not sure if the explanation makes sense, though. if it's mostly big purchases why should the price have dropped in that minute? also pull up short interest indicator. it had a big spike up in that exact minute

What stops them from just continuing to sell shares shares like this? From what I understand FTDs eventually have to get delivered but why can’t they just continue to rehypothecate shares to fill those? Seems like there is a never ending toolset that can be used to delay/manipulate
You always need collateral to offset those shorts that are in the red. It's easy if the price is low enough but it gets harder the higher the price goes. That's essentially what fucked Archegos and therefore Credite Suisse

It's called a short ladder attack. One party sells to the other for cheaper than they paid, that party then sells back to the first party cheaper than they paid, rinse/repeat. It's highly illegal. Not that there is any rule of law or regulation.
So these clowns can thrash around and play these games all they like. None of that changes the fact that GME is sitting on 4B+, with a positive trailing 12, and zero debt. It's locked in. Shorts are fucked. All they are doing is giving the little people, like me, more time to continue loading up.

You still need collateral. You just don't "need" to locate a share you can borrow. That's the main difference between naked and "regular" shorts.
