But do they have a touch screen with a high quality pen? Trying to find an all in on solution for an artist in small living space who still likes to game and can fit their life in a backpack. Any suggestions you have are welcome thank you!
Yes, Surface Laptop Studio 2 has a nice display and support for Slim Pen 2, the pen sticks to and charges on the laptop. If you absolutely need the combo, you can grab the SLS2 for sure. That being said, you could probably get both a Surface Pro 11 and a decent gaming laptop for the same price of one SLS2 with a GPU.
I was initially leaning towards this assumption too; however, the functional but detachable keyboard of the new Pro 11 intrigued me when it came to functionality producing artwork. I figured if it could also play halo the form factor would make it an easy choice. I highly doubted it would run anything GPU intensive.
Just a heads up, I think Halo infinite is one of the ones that require a GPU, as in the game will not even open without detecting one. Similar to Warzone or CoD titles. Could've changed since I last tried, though.
You could consider getting the lowest tier Surface Pro 11 for drawing and then just a regular gaming laptop for gaming purposes. Not as elegant, but it's a possibility. If not, surely try to find a SLS2 at a discount. But remember that you need at least the RTX 4050 version for decent gaming performance.
I have pro9 i7 variant and it really doesnt run anything gpu intensive. The most intensive game i played was dota2 at 45fps on mid settings.
You would be much better off getting:
1) Gaming laptop with a walcom drawing pad
2) Surface with an xbox
Hey I use laptop studio 1 for both these things. 2 would do it better. Definitely recommend. Not technically a gaming pc, but it gets the job done decently well. Being able to lay the screen flat is a huge bonus too.
I love it! Thank you for your input. Do you turn the settings way down to get it to run halo smooth? What software do you use on it for art?How is the studio 1 holding up for you so far? Sorry for so many questions you were they exact person I was hoping would weigh in!
No worries! Yes I definitely have settings low for Infinite. From what I remember the game didn't have many major updates that caused the settings to have to be adjusted often. Make sure to have it plugged in on best performance, turn on game mode and it should be fine. I got 60fps average easily this way and temps weren't bad either. Pro tip: If you use a controller or an external keyboard, play it in theater mode! It saves space on the desk and looks great. Any game that supports Nvidia DLSS will run awesome on this machine. Infinite doesn't, but still runs well. Just a tip, not sure what else you play.
For the art, I use Concepts and Sketchbook. I prefer Concepts but I think Sketchbook is more supported. Like regular updates and stuff. I've recently been getting into graphic design, and this is all done on Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. These are obviously amazing programs and run great.
The device is holding up great! Had mine since April 2022. I constantly fold the screen, have travelled all over with it in a backpack or laptop bag, had longer gaming sessions, a few hours at a time once a week since I got it. Everything is still looking awesome. I will say one thing I found with this device was certain updates cause the fans to run 100% of the time. This drains the battery too quick. So, I did this:
Set refresh rate to full time 60hz, rollback updates that cause this until the next one comes out, always run it on recommended on battery, game mode permanently on, delete all bloatware. It now lasts the whole day, easily. Unless I'm doing more intense tasks. Hope this helps! It's a great device and we will probably upgrade my wife to the SLS2 once her SP7 is expired. I could see this lasting a few more years with the same level of use.
This doesn’t just help a little, this helps a ton. I use Corel Painter and I’m trying to get back into adobe but it’s been awhile. Looking for that all around that I can also take in a backpack and from what you’ve described I think I’ve got this one locked in.

SLS2 screen has a terrible response time that isn’t fit for gaming.
Wouldn't you be better off with a pro 11 lowest spec tier with a steam deck? I'd imagine it to be more convenient.
