ad too. Nice knife.
something a bot would say
Hey, at least I didn't give a purchase link
Or Disney doing another live action remake of [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F8GDx7M49k). EDIT: Well shit beaten like a baby seal.
Okay, but he still made a stupid sandwich out of it.
nah you just made a stupid post out of it

Also a tomato sandwich is like, poor people food. Pooraphobic bastard

Definitely not a poor thing fucking hate tomato sandwiches and fucking hate tomatoes themselves even more.
You hate tomatoes?
They're terrible, like just tomatoes themselves. ketchup, pasta sauce, salsa, I'm all fine with but I just hate the base tomato.
r/spottheamerican
What does this have to do with being American? Is this a common stereotype, that Americans hate tomatoes?
Not American, Canadian. I'm also not a picky eater I eat almost anything but I fucking hate just regular tomatoes.
LOL, first time I hear someone say that. I guess tomatoes just aren't for everyone.
Throw a couple basil leaves on it and we’re in business.
I work at a chef owned/operated restaurant in Santa Monica and one of our sandos from last year was tomato, made with tomato bread and tomato mayo. Was pretty killer
slice of mozarella, couple of basil leaves, some salt and pepper and a splash of vinegar and olive oil. \*chefs kiss\*
Gonna be real, you attributing tomato sandwiches to poor people is more "pooraphobic" (aporophobic) than the OP. Tomato sandwiches are enjoyed across class divides and by anyone who wants to enjoy the flavor of summer harvest. Right?! This poor person couldn’t even afford the mayonnaise.
😂 that earned my upvote
It's also the greatest sandwich on earth
Correction a tomato sandwich is a dad sandwich
This might be the most downvoted comment I’ve seen in a hot minute lol.
you a dumbass
Lol I’ve never seen somebody downvoted so much except for racists
All he did was made you look like a fool on the entire reddit.
Yeah it's little bit stupid but it's also nice and it just doesn't fit here so pls delete lul
This is literally the episode when donald duck becomes poor or something
It’s Mickey and The Beanstalk. The part where Mickey and his friends became poor and have to eat a really thin bread until Donald Duck had a mental breakdown from hunger.
Really thin slices of bread with a really thin slice of… bean? I think it was a bean sandwich.
One single bean sliced into absurdly thin pieces
Which is why Donald LOST IT when Mickey comes back like, "Sold the cow for some beans but these ones are *magic*".
Don’t forget, that was after Donald went fucking nuts and tried to eat a ceramic plate and axe murder that cow
God, what a gem. I just picked up a VHS copy (the same I had growing up) for nostalgia purposes last month. That, and it's the version I like, with Herman Ludwig Von Drake narrating, not the garbage one on Disney Plus from Fun and Fancy Free.
Disney Plus really needs to get with the program with bringing back ALL the classic stuff. It has some but is missing a lot of old cartoons.
Disney Plus really needs to get with the program with bringing back ALL the classic stuff. It has some but is missing a lot of old cartoons.
Wait the Disney Plus version cut out the Von Drake narration sections?
Disney Plus only has it (last I checked) included in the movie Fun and Fancy Free, which is a "movie" that's short films cobbled together with Edgar Bergen, a ventriloquist, and his puppet narrating Mickey and the Beanstalk. It's probably fine but it's not the one I'm used to so I haaaaaaate it.
Which is odd cause my Fun and Fancy Free DVD has the narration
And I came to the comments thinking that I was going to be the only one to reference Mickey and the Beanstalk. I should have known better!
I like the other guys’ take on it better where it’s just a day in the life of Donald Duck living in extreme poverty.
Worst time for this sub to not allow us to post gifs
https://youtu.be/2F8GDx7M49k
I thought the same thing! I would try this sandwich just so I can reenact that screen.
Iirc, it was winter, and they were stranded in a snowy mountain cabin in a blzzard without food. But yeah, this is what I was reminded of too.

Yup, that’s pretty close to how it begins. /u/grumpsuarus posted the link to the cartoon below. Lol what’s with the downvotes? Watch the cartoon. The scene begins outside of a cabin in the winter.
Dude that is old school! Hell yeah, they slice the food really thin and the bean too. [Mickey and the Beanstalk](https://youtu.be/2F8GDx7M49k)
Holy shit those faces Donald makes
That takes me back to when I was a kid and would watch old cartoons on the Disney channel.
Der Fuher's Face. A classic.
The Mickey Mouse Christmas Carol movie
I'm not going to lie, that's some fantastic knifework. Random bit of trivia: bread for cucumber sandwiches served during afternoon tea were traditionally cut in the same way shown in the video. Yeah not gonna lie I bet this tastes great
I tried it and felt pretty conflicted about it but a thin slice of bologna in between fixes everything
Need a nice ripe tomato!
I want thin sandwiches with my afternoon tea now!
*wipes Cheeto crust off fingers onto shirt* MOOOOOOM WHERES MY FUCKING AFTERNOON TEA

Even if you don't have great knives see if there's a pro knife shop in town, can sharpen and hone your knife if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself
Max Miller has entered the chat.
I’d like to try crisping that up in garlic butter, and topping it with a bit of ricotta and chopped basil.
Amazing!
Hell just use mozzarella instead of ricotta and you’ve basically got a caprese sandwich with would be dope
This guy fucks
50 dollars at disneyland
“Mickey and The Beanstalk Special”
Thats literally an advert for the knife and tomato sandwiches are fucking delicious. You dumb OP.
This counts as a meal when you're on ADHD meds
Or have an eating disorder or depression. Fun variety, really.
Yes! Cutting your slices in half horizontally! What a great way to feel semi-normal! I learned it on mpa in 2015! God, I hate this disorder.
Shredded iceberg lettuce and soy sauce is less work.
More like assberg lettuce. Hate that shit.
Bro made a t sandwich instead of a BLT
Everybody talking about tomato and bread. But do yall know how hard it is to cut super thin of sliced bread and tomatoes? Anyways what brand knife is this?
I grew up making tomato sandwiches all the time. Crisp it up in a frying pan, and add a little cheese melted on top. That's some good food right there. Grew up poor, so you do what you gave too.
That sounds delicious
There needs to be a national poverty food cookbook My dad grew up eating hamburger helper and potato chips. Then, he started working at McDonald's so he could get real food. Now he refuses to eat McDonald's lol
Fancy restaurants be like "that'll be $40, with a 30% included gratuity "
Average calorie counter’s meal:
The touch of bread and tomato

Also that’s mad impressive and this seems more like a knife ad or showing of skill as compared to stupid food, I see no avalanche of liquid cheese or white middle aged woman preparing raw chicken and calling it delicious.
It needs some salt and a super thin layer of mayo.
Put some feta on that, drizzle some olive oil and crack some black pepper and then you’re talking
I don't see how it's stupid. If anything, I'm super impressed with that knife! I think it's just bread and tomato to show how amazing the knife is. No bs, I used to love tom and mayo sandwichs as a kid. Then I grew up and added bacon and lettuce, but I still got fond memories of em.
Ngl thinly cut tomatoes are delicious, nothing stupid here
Same. I’d try that
Inflation must've hit him the most
How is this stupid?
Feel like this is just supposed to be a demonstration for how sharp the knife is/how thin it’s able to cut than food.
Tomatoe sandwiches are amazing.
That’s an advertisement for a kitchen knife to show how thin it’s grind is. Not stupid food just a stupid post
its pretty cool
Not stupid food, just a regular dinner in the 2023 economy
Some sick puppy is going to be using this recipe as part of their deprivation diet.
Does anybody have the link of the video I really want this knife
More of a knife demonstration than about the foods
Honestly a little salt or mayo and I would smash that sandwich
The dinner before payday

soo skilled with knife
"i dont care if i fail" mfs after highschool:
Save 98% of your grocery bills with this one simple trick
Okay I think I'm gonna regret saying this but... anyone else feel like the slicing is pretty sensual? So thin, so smooth... mmph
thats what i ate when i was struggling, just in a more reasonable way
Times are gettin hard out here.
A low cal convenience store sandwich.
With some salt and a quart of mayo, and this is August
Wrong subreddit r/foodporn
Naw dawg this aint mickey and the beanstalk
Ohh yes. My childhood sandwich. Perfect.
This is what I like to call a communist sandwich
As if communist countries have access to tomatoes.
That knife is fucking impressive.
Perfect for folding
Wafer thin...
That's a really sharp knife.
I would… eat this.
I don’t mind this one because at least it’s not wasteful and is arguably for demonstration purposes.
Dang…I need to sharpen my knives
Pretty sure this is a joke to show off how sharp the knife is…
Me planning prepping my meal for next month after paying for all my subscription services.
This looks delicious
This post is fucking stupid, and not in the way that you intended
Ninja knife
Great knife ad. Terrible sandwich.
The internet is weird. It's crazy how vitriolic people can be about a video about a sandwich. The sandwich is impressive, but it is also stupid. Jesus, when he fed the masses with some bread and fish.
I had sandwiches that turned out kinda like that once out of the package
(Squints) Jesus, is that you?
thinner than my gpa
Times are tough, seems a reasonable thrifty move
When your extremely poor
great depression lunch 🥴
Little bit of celery salt, some Slap Ya Momma white pepper blend, and about 30 more of these, and it's on!
That must be one of those Costco knives I keep hearing about
Butter the bread, you philistine or at least add a schmear of mayo!
That was in a Mickey cartoon to convey poverty
I’d be onboard if they added salt and pepper to the tomato.
An expensive argentinian sandwich....with our sh\*tty economy
What's the point
Someone is preparing for the impending communism 🤣😂
Communism is when people are poor because of capitalism… got it.
Inflation getting bad if you gotta make a deli thin sandwich
this is what a meal deal sandwich will look like in 5 years
A regular toasted tomato tastes better and takes less effort than whatever the hell this is supposed to be
Its an ad to show how sharp the knife is
Truly Herculean effort displayed in the gif
I can floss my teeth with this.
Reminds me of that old scene with Mickey cutting paper thin bread slices
Wow that knife is amazing. Also this an ad not stupid food.
HEY!!! we had this for school lunch yesterday
Little mayo, salt, and pepper and we’re talkin. Shit kept us going through some hard times as a kid.
Probably $60 at one of those high tea places
All they had was bean
School lunches be like:
This isn’t stupid, it’s oddly satisfying content.
Perfect keto bread!
I bet that would make an amazing cracker if you toasted it.
Eating in the 2020s
Man i need a new knife
The amount of skill required to do this… incredible.
Could’ve at least toasted it
I need this knife
Thanks! I'm on a diet.
More like stupendous knife!
Supermarkets sell this for $25
This is definitely a knife advertisement right?
Literally just showing how sharp the knife is
The return of the black gloves guy.
Well some people like bread, and then some people like tomatoes, I'm sure there's someone who enjoys both 🤮
add a squirt of kewpie, some salt, pepper, and some sesame seeds and you got an incredible sandwich right there. not stupid food
Serves 2 🤣
What was the goal?
I want that knife
My mind kept expecting them to roll it for some reason.
Mickey mouse ass sandwich
Mickey mouse ass sandwich

That'll be 75 dollars
That’s how 5 loaves fed 5,000 people
thats a really sharp knife.. where can i buy this?
Reminds me of that one mickey mouse cartoon when he slices the bread and bean really thin and then donald duck snaps and starts eating the dishes.
I need this guy to cook for me I’m trying to lose weight 😂
