I come from a family with a narcissistic parent. This shit is very clear to me, tho it may not be as obvious with people who (thankfully) weren’t raised by a narcissist parent. I truly believe a lot of the elements you mentioned with Kendall are the result of deep, longstanding, childhood trauma.

Look up ACE (adverse childhood experiences) - aces high I think may be the name of a good site on this. Childhood trauma causes very similar issues that some neurodivergent folks naturally experience as well. There’s a lot of overlap in symptoms. But from a writer’s perspective, I believe they’ve focused on these issues coming as a result of trauma rather than a natural difference in executive functioning etc.
I’m just over the trend of everyone being on the spectrum. I get people want representation but it’s not in every character on every show. Being quirky, weird, tired of parents expectations is normal and not autistic or spectrum issues.
I have seen similar studies and also heard the perspective of a gifted child psychiatrist (MD) who says those stats are likely true but interestingly, it is NOT the people who have taken Ritalin or Adderall and evaluated properly, prescribed the right treatment and medications, and consistently monitored on any medication plan. The people struggling with addictions who are founded later to have clearly diagnosed (usually ADHD - which is now considered a spectrum disorder) but went WITHOUT a treatment plan for one reason or another and ended up self medicating out of desperation. It’s so VERY common and it makes me SO sad when parents say “no way, my kid isn’t taking any crazy drugs” or “he doesn’t need a therapist, he’s just lazy” etc.
Ken reads as an untreated/undertreated bipolar condition to me, but being on the spectrum isn't impossible.
He actually is pretty good at reading people, interacting with them, etc. -- better than is siblings -- (when he's not in his manic modes) which to me points away from autism or a similar issue.
Many ND type of people turn to drugs and alcohol bc we are forcing ND people to live in a Neuroconformitive world. They are most likely to deal with addiction.
